Welcome to the Recruiting Thread for the ninth Sleepy game. Since September 2003, there have been eight Sleepies, seven of them in the YJCC and one in Census + Games. In every single game, there has been a pool of players ranging from 20 to 50, and just one winner, and oppositely, the mysterious Murderer! This is the first time a Sleepy will be here in the Star Wars Community forum, as hosted by Coruscant, creator of the series.

    Intro and Pre-Game Process

Tailor themed for the forum, players of the Ghost Ship Executor will choose Star Wars characters from all across the canon and the game will be set in the Star Wars universe, in the very same super Star Destroyer Executor that supposedly crashed into the second Death Star. Your characters will find themselves on board the ill-fated Executor, a contained environment within another contained environment- a seductive, fly-trap nebula that reputedly cannot be escaped.

You can choose any character from the Star Wars canon, as long as somebody else hasn't already claimed it. You may not play as a character of Fan Fiction origins. Your character does not have to be alive BYS to be eligible.

Considered we have enough players, the game will begin sometime between Easter (March 23rd) and early-to-mid April. We're aiming for a pool of about 30 to 40 players. But, hey, surprise us! Let's get 50 or the as-of-yet unreached 60!

After we have closed the recruiting process, your host, Coruscant, will proceed to handpick GSE's (Ghost Ship Executor) Murderer. Only Cor and the co-hosts will know the identity of the Murderer. Don't bother asking them who the Murderer is, because they won't tell you. [face_tongue]

You already know the scheduled window for when the game will begin, but as recruitment comes to closing, an exact, pre-determined start date will be chosen on the basis of what is most convenient and accessible to the players.

The moment the game thread is posted, that's the very last cut-off. After that point, you can't quit the game without penalty. So if you get second thoughts, have them before the start date. You'll know what the start date is at least a week ahead of time.

Between the beginning of recruitment and the game, you are totally free to socialize with fellow players. There's no restrictions about that. Many times in the past, recruitment threads for Sleepy games have turned into unofficial social threads. There's nothing wrong with that, either. Just don't a.) spam and b.) invite or talk to friends who are posting in the thread yet have not joined the game. Talk to them elsewhere. [face_tongue]

    The Game

When the game begins, there will be a period of about an hour or two when your characters have a little "get-to-know-each-other" time. Then the Host will present you with your first Challenge. Technically, you don't have to participate in challenges but it is strongly encouraged, especially since by sometimes completing but in most cases winning challenges, you win helpful rewards, like temporary immunity from murder. Some of the more major challenges are intertwined with the central storyline of the game. As such, these challenges will be scheduled when there's guaranteed to be a lot of players online.

At the end of the first or second day, there will be the first Murder Post of GSE. Before every Murder Post, the Murderer chooses his or her victim, as well as a scene of crime, and a method of death. This information is included in the Murder Posts. For the more involved and major players, the Host will also write up a murder narrative.

An MP (murder post) may contain one or both of the following items: a clue(s) and/or a red herring(s). It's the Host and Co-Host's job to drop clues. It's the Murderer's job to mirror that

    Hello, guys! :D

Great so far, some very good character choices. Alas, of course, Vader had to be taken.

Zedd, TLI... any questions? Just churn 'em out, if you have to.

Just a quick one, seeing as though this is my first Sleepy Game, might I ask how active one must be? I mean I can check at least a few times per day if need be, but I can't monitor the game religiously (work/school and the like)

Just one for now. What's the policy on movement and number of actions per post? Say, if I wanted to go from the bridge to the docking bay, would that just be traversed in one post or many small ones?

    Great questions!

A few times per day is plenty enough, as players throughout Sleepy Tower (the largest game in recent memory) proved. Many other players would undoubtedly be more active and have much more to present, quantitatively. But like posting, the golden standard is quality, not quantity. You will want to be very active in the thread on the first day or two, and we're going to find a day that will facilitate maximal activity from the greatest number of players. After the start, you'll find a balance that satisfies your posting habits and the priorities of RL, as many quality players in Sleepy Tower were able to do. If you're going to check in a few times a day, but those times will be few and far between, then make sure your IC posts are more broad and keep your character up with the rest of the action. If you're going to check in at one time a day, but be on for a long time during that one period, then your IC posts should reflect that accordingly by being more interactive and short. And, of course, I will be providing constant updates and summaries so if you're in a tight spot but want to participate, you don't have to read the previous posts/pages since the last time you were around. I will mark where these special posts are in my signature.

There's really no policy there. Just keep it natural, really. Typically, in challenges when you have plenty of time, you and other players will spend more time moving about from place to place, but sometimes time may be a little short. GSE will have the most elaborate challenges yet. In the past, players had a lot of freedom concerning time and movement and space, but with Executor, I'll be choreographing where players should be if they want to complete and win the challenge in time.

Hm, interesting spin on things. I've got a question-- with players being Jedi and the like this time around, how would the Force and respective strengths/weaknesses of the characters come into play?

Oooh, great, great question! I had been thinking about that last week, too. I mean, I assume you're talking about relationships between Force characters and non-Force characters?

Pretty much, it ain't an even playing field. It's not like when the characters wake up mysteriously onboard the GSE (just to speak, there's a more elaborate explanation that will be unveiled throughout the course of the game), every character will magically have Force powers. This is the way it was in Sleepy Tower and there were no problems at all. When it comes down to it, it's up to the smarts and social skills of both player and his/her character to find their way in the game.

As for the character that's the Murderer, that'll require some liberties if the choice is a non-Force user and there will be an explanation for that, too, by the end of the game.

Welcome all. This is my first Sleepy Game I've ever dealt with, and I happen to be the co-host, so this should be fun. Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. Introduce myself and all that jazz. If you have any questions, I guess I'll try to answer them, but you'd be better off runnning to Coruscant. :p

Hmmm, alright. And so when it comes to challenges and such, Force powers will be advantageous or no? Obviously (unless you're the Murderer and then only because of that) you can't like elminate another player with the Force, so aside from simple actions such as moving objects, etc. I'm assuming that's the only other real way it could affect gameplay...

I have a quick question (don't hire an angry mob to beat me if this sounds dumb). Is the posting for this RP more or less the same as for other RPGs? Or is there a special format for posting? I'm pretty sure it'd be more or less the same, but I just wanted to make sure before joining and potentially getting murdered on the first Murder Post for being an ignoramus.

Just like RPs. :) IC, OOC, TAGging, etc... all of that is used in the Sleepy games. :) The difference is, however, that there are stakes. Players are systematically eliminated as well as banned for losing, unlike a normal RPG. Otherwise, post just like you would in RPF.
