It's so great to see this fanclub growing. Congrats, Pearl. You're doing an excellent job.

 

I think that there is no better place to post those questions than here. Ive read the Darth Plagueis book nad i thought that they could give more focus to palpatine's personality and motivations.
I know that he wasn't happy with his father opinions and wanted to introduce Naboo to galactic market. So here's my first question:

1- What motivations did palpatine have to become a sith? The novel says that he didn't have agood relationship with his father and would be kind of exiled, and he liked to study ancient sith artifacts, but why would he kill his entire family and join the sith? what were his goals?

Then he became apprentice of Darth Plagueis. Many year later he kill his master.

2- Why he killed Plagueis without getting all knowledge before? Especially important ones, like midichlorian manioulation?

Now he is the supreme chancellor of republic and want to become the emperor of the galaxy

3- Why he wants to be emperor? He already controlled all the republic, why he thinks that an empire is better than a republic?

He became the emperor of the galaxy

4- In his speach he talks about an unifyed language, unified currency and peace. What have he done about this? Actually, what have he done as an emperor at all, besides building an army and super weapons? Was the galaxy a better place in the empire?

For those who may not know the FIGS is basically a thread where fans of Ian McDiarmid can gather around and discuss his work. Not just his work in Star Wars but also his work in other films and his plays too.

I love sidious, one of the most productive of all Sith lords. Though he had a great master. Hail the Sith

 

I'd say he is the most productive Sith ever considering his victory is one of the most complete you will ever see. Fools everyone, including his hated rivals who can supposedly sense other force users, for years and years into believing he is a decent person, seizes complete control of the government of the galaxy, builds up the largest most powerful military force ever, wipes out nearly every last one of the Jedi, and the list goes on. The dude is patient, resourceful, and a genius!!

Hi, I want to join this club, because I enjoyed the subtle or less subtle manipulations of Palpatine/Sidious very much. The first Star-Wars encounter with him except from the random Lego-movies I had watching the three parts of the Prequel-trilogy in just one day and that was pretty much stuff for me to digest. And I was wobbling if the Jedi were right or Palpatine. His arguments towards Anakin about Jedi striving for power seemed logical to me. And I was not aware that Palpatine was the bad guy until Anakin sobbed after the killing of Mace Windu: "What have I done?!"

Here one of my favorite quotation from Sidious.
It is from James Luceno's "Darth Plagueis"-novel, when Sidious had given that seldom and expensive red-white-dotted Pylat-bird to viceroy Nute Gunray to bait him. And when Sidious introduces himself to the vice-roy for the first time, referring to his until now anonymous gift, there was on app. page 443 that nice dialogue, which I translated from German:

Sidious (in hologram): "What if I would tell you, that I can reach out with my hands through time and space in order to choke him (the Pylat-bird) to death now and here?"

Nute Gunray: "You can't do that. I doubt that even a Jedi ..."

Sidious: "Do you challenge me, vice-roy?"
.....
Nute Gunray: "How can I answer to this in the knowledge, that you possibly choke me to death, if I would ever strive against you?"

Sidious (making a theatralic sigh): "Partner don't choke each other to death, vice-roy. I would prefer to win your trust. Can we agree on this?"

Nute Gunray: "Possibly".

 

Not interested in membership at the moment, but I thought some of the people here would get a kick out of this.
