It leaked faaaar before it showed on IMDB. There was the same argument when it showed up on IMDB. The IMDB part is really inconsequential to the leak/rumor.

It seems pretty obvious but now we have an explanation for Jyn's Imperial disguise. It's the Imperial Ground Crew uniform and the things stowed on her backpack are marshalling wands.

 

Also explains why there is a 'Imperial Ground Crew' action figure, it's probably Jyn in disguise.

 

Yeah, they go hand in hand. Especially when that illustration on the box looks more like a fighting pose rather than one to guide some shuttles about.

Maybe she's imperial mom. Evil mom could be interesting, especially if Jyn has to chose between blood or doing the right thing.

All the casting/doubles are nearly the same age as Felicity. I don't see her making it past the flashbacks.

Lack of parents makes storytelling much easier. Immediately and permanently dispense with the "Where are your parents?" question... Doesn't necessarily make it good storytelling, though.

EDIT: As a fan of Japanese animation, I see the cousin of the "dead parent(s)" one a lot, too, which is, the "parent(s) is(are) on a business trip, so I live alone" trope.

well speaking from experience live parents arent the greatest thing.

at least her father isnt the main antagonist.

 

I was talking more the "dead/unimportant mother" trope specifically. In SW, it seems like it's usually the fathers who get to live, or be important. The mother's, not so much.

 

i would say "dead/very important" mother in sw.

 

what does it matter what happens to the mother when its the daughters that count?

padme's mother isnt dead in the prequals but she's not exactly a factor either. padme dies but shes as important to the saga as anakin is. no one knows who rey's mom is other then speculation. rey is important without her. if jyns mother dies it helps shap who jyn is.
