I'm looking forward to meeting you all at the Midwest meeting in June!

NAME(S): Sharon S.
AGE/BIRTHDATE: 41, 11/29/64
LOCATION(S): Columbia, MO
OCCUPATION/DRUDGERY: Pharmaceutical chemist at a contract lab.
FAMILY/PETS: Single by choice; have three wonderful dogs that compete in a total of 10 sports. We compete in obedience, agility, sheep herding, rally, competitive weight pull, tracking and others. The two oldest dogs have worked as models for Purina and Hallmark cards. The dogs are: Piper, Jack Russell Terrier, age 11; Savvy, Border Collie, age 4; and Repo, Border Collie, age 12 mos.
SW FAN SINCE: 1977, when I got a paper route so I could see Episode IV in theaters 11 times. However, knowing not a single other Star Wars fan (and being unaware Star Wars fandom existed until a few days ago), I had gradually lost interest and never even bothered to see Episode III at the theater. A few weeks ago, I suddenly became obsessed with wanting to watch all the DVDs in order, so rented them and watched each film twice, along with all associated documentary stuff. (Yeah, I don't even own them... but now I'm waiting for the 2007 boxed set to come out).
HOW I INDULGE MY SW OBSESSION: So far, just renting the DVDs and getting ready to attend the Midwest meeting (I'm trying to put together a jedi costume... FAST!). However, I did download the Aurebesh font on my computer and I'm registering for the Midwest meeting in June... so that's a start! I'm looking forward to meeting other people that have even SEEN the movies--even that sounds exotic to me at this point.
OTHER SCI-FI INTERESTS: I haven't read ANY fiction (except Harry Potter) in years, but I just bought the first book in the Thrawn Trilogy to see how I like the EU.
OTHER OTHER INTERESTS: I speak several languages, and to keep fluent, I try to arrange my life so I can take off a couple of months every few years and go live someplace like Rio de Janeiro or Costa Rica. I used to compete in Chinese wushu--the same martial art practiced by Ray Park/Darth Maul. Unlike Ray Park, I actually broke my foot in half doing a butterfly kick (the ariel roll in the air) seen in Episode I. Of course I live-breath-eat-sleep competitive dog sports. The dog sports lead to lots of other hobbies: carpentry so I could build regulation agility equipment, biking and hiking to get us in shape for other sports, farming to learn more about livestock and becoming better at herding. I also enjoy ballroom and salsa dancing. Though I would definitely be considered a fan with a "small f," I also love the Indiana Jones trilogy and Sherlock Holmes.
MUSICAL TASTES: World music, salsa/merengue, and parody music (Weird Al Yankovic, Tom Lehrer, etc.)
