I don't know what was funnier - the idea of mud-wrestling or the idea that it was what all the initiates aspired to do with their lives.

Jennifer_Lyn - Nice use of the nicknames. I guess Obi-Wan just can't get away from Anakin. :p

Jedikma - You know what I thought about this. I am still expecting a continuation on this with a complete back story. [face_mischief]

?With Obi-Wan all you had to do was ask. He is fiercely loyal to anyone he chooses to love.? - [face_love]

    jedipati - yikes!

K_D - I loved this casual conversation Mace and Obi-Wan were having while wrestling. What's up with the holovid though?

Anakin smiled. ?This way, you?re not weak, and I?m not a slave.? The boy (Chosen One) said.

    Ooh.

    Great work. :D

    Yodan: Nice imagery! [face_love]

Jennifer_Lyn: Seems even the Jedi can?t take his fate from him. ;) I liked the interaction between he and Anakin at the end. They both found what they felt had been missing. :)

Jedikma: Xanatos and Obi-Wan! [face_love] Need I say more? Loved the banter between them and poor Xan, can?t seem to keep a wife. I liked how he subtly told Siri that she needn?t of tried manipulation on Obi-Wan, that all she needed to do was ask. :)

jedipati: Ben smiled at his brother in all but blood, and they turned to the cockpit of their ship. They moved as one. For one they were, and the Darkness surrounded them- the one rejected by the Jedi, to the Jedi?s demise, and the one who could have brought balance to the Force. They were at home in the Dark- and always would be.

A darkside Obi and Ani. I think this is a vig waiting to be expanded? :D

Knight_Dilettante: Mace wrestling! [face_laugh] That was interesting! :D I think this needs to be continued. ;)

This is my attempt at this challenge...

Obi-Wan wasn?t initially chosen and was on a ship bound for Agri-Corps. What if Qui-Gon hadn?t taken him as his apprentice? What if Obi-Wan had skipped Agri-Corps altogether though? What would he have grown up to be? Write a post showing an AU Obi-Wan. What type of career could you see him picking?

    Title: An Unchosen Life
    Author: bek (a.k.a. Bekah_K)
    Genre: AU
Characters: Obi-Wan (Minor character: Anakin - with mention of Qui-Gon)
Disclaimer: The characters (Obi-Wan, Anakin, Qui-Gon) belong to Lucas. I make no profit from this.

    An Unchosen Life

The rain softly pelted against the windowed wall, droplets sticking momentarily then trailing vertically down the length and then switching with the currents of the wind to dance merrily on a horizontal or diagonal angle. The streaked water pellets created designs that perfectly decorated the clear glass, the lights within the room seeming brightened due to the gray overcast outside the pane.

The students were working quietly before him, their assignment to write a one-page paper on what they would most like to be when they reached the age of majority. One of the students had bravely raised his hand asking why this task, out of context with what they were currently learning, was significant. He had patiently explained that it was important to have goals and to know where one wanted to go in life. He knew from experience that having only one mindset of what a person wished to be left the individual adrift when that dream did not become reality. He had explained that this was a practice they would repeat each quarter until the end of their grade term, with each new cycle, he clarified, interests may change and minds could be enlightened to new challenges.

He preferred the class to write the essays in longhand as he felt that it made them think before putting their utensil to flimsiplast as well as helping them to remember in detail what goal they were temporarily committing themselves to.

As he listened to the diverse sounds the various writing instruments made as they came into contact with the hard surface beneath their intended targets, he smiled. He to had agreed, as a challenge from his class, to write down his own aspirations of what he hoped to accomplish in the near future. This hadn?t been his first dream or goal as he had termed it to his learners, his first ? his only ? ambition had been becoming a Jedi Knight though his students need never know that. Upon his thirteenth life day he had been given orders to report to a transport on it?s way to Bandomeer, as was the routine for all initiates not chosen to become an apprentice. His life had been selected for him, he was to be a farmer who would learn to care and revive ailing crops that could then feed people in need. He knew there was good in that work, that he could make a difference in the galaxy by helping poverty-ridden societies to survive another day. But it wasn?t what his heart desired; it wasn?t where he knew his destiny lied. He had left three years later.

He stared at the rain remembering the day he had been discharged from the Jedi. It had been raining on Coruscant much as it was now. He remembered feeling as though somehow the force wept at his dismissal and was showing its sorrow by opening the skies above. He had heard vague rumors later on that Coruscant had experienced a malfunction in their weather control that day, but he knew in his heart that it had been the force?s way of reminding him that it would always be with him.

