Solo [Official Info] Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian) in Solo

Han is front and center in all the trailers, while Lando appears in just a few scenes. I don't think there's any actual justification for the view that they're pushing Lando over Han. It's just that a lot of fans find Glover's looks and mannerisms to be closer to Lando than Alden's are to Han, and so they focus on how cool he is.

Me? I think they're both spot on. Excellent casting, all around.

 

Nicely said, I agree 100% with you. Great casting for all the characters, by what we can see so far.

 

Doubt that's the reason actually. It's all in the mind, it's not what they actually think, it's what they want others to think of them.

 

I gotta say; Lando's outfit is one of the better ones that I have seen in a movie. Good look.

I genuinely wish capes were fashionable in the real world.

 

They actually are very fashion-forward for women.

 

.....and for men as well.

 

Larry David is a clear exception, of course.

Technically, that is Larry David, but this is a photo of Larry Calrissian, father of Lando, chatting with his chief of security. It's a spy photo from the studio lot of LANDO - A Star Wars Story. Alfre Woodard plays Lando's mother.

 

I agree, it's a great look. However, I kind of feel it's a little bit TOO familiar, if you know what I mean. It's basically the same outfit Lando is wearing in Cloud City in ESB, with just a slight FEW alterations. This is the case a bit with Han too (although with him there's at least some notable differences.)

I'm all for homage and callback of familiarity to help sell them as the younger versions of Lando and Han and all that-but I would've been okay if they were wearing something different, since it is after all about 13 years earlier. I mean it would be the same if we saw Luke on Ahch-To wearing the same black tunic and boots we saw in ROTJ.

I know it's nitpicky, but I'd have preferred if Lando's outfit wasn't SO ESB "on the nose."

 

I get what you are saying; but I think it is nice to have that established look with Classic Characters. It's like with T-shirt and jeans; a classic look that never changes. And at least Lando has a different color combo with this outfit, with the yellow and black.

 

Eh, I don't think it's as similar as you're making it out to be. The bright yellow contrasting with the bright blue, the tie, and the red belt, really give it a distinct enough edge. Indeed, I find the new costume to be better than his ESB one, which has a much more monotone palette.

 

I wonder if the untied tie around the neck will catch on.

 

I'm sure that they got that from Sammy Davis Jr.

 

I wonder if we're going to see what Han is talking about in ESB when he responds to Chewie "...well that was a long time ago, I'm sure he's forgotten about that!" I wonder just what that was, and if we'll see it in Solo. The other thing I might wonder if we'll see is the Battle of Tanaab, (sp.?) and Lando's supposed "little maneuver?"

I guess it depends on where the film ends up at, in terms of timeline-and whether or not Han ends up having a chance to see him again after the events of Solo. After all it at least seems like he hasn't seen Lando since before ANH...If they did show those things, I think it would be an awesome way to connect the films in terms of backstory!

 

Honestly, the only motivation for me to see this movie in any form is because of Lando.

As the source of this information is a crackpot, we should be OK.

 

They reckoned Snoke was really Tarkin and MVS was playing the spirit of Obi-Wan before TFA so they have a record of coming up with wildly improbable conclusions. Probably has something to do with working at a well known comic book and collectibles store that shares it's name with a 1956 sci-fi classic...
