In other words, almost no one will get to see the IMAX sequences as shot. That's a shame, but don't let it interfere with the process of creating the right psychological conditions for truly enjoying the movie.

That's a stance more easily admired than replicated. Most people don't have your extraordinary discipline.

I don't think it's discipline. I'm simply not interested in what critics think. If I was interested in what critics thought I'm sure I'd be reading them.

My first viewing will be 2D as well, simply for the fact that I saw all 6 previous movies and The Clone Wars in 2D, so want to keep the tradition.

That's not to say I don't have 3D tickets later on that weekend, but for my first experience of it, I want to experience it like I did all the others.

I agree I think it's important to build yourself a perfect nest made of the bits and pieces of your personal Star Wars nostalgia that's most comfortable to you. Then watch TFA while sitting in your very comfortable nest. If there's an egg in this metaphor, it's your expectations for TFA. You laid this egg. And you want to maximize the conditions for all this time you've been sitting on that egg, so that it hatches with the chick in good health.

I've never seen an analogy collapse like that. I'm embarrassed. Worst metaphor ever.

I'm making a playlist of '80s songs to listen to on the way to the theatre. And not just any '80s songs: songs that were on the charts in December '83 when ROTJ was in theatres here. That's how hardcore I am when it comes to nostalgia.

    totally stealing this idea.

Return of the Jedi and Synchronicity by the Police are released only days apart. "Every Breath You Take" looks like fine anthem for Kylo Ren. King of Pain.

From the warning at the top of the forum:
PT vs. OT vs. ST (in any combination) debates are not allowed in the New Movies forums. Discussions that descend into OT/PT/ST bashing/gushing will be subject to Mod action.

I agree. I don't care what some reviewer thinks. I'll be the judge of TFA.

That sequence in IMAX will be jaw-dropping.

If the reviews are good I'll be able to skim and skip this place with ease in the final run up. No problem. If the reviews are negative, game over. I'll be reading every damn line trying to steel myself.

I do care what A.O. Scott thinks. He's a fellow time traveler from boyhood in 1977. All other critics can get stuffed as far as I'm concerned.

But your concerns can and should be different.

hmmm...the St. Louis and Indianapolis IMAX locations are about equidistant for me...

I will avoid long form reviews, I will just want a general consensus if it's great, good or crap. my feeling is the reviews will be gushing but perhaps not Fury Road gushing with some breaking from the pack, I don't want anything spoiled or confirmed. I have read the synopsis and my feeling is I wish i had not, for Rogue One, I will see you all in the Non-spoilers forum.

I have read the synopsis, and I can't remember a thing about it. In one eye. Out the other. Nothing really stuck other than names.

I never understood attacking people for negative reviews when the people doing the attacking haven't seen the film themselves.

Also, I bet we'll hear from Kevin Smith or Edgar Wright or Simon Pegg before a week from release. JJ will show his friends and word will get out, unless it's bad.

Reviewers are a shifty bunch. They are naturally critical because they want it to seem like they have a critical eye. Stay away from reviews, my friends.

I will be similar. Let my eyes blur and only read the first few sentences, then look at the number at the end. Did it score a 9? Or a 4? Or perhaps even worse, a 7?

I want the reassurance that it is pretty good. I fear Matrix Reloaded, where I was so amped and enthusiastic, and had seen alot of the prerelease images... and then meh.

It took a long time for some people to admit how bad Matrix Reloaded was. There are a few holdouts to this very day.
