What if Vader had uttered those lines in ESB?

Then the prequels would have been vastly different, I think.

They might even have been better, because at least we wouldn't have to suffer through those awful romance scenes.

ROTJ would have been vastly different. It may have driven Luke to be a Sith.

What if Vader said, "No, Obi-Wan is your father."

Then Luke would have said, "So then you did kill him…"

Yeah I think that was what Christopher Paolini did in his inheretence Cycle (you know that SW rip-off in the world of Lord of the Rings) he made Brom (the Obi-Wan character) Eragon's father.

I think is interesting at first. But then Luke should realize two things:

Since Vader did kill Obi-Wan, then he did kill his father but also...

Luke should have realized what a jerk his father was. Now that would have driven Luke to the Dark Side.

Luke would have certainly jumped and probably not have survived the fall. If he did survive, he would have been filled with hate and bent on revenge, just where Uncle Palpy would have wanted him.

From a certain, twisted, point of view it could be true. Obi-Wan had betrayed Anakin's trust, if you will, in RotS by asking him to commit treason. Then on Mustafar Obi-Wan maimed Anakin, watched Anakin burn and then left Anakin to die. If you listen to what Obi-Wan says he believes that Anakin is no longer there since he uses past tense: were and loved are the examples that stand out the best to me.

So if Vader had said that it would have be a very twisted truth from a certain POV.

To be fair, Anakin betrayed Obi-wan's trust first by not telling him about the sandpeople massacre, his marriage to Padme, nor her pregnancy. Anakin even went off the deep end by siding with PalpSidious and helping him kill all the Jedi including Obi-wan which led to Anakin being maimed and burned. Still, I agree that if Vader had said Obi-wan did kill Luke's father, it would still be technically true.

Well in a way, this is true, metaphorically. Obi-Wan felt that once Anakin became Vader, he died, and he felt it was his fault for the most part that it did happen, so I suppose in a way, he believes he's responsible for Anakin's "death"

Either way, I'm more satisfied with how it turned out, but I must admit, that would have been one interesting plot twist, and I would really love to see an alternate Episode VI where that was the actual case...
