Here's another paroday song from the Usenet Newsgroups ...
    TRADE ROUTE #5
Lou Bega and the Max Rebo Band
    (by Darth Maus)

    'Ar-too, three four five
    Everybody on the Death Star
    Go on just fire

    On the,
    Fourth moon around the corner
The boys say they want some blue milk
    but I really don't want-nah

Glitterstim like I had last week
It must stay dark cause spice's not cheap
I like Bakura, Thyferra, Toola and Csilla
    And as I continue
    You know they gettin' Snee-ve

    So what can I do
    I'm really no humanoid
To me Kessel Run is just like a sport
    Anything that flies
    Is all good
Let me jump in and swing in
    The Falcon

A little bit of Tatooine in my life
A little bit Eriadu by my side
A little bit of Csilla's all I need
A little bit of Telos what I see
A little bit of Toola in the sun
A little bit of M'Haeli all night long
A little bit of Dantooine here I am
A little bit of Roon makes me your man

    Trade Route no. 5!

    OOAAH!

    Pitch up and down
    And turn the ship around
    Cover-your-ears to from the sound
Land the ship on the ground
    Take one break left
    Shoot one TIE right
    One on your rear
    And one on your side
    Press 'fire' once
    And press 'fire' twice
And if it looks like this
    You will get away alive

A little bit of Tatooine in my life
A little bit Eriadu by my side
A little bit of Csilla's all I need
A little bit of Telos what I see
A little bit of Toola in the sun
A little bit of M'Haeli all night long
A little bit of Dantooine here I am
A little bit of Roon makes me your man

    The Falcon (shhhhh)
    The Falcon! (shooooo)

    Trade Route no. 5!

    Hoo hoo hooo

A little bit of Tatooine in my life
A little bit Eriadu by my side
A little bit of Csilla's all I need
A little bit of Telos what I see
A little bit of Toola in the sun
A little bit of M'Haeli all night long
A little bit of Dantooine here I am
A little bit of Roon makes me your man

    I do
    All to
Fall in love with a princess like you
    Cause you must run
    And you must hide
You and me gonna touch the sky

    Trade Route no. 5!

    AAAAHA!'

Again, I've no idea if it tracks properly. :)

Michel Jackson and the Max Rebo Band

    by Jedi Apprentice

    Your cut is fine
    and your technique's right
    I see you've trained,
    know how to fight
    You've learned the Force
    since last we met
    but kid, you're not
    a Jedi yet.
    Come on,

    Come on,
    Lay it on me
    All right..

    I'm telling you
    gotta come with me
    I thought it was
    "all too easy".
    You fought me well
    but now you're beat
    It doesn't have
    to be defeat

We can both destroy the Emp'ror
He has seen it can be done,
Then we'll rule the place together
    As Skywalker and Son!

Because I'm Dad! I'm Dad, come on
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
You know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, you know it.
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Y'know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, c'mon, y'know
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
You can join me, Luke, or perish right now
Let me tell you once again:
    Who's Dad?

    Han gave a shout
    you came along
    Stand by my side,
    where you belong!
    You just don't know,
    you need insight-
    how powerful
    is the Dark Side!
    You're just a kid
    You're not a man
    It's obvious
    You need a hand

    You don't realise your importance
cause your Dad's the chosen one
And what's running through your veins is
    my midichlorians,

Because I'm Dad! I'm Dad, come on
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
You know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, you know it.
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Y'know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, c'mon, y'know
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
I was Anakin, I'm bad and I'm proud
Let me tell you once again
    Who's Dad?

    (solo: Vader dances - 4th Yavin moon-walk)

Oh, and by the way- you're grounded
Son, look me in the face
    And you're getting no allowance
    You'd better change your ways,

Because I'm Dad! I'm Dad, come on
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
You know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, you know it.
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Y'know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, y'know it, y'know
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Woo! Woo! Woo!

Yes I'm your Dad, I'm Dad, come on
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
You know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, you know it.
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Y'know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, c'mon, y'know
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Woo! Woo! Woo!

Luke I'm your Dad, I'm Dad, come on
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
You know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, you know it.
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Y'know I'm Dad, I'm Dad, y'know it, y'know
    (Dad, Dad, really really Dad)
    Woo! Woo! Woo!

Because I'm Dad, I'm Dad, come on

OK ... so how about no more awful Star Wars parody songs ...