Stretching out with his senses he felt each life force within the room, each one so full of promise yet in need of devoted guidance. The force eagerly caressed his senses affirming that it would be with him wherever he was. It still had need of the destiny it had designed for him, that he knew, that much it comfortingly told him when he chose to listen. He had wandered the galaxy for eight years before once again landing on Alderaan. During his travels he had com

:_| Oh Bek! That was heartbreakingly sad! It was wonderful to see Obi in the role of teacher, I think that fits him perfectly. It was so sad to know Qui-Gon regretted rejecting him and died with that burden. Beautiful! =D=

bek - I really love Obi-Wan as a teacher. I guess that's not saying much since I even love him when he's written as a Sith. But, I can really see him as a teacher. I'm glad that Anakin found freedom in this AU.

    Mission of Mercy

The office was shabby, at least according to Xanatos? tastes. Perhaps a better word would have been functional or ordinary. It had a desk, a chair, and shelves with the associated clutter and stacks of datapads. The only thing to give the small space any sort of character was the wide assortment of different species of plants and various holos of people Xanatos obviously didn?t know. He shifted impatiently in a very uncomfortable, very hard chair and turned his attention to his companion who was sitting very serenely.

?I can?t believe I?m still letting you drag me around on these missions of mercy.? He scowled at the impish grin that graced the other man?s face. ?I have yet to understand how I let you rook me into all of this.?

?You complain far too much, do you know that ? partner?? Obi-Wan said, finally turning to look at Xanatos.

?That?s another thing,? Xanatos continued. ?When did I decide you were a partner?? He started shaking his head. ?I never should have told you that I thought your training was complete.?

Before Obi-Wan could answer, the door opened and the owner of the office, a tall pale man, slipped in quickly sitting across from them behind the desk.

?Thank-you for coming gentlemen. And, sorry for such short notice.?

?What can we do for you?? Obi-Wan asked.

?You said to call when one of our new recruits was not adjusting well or overly angry with his or her new situation. I?ve never seen a case this bad. He won?t eat, won?t sleep, and has tried to run away twice. He is lashing out, and quite frankly, has my staff and I scared to death.?

?Well, then you should probably take us there,? Xanatos said.

They made their way through the complex, passing through large greenhouses filled with perfect rows of crops tended by youngsters of all ages. Each gave a polite bow to their well-dressed visitors, who returned their greetings amicably. They finally came to the building where the staff was housed and then to the door of a small room. It seemed more like a cell to Obi-Wan, who shuddered at a host of unpleasant memories.

The tall man opened the door, first unlatching the lock.

?You locked him up?? Obi-Wan asked incredulously.

?We had to ? for his safety and ours. We?re not equipped to handle cases like this.?

Xanatos was already peering through the opening in the door, observing the small boy curled up on the sleepcouch. He was huddled in a ball with his back towards the door like he was trying to keep warm.

?He looks a lot younger than thirteen,? Xanatos posed, pulling the door shut so that the boy couldn?t hear them talking about him.

    ?He?s actually nine.?

?I don?t understand. He still has four more years,? Obi-Wan said.

?The Jedi Council said this was a special case. They will not consider him as a candidate to be a padawan.?

Obi-Wan pushed past the man, making his way into the room, and sat on the side of the sleepcouch near the boy?s feet. The boy didn?t turn, but continued to lie awake staring at the wall.

?Why don?t you leave us alone?? Xanatos suggested to their escort in a whisper. The man nodded and hurried away, leaving Xanatos to lean against the door frame.

?Hello there,? Obi-Wan said, reaching out through the Force to nudge the youngster?s mind. He received a backlash of anger and hostility in return.

?I see,? he said calmly. ?It seems you could use a friend.?

?It won?t change anything. I should have just stayed with Watto.?

    ?Watto??

?My old owner. At least Mom was with me when I was there.?

?You were a slave and living with your mother?? Obi-Wan asked looking to Xanatos with puzzlement. It wasn?t exactly the usual Agricorps background. Xanatos just shrugged.

?Yeah ? then Master Qui-Gon freed me and took me away.?

?Ah ? so Qui-Gon brought you here.? There was a derisive tone to Obi-Wan?s words that caused the boy to suddenly sit up.

?No,? he snapped. ?Master Qui-Gon was going to train me. He said he would even if the Council didn?t approve.? The boy chocke

bek~ Obi-Wan as a teacher, I think it fits him well. :) Nicely done.

