*Official* AOTC's place in the Star Wars saga

Considering many folks have now seen the film or will be seeing it prior to May 16th, I have decided to start this thread a day or so early. Many threads have been started as to where AOTC ranks with the other films and how it fits in with the rest. This is now the official thread for all such discussion.

JOTUN-- Have you seen it? I just wanted to know if you had a reason for placing it second of all time.

Unofrutnately, so much of this question of where is AOTC's place in the saga is skewed by the post TPM fallout/civil war in the hard-core fan community. So many people are hoping Clones can save the franchise or silence the bashers that I think people may be a bit biased in picking its place.

Still fun to speculate though, of course. I haven't seen it yet, so I'll have to get back to this on Friday.

I think Ive decided on:

1. ESB
2. AOTC
3. TPM
4. ANH
5. ROTJ

Although, AOTC is so close to ESB that I might replace the two.

 

I can't tell you how awesome I find it that so many are ranking this second only to ESB. That says alot about AOTC.

 

I expect my list to turn out this way.

You haven´t seen anything till you´ve seen EVERYTHING!

Nevertheless, my personal ranking:

#1 SW saga

 

hehe just wait till you see the movie, DS! You'll understand.

well i think admiral jimmy got it right, i really love all the movies

 

And I rather tend to see 6 movies as one story.
TPM mostly serves AOTC and EpIII.
That´s why it was clear after ROTJ that Ep VII-Ep IX will never be made. (That´s why I´m really disappointed with ROTJ - this one should have been remade! - that was a bit like a huge shortcut.Like when you read a book, you´re quite in the midts and then suddenly go to the final chapter.)
That´s why ROTJ would be one of my least favourite SW movies, because the plot is a bit fuzzy (resolve the fate of Han Solo, then finish off the baddies!).
It´s a pity that a story that would have been great with 9 parts was reduced to six parts. (on the other hand SW would have got boring like StarTrek)
So the trilogy is fine the way it is.

AOTC´s place in the SW saga?? It´s the second part and the begin of the Clone Wars...

 

Yes I have seen AOTC and I honestly think it was a great movie. It does have many flaws in certain parts of the script but overall, I loved it. The plot was great, the movie was much more mature, the action seqences are superb, Shmi's death and her burial are one of the most emotional moments in the saga and I really enjoyed how the overall story is finally together.


But then again, that's just my opinion....

It's the second episode, and fifth movie released.

I'll know after Thursday. I have some high hopes...

 

Hmm, well I just can't understand how some of you guys rate ROTJ lower than TPM. The guy with the Tarkin icon put ESB as the worst? Pffft...how old are you man?

Anyway, no I haven't seen it yet....but judging from the fantastic story, this could be number 2 for me. The only thing I'm worried about is the crappy acting (it was bad in TPM, especially Portman) but Christensen is cool. I have so much respect for that guy now. He's a proud Canadian and so am I!

Yeah, so, if the love scenes are good, then it will easily be number 2 for me after ESB. I have a soft spot for that type of thing so I'm not really worried.

Anyway, I'm predicting having to adjust my rankings accordingly.

it was bad in TPM, especially Portman

I thought when she was playing the Queen in TPM she was absolutley perfect, especially her scenes with Palpatine.

 

Natalie's acting is great.

I haven't seen AOTC yet, but I think the order of the best movies (IMO) will be like this:

1. TESB
2. AOTC
3. ROTJ
4. ANH
5. TPM

But my favorite SW movies order will be most likely like this:

1. AOTC
2. ROTJ
3. TESB
4. TPM
5. ANH

 

I'm still on cloud nine from seeing it yesterday, but right now I'd rank AOTC as the best Star Wars yet.

Well... after my vocal stance on this board I guess my list will be no real surprise:

I think ranking the movies by importance to the story I would go like this:

TPM > AOTC > E 3 > ANH > ESB > ROTJ

Mar17swgirl I have lists of best and favourite too. I consider ESB the best, but its not always my favourite, and usually the one I watch the least.

 

When it's all said and done, here's how I expect my list to turn out:

1. Episode 3
2. AOTC & ESB
4. ROTJ
5. ANH
6. TPM

Sure, it's "cool" to put Menace last, but there are parts of EP1 that rank higher than most of the OT in my book...this is based on the movie as a whole though. While I also believe AOTC will be a better movie in my book over ESB, it cannot overcome the nostalgia factor of being a kid playing with an AT-AT in the snow.
