Thandie is too old to be Rae Sloane now. But she could easily play some other Imperial officer.

 

I know I really wasn't being serious about it as a possibility.

do we actually know Rae Sloane's age?

 

You're right, that was uncalled for.

 

Not that I'm aware of. But whenever she appears in this timeline (pre-ANH), she always comes off as younger to me. Like late 20's to early 30's. Now if this were post-ROTJ Aftermath Sloane, than Thandie would be perfect imo.

 

Wookiepedia has her down as 41 bby. So while TN is indeed a little older especially considering that the solo movie is said to be roughly ten years prior to ANH it wouldn't exactly be unprecedented for an actress over 40 to play a character in her early 30s

That said I don't think there's any real reason to think Sloane would make an appearance in this movie. I don't really see the Kasdans trawling through all the books last king for inspiration. She'll almost certainly be a new character.

 

Sana Starros? Very unlikely.
Lando's mom? Works, but seems too obvious and stereotypical to be true.
Rae Sloane? Possible, but doesn't fit the story.

So yeah, definitely a NEW character. Which is always nice, it gives the writers more freedom to create something unique.

 

Rae Sloane was born in the year 41 BBY timeline wise. If I'm right in putting that with it's real world equivalent (Wookieepedia used to have the real world equivalent to the BBY year in brackets when you looked up but doesn't anymore) then the year she was born in real time was 1936. If you match that up to 0 BBY (which I don't think this movie will take place in but it's the only one I can remember with a real world equivalent because it's said to be 1977 the year Episode IV came out) she'd be 41. So Newton is 44 depending on where this takes place it wouldn't be that out of place to say she's in her late 30s. But again we don't know yet we'll just have to wait and see.

I'd still be interested in seeing either a leading female villain or a secondary female villain who does actually have a role and isn't just background like Phasma was in a film. There are plenty of actresses I've mentioned in the past I would like to see in female roles and anyone of them could play a villain or hero:

Again there's plenty of people I named or haven't named that could pull it off I think and Newton could be one for sure.

 

I guess that depends on how large a presence the Empire will have in this movie, but considering that unlike other cast members (Eherenreich, Glover and maybe Waller-Bridge) who have histories in comedy (Hail Cesaer, Atlanta, Fleabag) Newton does not. So it wouldn't surprise me if she was up for some sort of villainous role.

 

Good. I hope she's a villain. Now they need to cast Sana.

I hope so, I think she would make a great addition! they should get evan rachel wood she is definitely someone I could see in Star Wars.

 

The Empire is going to have to have at least a decent presence in the film since you can't properly depict a criminal underworld without the opposite.

 

Also Han's clearly had run-ins with them before. He knows about Imperial protocols and procedures, and the whole reason why he's in debt to Jabba in ANH is because of the Empire.

Also it just makes sense that when you have a movie centered around criminals/scoundrels/rogues/etc, which Han, Lando, and Woody Harrelson's character (by his own comments) all are, that the main threat to them be someone in a position of authority.

Although I suppose that she could maybe play a powerful crime boss, or an authority figure of a specific planet/system to.

 

Small time crooks vs Gangsters vs a Bank/Casino/Rathar Farm vs the Cops.

The Imperials are the cops, of course.

 

slave leia was great. guess what? thandie newton is completely nude in westworld a lot. many men and women are fully nude because it's a practical part of the show. she's a great actress, she looks great and there's nothing demeaning about her or anyone else being in nude... or being scantily clad in sw.

 

Not in SW though. Also when it isn't overwhelming skewed in one direction, then it'll be more ok, not before.

 

I remember her mainly from her role in ER, many years ago. Wasn't a huge fan of her then, but maybe it was just the character she played that I didn't care for so much.

Come to think of it, Jake Lloyd and Ewan McGregor also had roles on ER, so the ER/SW connection is continuing to grow.