Noi ~ I think I'm not the only one who left the story unfinished. ;) So the Jedi sent Anakin off to the agri-corps after Qui-Gon was killed by the Sith and he still ended up with Obi-Wan. :D I wonder if he still would have become Darth Vader, too? [face_thinking] Well done. :)

jedipati - I love it when Anakin and Obi-Wan get along - even when they're dark. OK, maybe especially when they're dark. [face_devil]

KD - Kid Kenobi! [face_laugh] ...the Kid agreed to accept the next film offer he received. For months afterwards he wondered why. I'm wondering too! I hope we get to find out sometime.

bek - Lovely! The rain description and Obi-Wan's thoughts and memories. It's touching to find out Qui-Gon did regret not training him.

Noi - Aww! More Obi/Xanatos. [face_love] What's a girl to do? I just love the idea of them helping out some of the rejected initiates. However, the story does seem a little ... incomplete. [face_batting]

Noi... I could have sworn I replied to this story earlier, but I obviously didn't... Curse my inability to push the Post Button! :_|

As for your lovely response to the challenge, it was just that, lovely!

It was great to see Xani's and Obi's response to the death of Qui-Gon...

When you have the chance and the time, you should expand upon this, even a little more would rock, I mean a follow-up viggie about Anakin's fall or lack there of. [face_batting]

What would he have grown up to be? Write a post showing an AU Obi-Wan. What type of career could you see him picking?

    Here is my take;

    Title: The Unwanted
    Author: kestrel_kenobi
    Genre: AU angsty-mush?
    Characters: Obi-Wan, OC.
Disclaimer: I don't own Obi-Wan or Star Wars. But Orla is mine!

They were the lost children, hidden beneath the skyscrapers of Corsucant, running through the shadows. They travelled in packs, never alone, there was safety in numbers. They begged, borrowed and stole in order to survive. They looked on it as taking what they were owed. They were the forgotten, the unwanted.

"Gottcha," Obi-Wan grabbed a young boy and flung him high into the air. The other six children shrieked with laughter as they tried to escape Obi's outstretched arms but somehow he managed to catch them all and give each child a tickle or a hug. They often played games like this in the backstreets of Corsucant, some of the older children leaned against the wall of a nearby building talking and watching the younglings play. A tall, kind girl known as Orla appeared with a sack and the younger children ran to her expectantly. She paused and opened the sack offering the contents to the children, knowing how hungry they were. Today had been a good day and there was plenty of food to go round.

Later, as night fell, Obi and Orla bundled the children in to rags, sacks, boxes and anything else they could find to keep out the night's chill. Some of the older children also lay down to sleep but most crept into the night to find supplies.

Obi carefully lit a small fire as the children settled down for the night. He would be on watch until the early hours; taking care of the children who were here and waiting for the others to return. They trusted him and he hadn't failed them yet. He was their guardian and although he hadn't asked for the responsibility, he honoured his given role. It wasn't always easy though...he settled next to the fire, his thoughts drifting back to when he had first left the Jedi Temple. He had run as fast and as far as he could, trying to lose himself and his past in the chaos of the lower levels where he was unknown. He wanted to forget who he was and who he was going to become...

Suddenly, a noise in the night broke his concentration and he roused himself, standing up and staring into the darkness but could sense nothing there. He checked over the children and smiled when he noticed that Orla had fallen asleep next to May-Lin, the youngest in their group. Returning to the fire he leant forward and poked the flames with a stick, his mind returning to the past. It took him a long time to accept that he was no longer on the path he had followed for as long as he could remember; to accept that his dream of being a Jedi was gone. In fact, Obi realised it wasn't until recently that he had let go of the past completely and managed to feel at peace with himself for the first time after eight long years of struggle.

When he originally arrived down here Obi thought he would be alone in his grief and despair, but instead he found he was one of many. There were so many other children just like him, abandoned and disregarded. So many others with untold stories, some much worse than his. He had seamlessly merged into their ever-changing world, a world in which children appeared and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

The first child he found had been Orla who was a few years younger than himself. She was a small girl until adolescence hit and then she had shot up to be almost as tall as Obi. She had untidy blonde hair and huge silvery eyes that, he recalled, reminded him of Bant. Having suppressed his connection to the Force since leaving his old life behind, he was surprised when it had led him to Orla. Without question he had followed his senses and let them guide him to

Ooh! Getting caught up was not as tough as I'd thought it would be and definitely fun!

Jedipati I like Dark Obi and Ani. Wonderful job! I liked how you used the little parallel univese bits slipped in with the story.

Knight_Dilettante Great use of both possible careers! Loved how the Jedi are still coming in and getting Obi to do stuff for them.

Bek That was simply gorgeous! I loved it!

Master_Noi Um, more please? That was great! I like this incarnation of this trio a lot.

Kestrel_Kenobi Darling Padawan! I love this AU and you are definitely going to write more about Obi and Orla! Right? [face_batting]
