correct me if im wrong but han solo saves luke in the death star trench (ANH) , then on hoth (ESB) and remarks "thats two you owe me"

After luke then saves han from jabba the hutt he claims he now owes luke one!!!

can mr solo not count???

What he means is that Han saved Luke twice and Luke saved Han once, so the line should've been "Now you you only owe me one. If you don't pay up I'm gonna take your woman, Leia."

 

Han in ESB:

"That's two you owe me, junior."

In ROTJ, Han was acknowledging to Luke that after his chiding the younger man about how he's saved his life twice, he now owes Luke. It seems to be a running joke between the two of them.

Han did it for selfish reasons where as luke did it because they were friends.

 

well luke is like his friend so he feels the need to repay what luke has done for him and now he's less selfish cause after what everyone went through for his @$$ to get him out of jabba's palace

 

Han saved Luke at DS1
Han saved Luke on Hoth

Luke saved Han on Tatooine
Luke saved Han from Ewoks (as mentioned above)
Luke saved Han (and universe) by confronting Vader

Now Han owes Luke one. But how Han knew that ahead of time remains a mystery.

 

Maybe Han just got a very short memory and forgot that he had saved Luke twice. Or perhaps he wants to be polite instead of saying: "Well, now you only have to save me one more time and then we're even."

 

So does han think Luke saved him 3 types at that point? Somethings not right with that guy.

 

Or maybe Han is being a smart businessman. Luke still owes him two but Han owes him one. He's just not debiting the one save from Lukes tab.

 

At that rate they'll never get out of the hole.

 

Because "Now I owe you one" sounds cooler then something like "Now you only have to save me one more time and then we are even since I did save you twice before the first time being when....bla bla bla"

I gotta admit, the geek in me has always been bothered by this line because it just doesn't add up

 

Han owes him for:

(a) Saving him
(b) Not running off with the Falcon
(c) Not running off with the Falcon and Leia

 

Honestly, it bothers me too. I tried for the longest time to find some other occasion when Luke had saved Han's life. The only answer I could come up with was that if he did, it must have happened off screen. I seriously have to learn how to just let some things go...

 

All he says is "now I owe you one." Why is there a problem is with that. Hes not subtracting it from the amount that Luke owes him; I think its a bit simpler. Luke saved his life, so Han says "i owe you one." I don't see what the big deal is, and it sounds cool too...
