I am not sure that Ep3 will make as much money as you think it will. It will be very dark and who knows what people will be thinking about in 3 years.

They actually started selling midnight showings on Monday. Problem was the Famous Player website did not show it until later and the people who work there are pretty ignorant.

The way I found it was to go directly to the movietickets.com website and then choose May 15th. A real pain it was.

I really think that if Famous Players had gotten their act in gear, they would have been able to do at least 30 more midnight showings and more shows during the day. That would have pushed the total up another million

So it made more than TPM on it's first day of release. That's great news, and a tremendous opening for a Thursday. This movie deserves it.

How did you get the numbers from BoxOfficeMojo...Were they by email?

That would be considered a very disapointing Friday take.

If it only made $25 million Friday then it might not even make $85 million over the weekend. While Lucas has said he is not a numbers guy and does not worry about the weekend numbers (and I guess it must be true since if he wanted a huge box office he would open up on the Friday of Memorial day weekend) it will just make AOTC look like less of a movie to the general public (who for some strange reason care). :)

I had predicted the movie would make $86 million this weekend so the numbers are pretty much around what I expected.

However, next weekend might be a big one again for AOTC. With no real competition and a long weekend we should see the movie hit close to $250 million.

25 million on a Friday is damn good.

I mean, it made 30 million on opening day and then 25 million on Friday. That is damn good.

Curious how do they base estimates anyway?

Also BoxOfficeMojo has AOTC at 24.66M

TPM made "only" 12 million on its second day out (albeit a thurs)- AOTC has done much better. Mr Lucas has made his advertising money back in any event.

What was TPM day by day opening weekend?

TPM opened on the Wednesday with $28.6 and then dipped 57% the next day, scoring $64 million for the weekend.

    $25 million is slightly disappointing.

We need to relax...TPM made a meager $18 million on its first Friday. That film disappointed a lot of fans and went on to gross $431 million. At $25 million,AOTC is well ahead of that pace. We are definitely going to have a higher Worldwide total due to the great reviews outside the U.S. so as long as we stay ahead of the TPM pace and get near or pass $400 million stateside, everything will be great. The main point is that the film was amazing...

Well, it's extremely hard to tell whether 25 million is dissapointing. First, Phantom Menace's opening friday was only 18.5 million. That is 35% less than it's opening day.

AOTC's opening day was 30 million, friday is 25 million, only 17% less....

Through 2 days, AOTC is only 4.5 million less than TPM in it's first 3 days...

Because of that middle thursday for TPM, it's hard to compare really...

If you make the same pickup for saturday, and dropoff for sunday that TPM had, it's around 86 million...

I'll smile at an $86 million weekend leading into Memorial Day weekend. And remeber what Lucas said, "With this film, it's not a sprint, I look at it as more of a marathon."

If AOTC does similiar to TPM the rest of the weekend we should see like

    $32M Saturday
    $28M Sunday

I wonder how much the BO is being affected by the Cereal coupons for kids. I have 6 to use.

Would love to know the count of tickets sold.

If we take home $86 million for the weekend, that's $116 in four days! Outstanding! Any Memorial Day weekend predictions...I say $74 for the four days. We have a good chance to cross $200 million on Memorial Day.
