November Meeting held at Carnegie Science Center. Lots of folks were a little late because of the unexpected presence of a football game in Heinz Stadium. Before (and during) the meeting there was lots of chatting about general geek topics, such as comics and cons. Steel City Con. There had been some discussion about getting a dealer table, but after Michele and Chris did the math, they worked out that the cost would be way higher than any potential profit. We?ll just go and enjoy the con, meeting at 11 AM on Saturday, at the main enterance. Lifeday celebration will be on January 9, 2010. More details to follow. Bone Marrow Donations and Blood drive. Neil?s friend has leukemia and needs a bone marrow match. Neil is trying to put together a blood drive which would also allow a sample to be taken to test for bone marrow donation matches. The Star Wars Association of Pittsburgh has changed its name to the Science Fiction Alliance of Pittsburgh. This is to reflect the fact that the interests of our members includes many other fandoms beyond Star Wars. Paul told about a vacuum form he?s building to make trooper armor. Steel City Jedi is the newly formed local branch of the Pennsylvania Jedi, a dueling group. Neil is SFAP?s contact with the group. There was much interest in being part of this. Neil will update group. Pittsburgh Comicon is in April. We will again be doing panels, a table, kids? room, and a charity fundraiser. More info as we get closer to April. After the meeting we played in the Science Center, enjoying the great robot exhibit, watching the science geeks make fireballs, and viewing an Imax film.
