Yeah, I've noticed that ever since my first viewing.

Why is it funny? They already know each other - they met in the cantina.

He was simply giving a wave to signal Chewie that they were there. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, but I dunno, I like the gesture. :)

It give a "kindly old man" quality to Obi-Wan, taking away from his sometimes sarcastic tone. It's the way he waves too... Not just a curt tip of the hat or something, it's a genuinely friendly, arm-extended up wave. I bet he's smiling under that hood , too.

    I like the gesture. :)

I know this is the Classic Trilogy forum, but with the casting of Chewbacca in Ep3, I wonder if there will be a scene with Chewie and Obi-wan which will give a more deeper meaning to the wave in the eyes of us fans, at least. I always had a suspicion that Obi-wan already knew Chewbacca when he first arrived at the Cantina with Luke. When Obi-wan arrives at the Cantina, he is first seen speaking to another pilot, who gestures behind him. Could Obi-wan have been asking if Chewbacca had been in recently? If, after all, they were looking for just any pilot with a ship, why not the first person Obi-wan spoke with?

I think there are certain characters in the trilogy who are just really, really cool and seem to get along very well, like they have some kind of understanding and mutual respect. These are Obi-Wan, R2-D2, and Chewie for the rebels, and Vader, Boba Fett, and Veers for the bad guys. Han, Luke, Leia, the Emperor, Piett, and C-3PO just argue and bicker. These others are chilled out with one another.

I think another Special Edition should put in Obi-Wan going "Yo, C-Dogg, whaddup? Slap me some skin, gangsta!" as he waves.
