Thank you for passing by!
Hope you guys have a happy Valentine's!
I just coming back from the celebration of Spring Festival, so here is the update!
Leda, I actually imitate from the Da Vinci one , and I found that her hair is a bit like Leia's so I change the size to make it more likely.
OMG, this is soooo beautiful!! I love that "old Masters" look that you've definitely captured from Da Vinci: the lovely, subtle shading, beautiful attention to detail and that demure little half-smile she has on her face--all just lovely! A wonderful piece!
Thanks! Actually I doubt if Da Vinci use the same model for a long time because every women seems have the similar face in his artworks
Hi NLS! Excellent job on Leda. The facial shading and hair detail are outstanding!
I really liked that sepia Padme painting a page or so back, too.
Thank you for passing by£¡
So here are the new post:
I got this picture from a photo, I don't know what the exact name of it cause the name of it is in Chinese. I guess it may called 39 steps according the Chinese name. I found it really look like a handmaiden standing on a Naboo castle and I really love the mystic feeling of it!
This is by freehand:

Thank you againt for your patient!
Oh, wow! That's just beautiful, NL! I just sat and stared at it for the longest time, taking in all the amazing details--the castle structure is stunning, with the perfect arc to the stairs, and the same arc in the shading of the curving tower wall... Amazing! So much detail in the stonework--it almost looks like a filtered b/w photograph...flawless handling of the stark light here, too...just beautiful! And I think it looks a bit like Padme on the steps, although it could be a handmaiden, as well. A wonderful piece!
That's Amazing! and just Beautiful! I love it!
I'm honored. I usually draw things which makes me feel passion in it. I'm really impressed by the gothic castle,LOL
Thank you ,I'm very happy to see you dropping by!
I'm so sorry for my delay, actually I kept painting since last upload. However, life in high school is always sooooooo busy I barely have time to upload artworks.
OK, so here's my gouache paintings:
And my Prints of Exlibris
And two photos of my beloved cat, it's name is Mouse,Lol
Wow, this entire thread is breath taking, NL!
*likes the abrevation NL because it stands for the country were her beloved master & commander DarthUncle is from!*
I never worked with gouache before and try to avoid painting faces. This is why recently did an acryl painting where Anakin faces the lava lake on Mustafar instead (and gave it to Chilla as a present).
I envy you a bit for doing so brilliant faces, NL, but your Anakin is very haunting. I also like the other gouache picture plus your kitty.
Hi NL--and what a fabulous update!! The gouache paintings are just gorgeous--I agree with Azure that the Vader one is "haunting," but in a very good way! The prints are wonderful--were those lino cuts, or some other printing method? The details are awesome! And your cat is too cute (who doesn't love a kitty? )! Mouse! LOL! That's a unique name for a cat! Great, great work here--and good luck with all your school work!
Hi and welcome to my thread! Actually I haven't painted gouache for quite a long time and I have to analyse the color with PAINTER before I painted. Very glad you like them, thank you again. BTW, I really like your name, Azure is just the meaning of my real name in Chinese!
Hi there! The print is the picture printed from an engraved plate( I looked it up from different dictionaries and they call this kind of picture print. So I have to explain it in such awkward way,LOL) And thank you so much for your concern , my midterm grade is better than I expect
Great paintings, NLS! The Vader one depicts the show from the movie and captures its essence very well. I'm not sure is the other one Padmé? Regardless it is very nice as well.
ROFL @ your cat! I love cats, and I miss mine that live at my parent's house.
Wow, very beautiful! I especially like your drawings of Leia and the paintins of Padmé, very nice! Nice shading! You have make really good graphic lines.
Finaly I'm back! It's just a great pity that I don't have much time to see others' artwork. Anyway, I decided to post some drawing here first.
Thanks you, I think I'm not that good at gouache painting and I really appreciated your praise.
The girl is an unknow celebrity to me cuz my friend don't wanna tell me who she is.
thank you! Padme has been my muse since I was 9,LOL
Ankara Dancer:It's a sculpture I saw on a book about decoration.
Lightning: There's much rain in June this year and I heard that many places in my country have flood .In my city it had rained for over 2 weeks! And I took this video at night when it was about to rain.
And I also took some scenic on my balcony:
Oh, wow... The Ankara dancer is just gorgeous, NL!! Such a beautiful and delicate rendering, and all the detailing is amazing... Gorgeous shading... **sighs** Just gorgeous!! It looks like a book illustration about great sculptures of the world...amazing!
I still love that "futuristic" structure you can see from your roof--it's so beautiful! I'll make a suggestion that, for your low-light or night photographs, you try using a tripod with a remote shutter release for the camera: a firm steady stand will crisp up these images, and allow you to achieve a much better quality. Even just setting the camera on a hard surface would work--but a tripod is a great tool for low-light or night photography (learned this from my photographer husband! ). No matter how hard we try, when we handhold the camera, it's impossible to be as absolutely still as slow shutter speeds require. See if a tripod helps (some of the small ones can be had for relatively cheap!)!
I'm really HAPPY to hear you say so! Actually the sculpture is way more beautiful! I will find a chance to post it here.
And thanks for your suggestion, I suddenly remember that my Dad has a tripod for DV. I don't know if it can work.
*is also astonished!*
Wow, great up-dates and you are a master of many art materials, NL.
*looks over to the Chinese Ph. D. college of her beloved master & commander DarthUncle (short: DU)!*
I chose my name due to Anakin's choice of his 2nd ship in the Clone Wars and because of a song text from the French musical NOTRE DAME DE PARIS. I had NO clue about the Chinese meaning.
Anyway, you asked me a question about my latest up-date: how I did it? Well, inspiration and a lot of time on a train journey from Germany to the Netherlands.
Whoa! I love the Ankara Dancer! It's just beautiful! It would be great to see how the original sculpture looks. And those photos are great too. I think the three Before Storm-photos and the third moon photo are my favorites. Those have some really nice colors and light.
Thank you! I'm flattered!
P.S: I just find that you are from Germany! Oh my! I'm a goth and I really like Germany!
Thanks! I think that the before storm ones have strong clone war atmosphere so I just took it And here's the Ankara Dancer sculpture:
I have to admit that I still have a lot to learn,LOL. I think the sculpture is really a master piece!
And as an art lover, I think it's my responsibility to let more people know those great artworks. So I decided to post a flash called Cat here. This video is widely spread in my country.I remember that a newspaper once said it's a story that can make you cry for 8 times. The story is about a little cat tried to rescue his mother from ghostdom. So enjoy it:
Your English is great and your pictures/ paintings/ drawings/ work is even better!
So you are Chinese? That is nice. My boy-friend DarthUncle has some Asian colleges!
hm, yes, true, some vietnamese, some from India, and quite a few Chinese but they mostly do more experimental chemistry then I do, so no direct collegues. Today however I was busy preparing a computer for a new Ph.D. student who landed earlier today at the Airport and who will be with us for the next four years as a theoretical chemist, in the office next to me * Azure*
I really like your art NL! very nice eye for detail, and a way to make it come to live. Great work!
Welcome!DarthUncle And thank you for dropping in! I am very honored.
It's really a LONG time since my last update... The class-divided test just drove me crazy!
Anyway, here's the new post: Portrait of Padme Amidala in Ep3
And I took the picture of my bitter melon:
[image=http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m159/NLSkywalker/DSC03250.jpg]my black-painted nail isn't very fit for the lovely melon,LOL
