According to a story in The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is planning to drop the price of the Xbox by $30 (to $149) next month.

Citing people familiar with the company's plans, the Journal said Microsoft may also start selling a limited-edition Xbox packaged with its Halo shooting game, for $169.

    As predicted:

(Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. on Monday cut the price on its Xbox video game console, in an expected move seen as a boost to the game publishing industry ahead of its biggest gathering of the year.

    Other notes:

Analysts and publishers say the move was necessary for the game industry to achieve its growth targets for the year, and some have even raised the idea of prices going to $129.

Microsoft loses money on Xbox sales but makes money on sales of video games.

Prices on some of their games have also been cut.

    In the news:

SAN ANTONIO - A Texas woman heating fish sticks was shot in the leg by a gun that had been stashed in her oven. The police said that a friend of hers had hidden the .357 caliber handgun in the stove two weeks earlier without telling her after she told him no guns were allowed in her house. No charges have been filed because the shooting was accidental.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - City officials were so concerned about the potentially dangerous properties of dihydrogen monoxide (an odorless, tasteless chemical that can be deadly if accidentally inhaled) that they considered banning foam cups after they learned the chemical was used in their production. Then they learned, to their chagrin, that dihydrogen monoxide ? H2O for short ? is the scientific term for water.

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - A Cambodian man cut off his penis when he said he was visited by four hungry spirits in a dream and he had no chicken or duck to offer them. Villagers in the deeply impoverished southeast Asian traditionally offer chicken, duck or cake to the spirits of the dead to ward off bad luck.

They are releasing two new variants. One commemorates the Louisiana Purchase (out now). The other commemorates the Louis and Clark expedition (fall of 2004).

Thanks, but I've got one for my mom, and I'm sure I'll run into plenty more before it's all said and done with. Heck, you can still find the Bicentinial quarters and wheat pennies in circulation today. I just thought it was cool and figured you guys might think so too.
