The X-Mas X-Over Challenge

Twas the month before Christmas
And all over the JC
The holidays post were flourishing
To a tolerable degree.

The new fan fic boards had been hung
Since July with great care
In hopes that new fiction
Would soon be there.

The holiday banners would soon
Go up on the boards
And, as per usual, the bashers
Would go to Comms in great hoards.

The three NSW mods,
Jade, Nat, and I,
Devised up a challenge
With the holidays so nigh.

"A crossover! A crossover!"
Nat did declare.
"A holiday crossover
For our Non Star Wars lair!"

"A crossover with what?"
Asked Jade with disagree.
"There's too many holidays
To make this challenge PC."

"A crossover with anything,"
Miana thought up quite quick.
"As long as it's a holiday;
That will do the trick."

So the mods made the plans
And with them took great care
And set out the rules
For the writers to prepare.

A crossover written;
The fandoms number two.
But, special instructions,
The writers must do.

Both shall have no Star Wars;
(We're NSWFF, you know)
The limit is more than 2000 words
But no more than 10000 you can go.

There's one final limit
We're putting with reason:
One fandom must have something
To do with the Holiday Season;

Christmas or Kwanza
Or St. Nicholas Eve
Chanukah or Ganna
Or whatever you believe.

From Santa to Hotei-osho
And Dun Che Lao Ren
From Krampus to Christkind
And others of that vein.

One month you have,
Till the clocks say "09"
To write this fun story
And let your work shine!

A judging there will be
And we might hand out a prize
We of course won't tell you what;
It would ruin the surprise.

"So that's all there is to it,"
The mods said with a smirk.
"So have a Happy Holidays
And get thee to work!"

Glad to know that our multi-talented mods are brilliant poets as well. :p

I'm excited for this challenge! I love crossovers and I so totally know which fandoms I'm using... [face_whistling]

Oh... that sound like a lot of fun!
I have no idea what fandoms I want to use. I've just added two new ones to my ever growing list... maybe I can do those two!

Wait, Brothers & Sisters with True Blood... hmmm, maybe not! :p

*puts on thinking cap*

Loved the poem!! :D

Some clarification is needed.

never mind, reading the whole poem would have helped.

Who is Dun Che Lao Ren? Old Man of the Dun Che?
I get the Old Man, but Dun Che... Is that like
Dun1 stooping? a ton?
Dun2 no such word.
Dun3 no such word
Dun4 dull (not sharp)?

Che1 car?
Che2 ???
che3 pull?
che4 entire? wholly?

or is Dun Che a location? which province? Can you show me a map?

Santa Claus == Sheng Dan Lao Ren... (Old Man of the Holy Birth) Did you mean that?

I went off various "How Christmas is celebrated around the world" websites, and they said "Dun Che Lao Ren" what what they called Santa Claus in China. And the internet's always right, you know. ;)

And remember guys, one of the fandoms HAS to be a Holiday fandom! [face_devil]

I was wondering about that. What constitutes a holiday fandom? Since Santa Claus has appeared in so many other fandoms, I wouldn't count him as one unto himself, but how central must the holiday have been to the other fandom for it to count? If I use the "It had a Christmas episode" excuse, do I have to include elements that were specific to that episode itself?

Ahh... I missed that some how. 8-} I guess I need to read more carefully! Thanks for pointing that out Miana!
This puts a whole new spin on things. Hmm... [face_thinking]

Ones I can think of off the top of my head:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Love Actually
The Santa Clause
Rudolph and Friends
Elf
etc etc etc...

Though I'm sure we'll be lenient for fandoms that have a lot of Christmas things (i.e. Mr. Hanky in South Park and such). ;)

And there's no one saying you can't write Christmas vigs anyways! :D

Except for Love Actually, those first ones were all fandoms I thought of right away; my question was more about the second type, like if, to use your example, South Park would count if, say, I didn't include Mr. Hankey. [face_mischief] Nah, that would probably be cheating.

The 2000-word minimum makes my evil side want to use Sapphire and Steel as one of my fandoms. [face_devil] [Of course, then I'd have to go back and watch some more.]

Oh I love this idea! Great poem, Miana!

I don't think I've ever actually written a crossover before. [face_thinking] Wait there was that very convuluted story that I wrote when I was seven . . . Anyways, I have a few ideas floating around, all too vague right now, but I just might write one of them.

I would love to see someone use a fandom from a cheesy Lifetime holiday movie. Because it would save me the trouble of having to watch them, of course - not because I like them. No. Never. And it's not like you'll have difficulty finding one - "Falalala Lifetime" programming. Not that I watch Lifetime. No. Never.

(methinks I doth protest too much)

Don't forget about holiday specials of your favorite shows! "Merry Christmas Drake & Josh" is a goldmine for fanfic. :D

Christmas books?

Christmas (fairy) tales?

Are they all right too?

I'm afraid we always watch Willow with Christmas (and now also Lord of the Rings) and I guess that doesn't really count :(
