Hey guys I was watching the PT over the past two days and couldn't help but the similarities between the ends of the two fights. In TPM Maul has the high ground and obi wan ends up cutting him in half while in ROTS Obi has the high ground and cuts Anakin in half. I have watched PT plenty of times and I had never noticed this before was it done on purpose or merely coincidence? I don't believe its conscience as their probably Obi Wans biggest and most important duels as a Jedi. I was just wondering if any body else had noticed this or had any thoughts on it?

It has been noticed, and seems intentional, the reason for why though remains quite a mystery Imo.
Copying and pasting from another thread...
(Some of these pics aren't the best representation, but should still make the point)

Anakin kind of replaces both -
    - Qui-Gon ("Obi-Wan's partners" at odds with the Jedi Council)
    - and Maul (Palpatine's "prize apprentices" who Obi-Wan defeats) in ROTS:

Each duel reaches it's end with a saber lock:

In TPM Obi-Wan is reckless, and is overpowered and pushed to "low-ground":
    [IMG][IMG]
In ROTS Obi-Wan does the smart thing and jumps to high-ground which he think will end the fight. (Also, notice Obi-Wan learns about saber-locks in the prequels... he is defeated by both Maul (TPM) and Dooku (AOTC) when being overpowered by a saber-lock. In ROTS he defensively retreats before it can happen):

    - TPM; Obi-Wan regains himself, takes his fallen Master's saber, jumps over Maul and kills him:
    - ROTS; Anakin foolishly tries to use Obi-Wan's move on Obi-Wan himself, not heeding Obi-Wan's warning and losing his limbs.
Notice the use of a saber belonging to Obi-Wan's Master (that the Sith apprentice killed), and Obi-Wan taking a saber belonging to Obi-Wan's apprentice (that the Sith apprentice Vader "consumed").

Plus a (Maul death) / (Dooku death) contrast for Obi-Wan then Anakin...

i think it's coincidence. plus obi wan was unarmed vs. Maul , which played into Maul not reacting quickly enough.
