In another thread today I got an idea for set up a thread for us to recommend off beat, but good, movies to each other.

    My specialty is British Film:

British Comedy - Cold Comfort Farm
    Peter's Friends

    U.K. Thriller - Shallow Grave

    Welsh Melodrama - Billy Elliott

& for straight comedy - I Am The One That I Want - Margaret Cho (even better followed it)

Excellent Film, & you'd be amazed at how many people haven't seen it.

My dad's very interested in the movie Toys, with Robin Williams. That movie's VERY obscure, I'd be surprised if any of you have seen it.

    Great movie.

It really shows the danger of bringing the values of war into every aspect of life.

What was the B-film that had the kid from the Walton's as the space farm-boy hero, and he flew around in a bull-lookin' ship that was alive. I really liked that movie...had that sultry Valkyrie, the space cowboy, the sun-midgets, the lone lizard and the born-again mercenary!

Hey guys, this is just simply research. I cut my internet teeth doing genealogy research. I've built up a great (and very large) system of saved links for finding nearly anything & anyone.

BTW - imdb.com is the place for movie info

Peter's Friends - Rita Rudner and Kenneth Branagh - Hilarious

Billy Elliott - I'm a strong enough man to say that I cried at this :(

I Am The One That I Want - Margaret Cho - Didn't see this, but I am a fan of hers, I saw her earlier special

Toys - quirky, interesting movie with many layers

at the moment i'm spending a lot of time with a little cult vampire film from 1987 - Near Dark

If you like vamp stuff, Sci Fi Channel's "Forever Knight" was very good...I thought!

Probably the most obscure that is my favorite is "City of Lost Children". If you can handle subtitles, this is the one to see. I just finished watching Delicatessen. Same creators and I would recommend both if you are into surreal.

I heard about the Lost Children one, I'll have to check it out. And Delicatessan was fantastic. Lately I've been catching some Aussie movies, they have a unique twist sometimes.

Once Were Warriors & The Dish were two of the best I've seen, but there are quite a few good ones. Once Were Warriors, is not an easy movie to watch though, you have to be prepared to actually pay attention, plus it's pretty long. The Dish is about the first television broadcast from the moon and the role a large radio telescoping satellite dish in the sheep ranching plains of Australia plays in it's transmission. Sam Neil is great & that behemoth from the M&M commercials & Seinfeld is great as a very anal NASA official.

sweet, I really liked Forever Knight and I'm going to be off during the day on Monday! :). Looks like I'm taking over the dayroom. That show was kinda like highlander, but with vampires :).
