There will be no Clone Wars in Canada. None of the networks are playing it, and we can't watch it on cartoonnetwork.com either because they're blocking Canadian ISPs from viewing it. Only Hyperspace members can watch them.

What is this?!? There's people in Canada who want to watch them too!! This is too much. Thanks Cartoon Network. Thanks for making us canucks feel real great.

OK,now I am %?$&? convinced. We in Canada live in a communist country.

    I am so pissed off!

I have Hyperspace and will watch it over STARWARS.COM,... but hey
What's the matter with our country ?!?

Today, again, it sucks to be Canadian.

    What the heck?!

Not showing it on Canadian TV is one thing, but blocking it on the net is harsh. Why are they doing that? Does someone in Canada not want it seen or is the country being punished for something?

It is broadcast in Poland, Hungary, South Africa, probably in Bielarus and Easter Islands...

    Not in Canada...

    This is a joke.

I'll agree with you on that one. Surely SW.com can make some kind of allowance for Canadians other than "well, why not subscribe to Hyperspace? ;)"

Although while I'm sorely disappointed with them over this, I can't say I'm overly surprised. I'm only thankful I live in the UK. *sighs*

Show me a petition and I'll gladly sign it.

What a frickin joke. It's the same people doing it that are blocking new SW figures from coming here too, I'm convinced....

I don't know if I'd go so far as "Communist", LORD VADER, but you guys definitely live in a Socialist country. I wouldn't say Canuck, maybe pinko is more like it... But seriously, do you guys know the reasoning behind this? Is it some sort of copyright/trade mark issue? I don't see what the reasoning is. And to go so far as block Canadian ISP's?! WTF?! I feel for you guys, but I want to get to the bottom of this. I will gladly sign a petition also. To think that you have to shell out 20 clams to see Clone Wars, and just because you're Canadian. I have a fondness for Canada, for I lived right across the Detroit River from it a few years ago. I was 19 yrs old and all I had to do was pay a $2.00 toll for the tunnel to drink legally. Also, is it true what someone above me said about the action figures too?

Wait'll Gandy/Raven gets wind of this. He will not be a happy camper. And I was hoping to watch this when I was up there for Christmas. :( Will we see headlines about thousands of SW fans renting hotel rooms across the boarder to tape from The Cartoon Network? People smuggling videos across the border? [face_shocked]

No, this is not a communist or even socialist country. We're every bit as free market at the U.S. -- if any Americans would like to disagree, I've got some softwood lumber for you to purchase...

Anyway, the decision by Teletoon (who has the first option on Cartoon Network programming) not to air CW was a business decision (a poor one, IMHO). There is no government censorship involved... no one is 'banning' CW or anything like that. Of course, the government does provide regulatory protection for Teletoon by preventing CN from operating in Canada, but it's a remote and not proximate cause of this problem.

The restriction on the CN website are put up by CN (not anyone in Canada) to preserve their international market, a reasonable capitalist measure. If you want to complain, phone Teletoon or, even better, drop Teletoon from your cable package and let them know it.

Me? I'll be watching on Hyperspace :)

Anyone have any idea why they're blocking Canadian ISPs?

Yes. There once was a Canadian man who worked for Mr. George Lucas who insulted him. This certain Canadian fellow had always wanted to see the Clone Wars in a Star Wars film. Therefore, Mr. Lucas tries to avoid Canada when it comes to the Clone Wars. George told Cartoon Network to block. George also made a court order that the certain Canadian man be under servalence during the release of ATOC. He was not allowed to view the film in the theaters and cannot buy/rent ATOC. Also, he is constantly monitored by the police to ensure that he never sees the film.

Oh, wait..... you wanted the real reason...

    um.....

I dunno. Maybe Cartoon Network just doesn't like Canada. :p

Another amazingly useless post by the one and only...

The CRTC prevents the Cartoon Network from broadcasting in Canada, to prevent little channels like Teletoon from going bankrupt. So, in order to get Clone Wars, Teletoon has to carry it but they either won't or can't get the rights.

As for blocking Canadian access to the web site, I think it's the Cartoon Network purposely doing this due to the state of regulations.

I'm not watching it, it's not worth paying money for Hyperspace.

    Notice, he didn't say he, "I can't afford $20 a year."

He said that it's not worth the $20 a year for him. Big difference. :D

Like, I can afford to buy a Limited Edition Super Charged Karaoke Jukebox... But it's definitely not worth it for me. :p

EDIT: And for a spoiler-free like me, Hyperspace isn't worth the money either! :)

Personally, even if you are spoiler-free, to see hi-quality versions (with optional commentry ;) ), is definately worth the money.

Also, you aren't charged until 3 days into your subscription, so you could wait til the first 10 eps air, sign up, download them, then cancel your subscription.

    Total cost : $0.00

Yes, but that would be eeeeeeevil. :p

Anyways, I know, I was just makin' it clear that he most certainly wasn't THAT poor, and that he merely didn't want to purchase Hyperspace. :p
