I read somewhere that the final ending of the Empire Strikes Back ended with Vader telling Luke that Obi-Wan was his father in an early draft. Is there any truth to this.

And, how would it have impacted the saga if they'd gone through with it?

It was just to keep the truth a secret until the film was released. James Earl Jones was going to record dialogue anyway so Dave Prowse could say anything.
Mark Hamill knew the truth and was told to react to "I am your father."

Actually, in Mark Hamill's recent webchat he revealed that Prowse's line on the set was "No, Obi-wan killed your father." They gave that line to Prowse because they were worried about leaks to the press. Sure enough shortly thereafter the British tabloids ran a story saying that the shocking twist at the ending of the film was that Obi-Wan had actually killed Luke's father.

So, what did he say instead of "...and rule the galaxy together as father and son"?

He really could have been saying anything. Considering that you can't see Vader's mouth move it wasn't really important what he said on set. For all we know it could have been an alternate take of one of his other lines with the proper line dubbed over.

Hmmm....it's weird, but looking at Ep.3 spoilers so far, Obi Wan DID kill his father!

From a certain point of view. :p

I still prefer the Simpsons version of the scene: Chewbacca is Luke's father!

As if Luke didn't have enough hair problems already ;)

prowse said obi-wan killed your father so that fan spies wouldn't pick up the huge suprise that was intended.

Well, I heard that it was changed for the shoot because Prowse had already blabbed to the press before, and Lucas didn't want him doing it again. Hence, he blabbed a red-herring. ;)

Thinking the scene through it barely makes any sense without the father thing. Pretty weird.
"Obi-Wan killed your father, so join me to rule the galaxy and overthrow the Emperor." Huh?

It's been said that Prowse was very angry when he found out the line had been switched. He only discovered this when watching ESB in the theatre.

    Prowse is an idiot.

Lol. I like his latest outburst, stating that the fans will boycot Episode III if he does'nt get to play Vader. He's out of it for a little while and he get's delusions of grandeur.

He was on the radio here a while back as a guest, but I didn't get to hear what he had to say. Stupid school. :p

*shrugs* well he is, listen at the things he has to say. And he's not Darth Vader. The voice defines Vader; it's not Prowse's voice.

Yep, and I also think Sebastian Shaw is a lot more Vader than Prowse.

I realize that wearing the Vader suite for hours of filming would be a challenge, and I commend Prowse for doing it, but I have little respect for the man:

James Earl Jones is recognized as the voice of Vader and Bob Anderson did most of the fight scenes in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

I remember that whole thing about fans boycotting Episode III. The man is quite full of himself. Take anybody with a similar body structure and height, put them in that suite, and they'd give a performance that's no better or no worse than Prowse. He needs to get a grip ;)

As I've said before, the "David Prowse IS Darth Vader" line that Prowse writes on all his autographs are annonying. I know Vader was a culmination of many actors, but I think of James Earl Jones as Darth Vader (that voice goes down in cinema history).
