I'm not a big monster movie fan, so the spin-off will probably be the first of his films I'll see...

 

Awesome. I've not seen Godzilla yet, but 'Monsters' (on Netflix http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/70135635?trkid=202653 ) was a superbly done small film.
Interested to see what this will turn out to be.

So does this mean we are now locked into December releases for Star Wars films? I think Disney is being very unwise with their release schedule. I can't help but wonder what this means for Episode 8. It'll either be another December release, or it'll be released within ~6 months of the spin off film (assuming it stays in 2017). I think all those options are equally distasteful.

I'm still not sold on this announced date on being what they will go with. They may yet come to their senses.

Lol really? Because he hardly mentions the prequels it automatically means he hates them? Lol.

At least they won't have to worry about big epic space battles (which would be expensive) if they do.

 

Good call on Edwards and Whitta (love the Walking Dead game, the characters and story are the best things of that game)

 

My guess is it's between Bobafett and Yoda for the 1st Spin off. I don't think Han will happen for a few years and I don't think the "Red Five" is going to be a real film, just a rumor. The 3 spin offs are as original rumored. Yoda, Bobafett and Han cause those characters are popular with general audiences.

This announcement seems like a real mixed bag as I think more about it. Monsters was Edwards' real winner imo. The human drama was supplemented by the mystery and the monster scenes. Godzilla, on the other hand, was pretty much the same old thing we usually get with Hollywood FX driven blockbusters. It was exactly what he was railing against in the interview posted above. But Godzilla films always had awful human melodrama punctuated by great monster fights, so to me it fit the historical Godzilla pattern perfectly. That's why this news seems like a murky proposition. I am far less familiar with the writer so I can't really speak to what his strengths are. What happened to Simon Kinberg and Kasdan? Are they writing the other two spinoffs? Maybe Kasdan is too busy since he took over writing duties on VII.

 

Who cares! Now directors have to like to prequels to work in a Star Wars movies?! jeezz

 

Fingers crossed for Boba Fett.

 

Mark Hamill didn't like the overuse of CGI in the prequels. He should be kicked out of Episode VII and have another actors face digitally inserted over his in the Original Trilogy.

 

Yes they do. If he is not enthusiastic about the whole story then get someone who is.
