I upgraded to Win10 and now Chrome's not working. It wouldn't open, but in Task Mgr there'd be a bunch of Chrome processes running. I tried to do the uninstall/reinstall and it just hangs on a box with the Chrome icon saying "Downloading".

Now, I can use Firefox in the interim except I have Chromecast and guess which desktop browsers it doesn't support?

If you said "all but Chrome", correct.

Word on the street is the 64 bit release of Chrome isn't playing nicely with Win10, though I'm not sure anyone knows why. I think you might just be SOL.

I use the 64-bit version of Chrome and I'm having no problems. Whenever I've had problems (running on Windows 8.1 or before), an extension was to blame.

Well I uninstalled adobe flash and installed it again and it's working a little better, but it's not up to where it used to be. It still has these slight pauses and crackle sounds. Dare I keep uninstalling it and installing it or is there some sort of setting that might bring the whole thing back to 100%?

Yeah Googs (my name of Google) are recommending installing the Canary build to see if that works. I will try it later.

Otherwise I have to put files on my phone to Cast now. [face_plain]

Installed WIN 10 (from Win 8.1) on two computers last week.

First was a desk top I've had for six months and which I use to record all my weather video's on (has quite a bit of specialist software which I need to get all the video's together) and that went great. No problems at all.

The second computer was a three year old ASUS laptop. That went fine but after the install had an issue with the finger pad not working for a couple of day's. Is OK now though as MS sent a new driver through with a Windows update.

Overall everything has gone fine and I think Win 10 is a much better OS than 8 or 8.1. I notice web pages downloading much faster and it's just generally a far more stable system.

    Very happy with the upgrade's.

Oh and as a website owner, I can't tell you how happy I am with EDGE - Mainly because it might finally mean in a few years I won't have to keep building my website with cr*ppy IE in mind! [face_laugh]

And Edit 2: Cortana seems like one foxy lady! :D

Edit 3: On Browsers, I haven't noticed an issue on my 64 bit PC's. I test my website regularly with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, IE and now Edge and all browsers are working fine from what I can see.

There are a few suggestions in this thread. The thread is a bit old but they might be worth trying. Also a Google search with 'video + youtube + stuttering' might get more tips.

Yeah I was trying a bunch of those tips yesterday. For someone who took a course on computers in college, I didn't retain much of it. I don't think I've ever experimented so much on firefox or adobe before. Install this and disable that add on etc.

After actually hours and hours of running around, I was able to find something, at least for youtube that worked. While I was having trouble with vimeo and all other sites, for youtube I realized for some reason it was using a different flash player. I don't know why it switched, but I had to disable that in order for youtube to recognize the only player it could possibly use was adobe flash. Very weird. I now have a little link at the top of firefox that lets me know which flash youtube is using. The html5 thing certainly wasn't helping.

Even now it still stutters at the start of each video, but it quickly resolves itself. I'll take that for now since it sounded horrendous before that. Plus this whole thing started when I updated adobe to fix crashing problems with the plugin.

    Thanks

Keep an eye out for new Adobe updates - if there's an issue with the player causing this I'd expect a pretty quick patch to be released.

The only problem I've had with Chrome since the upgrade is that it's no longer the fastest browser. :p

It's pretty neat how the Cortana on Windows 10 PC is able to load all my personal information and interests from the Cortana that I use on Windows Phone 8. The only feature absent during this connectivity is specific reminders (ie the "Cortana, remind me to..." feature). Apparently reminders cannot be synchronized between Windows Phone 8 Cortana and Windows 10 PC Cortana. But most Windows Phones will bring getting the upgrade to 10 and then my Cortana experience will be complete. [face_love]

The wife's Windows 7 PC was acting up, due to overall virus/spyware negligence, so I decided to do the Windows 10 upgrade while I was cleaning it up. Her PC had that convenient "Get Windows 10" app in the corner of the task bar (which my Windows 8.1 PC lacked), but the app kept hanging. This darn thing. So many people seemed to have such a smooth experience with that app, but I've now upgraded two PCs by having to go around that seemingly convenient option.

Anyway, apart from that, upgrading her PC was a generally smoother experience than upgrading my Windows 8.1 PC. However, once Windows 10 was installed, I had an immediately smoother experience on my PC. This was due to the fact that Windows 10 had already borrowed my info from my Windows 8 Phone, so Cortana was already set up for me and, having been using a Microsoft account across all my devices previously, everything else was synched up nicely too.

She uses an iPhone and the only Microsoft account she has was for the Xbox 360 (an account that she hasn't used in several years). So I had to endure several security checks and verifications on her MS account...a process which apparently won't be completed until September (as I had to reset her old, outdated contact information). So, no Cortana for her yet. I guess she'll just have to make due with that Siri thing still. :p

Updating the operating system isn't a good idea if there is malware lurking about.

I prefer a fresh clean install vs upgrading, I tried upgrading from Vista to Win 7 first chance I got.

Big mistake, I formatted the hard drive, deleted the partition and recreated it. Problems went away with a fresh install.

It will probably take a new PC/laptop for me to go to Win 10. I'm currently on Win 7 and I like it.

I took care of the malware before updating.

Windows 10 has now been installed on 75 million PCs after four weeks of being released among 192 countries (with 14 million PCs having been upgraded to Windows 10 within the first day of release).

It just wants to know all your information, what and where you like to eat and watch and read, where you work and live, who your friends are, what events you have coming up in your and your friends' calendars, and so forth so that Cortana can better assist you with living your life. :)

You can just talk to Cortana and orally tell her yourself. :)

Think of yourself as an Uber passenger. Windows 10 is a shiny new car that comes to pick you up. The driver, Cortana, is a nosy but friendly lady with a lovely voice who wants to know all about you during the drive.

I've had Windows 10 for over a month and a half, but the Disk Defragmenter feature (called Disk Optimizer here) has been constantly showing the system needing to be defragged, but nothing I do seems to work.

    Any advice?

    Taking a computer programming class.

Not really asking for help, just comprehension, on something it doesn't seem like the textbook is getting into.

Letters and other characters are converted into binary numbers, and vice versa. The textbook gives an example of how "A" is 65, and once a binary 65 is entered it knows to convert it into "A." But how does it know when it should be "A" or "65" or something else entirely?
