I remember when I first watched ROTJ, I thought the Emperor was something utterly demonic. The way he looked like his body was almost rotting, I figured he had to be incredibly ancient, using the dark side to prolong his life. He was the dark side version of Yoda, whereas the Jedi Master was a wise sage, the Emperor was a wicked sorcerer. When I watched ROTS, I was so happy to be see the duel between these two. Intercut with Vader vs. Obi-Wan, it really felt like the two trilogies had finally come together ("For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the Dark Times, before the Empire." )

 

Good,the appreciation for Sheev pardon , I must be frank ,Sidious is growing ...

I also find his first name strange. And I guess the former Senator of Naboo and later Emperor did as well. That's why he neglected it. And up to now I have no idea where this first name is first mentioned. In a SW-Novel I didn't read yet?

Interesting: the term "Sheev" is mentioned as the name for a certain plasma-dagger within the universe of the game "warframe".

 

Just for anyone who still doesn't know: Palpatine's first name was first mentioned in the "Tarkin"-novel by James Luceno, as I found out today.

 

Based on his stabbing lightsaber motion, his name could just as easily be Shiv.

Darth Sidious: "Don't mess with me... I will cut a Bith!"

 

I still prefer Cosinga.

 

That name was based on part of the original name for the Emperor, Cos Da****. Admittedly the first name is cool but seriously, what's with the last name. So glad they changed it to Palpatine. I'm just happy he finally got a first name.

 

Agreed on Palpatine, but I still wish they kept Cosinga or even Cos as his first name.