Speaking of music ... anyone see the Michael Jackson interview last night? That guy is _truely_ odd ... I don't believe for a second that he is a child molestor, but he certainly seems to think his actions are pretty normal, despite the general public thinking the opposite.

I watched the MJ interview with my mother, who was about my age when Jackson was still a black kid with an afro who busted disco moves with his brothers.

She was quite disturbed to think the pale, mannequin-esque ghost of a man on the box last night was the same person. I'm finding myself agreeing. While I believe the man is talented and a timeless pop icon, it's obvious that he's so detached from reality, he almost no longer has a place in modern society.

I'd like to believe he didn't abuse any kids, based on my own childhood admiration for him and the experiences he had with parental abuse from his father but admitting to sharing beds with kids at the age of fourty-four isn't exactly doing him any favours.

Saddly, he only seems to grab the spotlight now for the wrong reasons. I guess he was at his best in his late teens/early twenties - back in the classic late 70's and early 80's. Off The Wall and Thriller are his two best works and despite his modern antics, I will always respect his work from that era.

Oh yeah, I'm guessing we've finally seen the last of the SW parodies? Please? This thread really needs to get back on track to how it was when Lawrence first had the epiphany to start it.

I think the thing with Michael Jackson is that he really doesn't see that the rest of the world perceives him as being odd. But his entire life has been lived in the spotlight, and he was robbed of a childhood by his father, and now he has the money to buy one for himself. Just seeing him shopping, he was like a 10 year old child. Flitting from one thing to another with no real focus ... he almost seemed like he had ADHD.

But then, if I was worth a few billion, I wonder if I'd be any different? People that wealthy tend to be surrounded by sycophants who just tell them what they want to hear. I guess if I was robbed of a childhood, and was emotionally stunted as a result, and had the money to live and look how I wantd, I probably would to some extent or other.

Perhaps, but I can think of better SW related things to do rather than make bad parodies out of already bad songs. I doubt I'm alone in that school of thought.

Nick Cave always epitomised how the devil might appear if he was a man, IMO. Brilliant voice though.

    :D

Love the song he did with Kylie Minogue a few years back. Pity I can't stand her now. She was so much better in her PJ Harvey/indie phase.

The Breeders gig is on tonight, off to that. should be rather good.

Heard the latest from former Smashing Pumpking frontman, Billy Corgan. His new band, Zwan just realeased their album, Mary Star of the Sea.

I had an advanced copy and it's mostly just rehashed SP with a heavy overtone of radio-friendly. Like Audioslave before them, bands made born from the ashes of successful bands are often lacking in their sophmore efforts.

The Counting Crows are also playing March 8th. I'd be hideously keen to go if the tickets weren't a whopping $85. It's their first NZ tour and it's just a little to steep for me.

Wish their latest track Big Yellow Taxi wasn't such so damn infectiously good pop-rock. I'm gonna kick myself for not seeing despite th price tag.

Also, Jack Johnson and Massive Attack are coming here in the next month or two.

Reasonably good gigs so far this quarter.

    > Nick Cave always epitomised how the devil might appear if he was a man

Interesting, because his most recent albums rival Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan for their numerous Biblical illusions. "The Boatman's Call" could almost be classified as a gospel album, esp. "There Is A Kingdom".

But, yeah, know what you mean ...

I think he's one of the new people who has been "at it" for more than 20 years and is still turning out class-A material, and has not just become a sad parody of himself. (this means you, Rolling Stones!)

I'd be interested in hearing the Zwan album ... I always like The Smashing Pumpkins' singles, and thought Billy Corgan wrote great pop songs, but found their albums a bit overwrought and pretentious. Is the Zwan stuff more poppy?

I'll be at The Breeders tonight ... it was a free Breeders ticket, or $95 to see Bob Dylan. I've seen Dylan twice before though, so I thought Id
    a) save my money, and
    b) be there to cheer for The Brunettes ...

Zwan is okay - i felt it was a poor Pumpkins copy (Jimmy Chamberlain is the drummer ironically) but it's by no means bad. it's probably worth listening to if you liked SP as a singles band much the same way I did.

My friend manages a Sounds store on the North Shore so I pretty much use it like a library for CD's these days.

Awesome, so we might meet up. That could be cool and yet another FF even that has the potential to succeed.
