Ive been trying to ask what was the point of Saw being in the movie but a moderator was having a hissy fit about me making a "redundant" topic thread.

    Not my fauly anyway.

So why was Saw in the movie anyway? He was a crippled disabled loony old man from the Clone Wars days who didnt really help at all. He abandoned Jyn when she was a little kid.

I think you're in the wrong time and place. Believe you were looking for Germany circa 1933-1945.

I think it’s the same as Obi-Wan in ANH (albeit Obi was more helpful, but he also let himself get killed for no apparent reason) and Maz in TFA.

He’s the older figure/mentor who gives the hero training, the lightsaber the message and the advice to follow their destined journey.

Except this time, the mentor is a wack job and an extremist. A nice subversion of the trope.

OK, we don't need that video posted in multiple threads. Also, pretty sure that those being deleted scenes in the first place is unsubstantiated at this point.

Forest Whitaker, one of the great ones

And so misunderstood and understated in this film, in my opinion

He stayed because Jedha, his ward, was lost,

And he, seeing his death draws near, decides to pass alongside it, knowing full well the cause is being passed on as well

An epic death for a man like him--cannot dismiss that he was, a bit of a terrorist

I agree. I also saw it as he did what he had set out to do. He was convinced the empire was building a super weapon and he was driven, albeit madly, to prove it. Well the proof was right there as the world itself became undone before him. He was old, damaged, and could no longer riot the way he once did. He was finished so he accepted it.

Did Saw even view Bodis message before using Bor Gullet? I would've thought the message itself was proof enough that Bodi was telling the truth.

Could still have been a ruse to draw the Rebels into a trap. But my sense is that he used the Bor Gullet on him before looking at the message. Possibly because he was too paranoid to even open it (say, for example, hitting the button would trigger a bomb, or something...). After Bor Gullet revealed that Bodhi was telling the truth, he watches the message. Or not. We don't know...

I really liked his character! Played very well by FW and seemed like a true radical surrounded by thugs / mercenaries (bounty hunters?) and subjecting Bohdi to alien interrogation. I was impressed how Saw would cause Bohdi to lose his mind if it was necessary to validate the message he brought. Disbeleiving the news of Bohdi defecting under the assumption it was probably a setup. Very radical and chaotic and even fearful!

Thanks - I did not know this and am reading up on Google.

He's a sleeper fan favorite. Decades from now, he'll have a massive, Boba-like following.

I wish they'd give the time for the Star Wars Show interview with him and Jones. I'd love to check that out.

just going to drop this here. I have a feeling Rebels will have a great impact on the way we view Saw and The Alliance Council in Rogue One.

    I was hoping we’d get a Saw/Mothma moment, and I’m a happy #RogueOne fan.
