It was a promo pic for the film thats all.

 

I say, why even take a promo pic that doesnt even illustrate whats in the film?

Why not take a pic of Qui-Gon instead of Obi?

 

I think I read something years ago which said the fight on tatooine was much longer than the one on film and that both Obi and Quigon fought maul for a bit before escaping.

 

I think Qui Gon should have been killed in the desert battle. Then you have Young Anakin essentially dropped in the lap of Obi Wan

 

Anakiw WAS dropped into the lap of Obi-wan.

 

heeeey!!! i remember that pic! that was in the special Vanity Fair 6 years back (dang, its been that long?). the caption of that picture is, ironically, something like "George promises three lightsaber fights in the first movie alone."

 

What in Corellian Hell fighting stance is Obi-Wan using anyway?

You guys must have not seen the REAL Episode I. Just the crappy version the show in most places. Bummer for you...

 

It's an awesome pic, I wish that was in the actual movie. 'Course, I wish lots of things was in the actual movie, but that's a separate discussion.

Anyway, there has to be like two or three threads already about this Very popular pic, considering it's not an image in the movie!

I like that idea, reminds me of when Obi Wan dies in A New Hope, and Luke has to deal with it, with a little help from Leia.

This pic was published back when Lucasfilm was extremely anti-spoilers, to put it lightly. They didn't want ANY actual plot details leaked before the movie came out, no matter how minor. Back then they probably thought showing Qui-Gon vs. Maul on Tatooine would be too spoily, but showing Obi vs. Maul wasn't, since it doesn't even happen in the movie.
