I hope she's playing the baddie.

Not necessarily an Imperial, though. She's just too tiny.

I'm all for her casting. She's a wonderful actress, with ILM-worthy sentient eyebrows... [face_hypnotized]

Well, they knew they needed to up their eyebrow game to compete with Cara Delevingne's in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

It's interesting that Lucasfilm listed the release date as just "2018" rather than "May 2018" which is also what they did for the Lando announcement a few weeks ago. I think that if Avatar 2 doesn't look like it's going to make its December 2018 release date (which I think is very likely), then the Han Solo movie will be pushed back to December 2018.

I'm OK with that as what I don't want to be released in Dec is Episode IX.
Don't feel like waiting 2 full years between VII and VIII and another 2 full years between VIII and IX.
this way if that is the case we'll get the Han movie in Dec 2018 and then in Summer 2019 the final movie in the ST.

the moment Avatar gets a date in December SW won't be there between the movies eating each's box office as well as the fact that Disney as interest in Avatar doing well since they are building an Avatar Land in their Theme Parks. And if Cameron makes 3 or 4 sequels than SW won't release in Dec in those 3-4 years.

A fiery pocket rocket, just like Carrie Fisher. Great casting.

Or they'll just move back to the May date they wanted in the being for all movies. Then you'll wait 2 1/2 years.

why would we wait 2 1/2 years for IX? the movie comes out in 2019, VIII comes out in Dec 2017, which means a May 2019 equals to 1 1/2 and a Dec 2019 equals 2 years. How does 2 1/2 years make sense, unless you delay IX to May 2020?

It will be about the time of the end of GoT, so it's good publicity timing.
She conquers Westros (I know, they'll probably kick us in the gut and she'll die a horrible death in the last episode) and then a few months later and then goes into space.

And, just accept it. Star Wars is the annual Christmas Movie for the next decade or so.

Han Solo will soon be smirking “Your worshipfulness” to The Mother of Dragons.
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is joining the Star Wars universe in an unspecified role in 2018’s young Han Solo movie.

The actress, best known as Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO series, will costar alongside Alden Ehrenreich as the twenty-something smuggler and Donald Glover as his gambling frenemy Lando Calrissian. Also in the cast, Chewbacca, whose early history with Solo will be explored in this story.

The still untitled film, directed by The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, will be the next stand-alone for Lucasfilm, following next month’s Rogue One. It’ll debut in the year between 2017’s Episode VIII and 2019’s Episode IX.

I love Emilia Clarke, but could we see a female lead who isn't a british, brunette white girl for once?

Leia & Padme had American accents (mostly).

Maybe Emilia will go with a different hair color, like in Thrones. & a different accent, like in Terminator.

Variety seems to be reporting that she's the female lead. Nothing wrong with another British, white female lead if she tested the best for the role. Miller and Lord are known for great casting and they also clearly were testing a number of candidates from a variety of ethnicities and nationalities. They clearly thought Emilia was the best fit.

not just that but Variety reports that they struggled to cast the female role and Han and Lando too

they also had numerous group finalist auditioning and were still struggling

wouldn't be surprised if Emilia barely won the role.
