I don't like it when well-known actors are cast in SW. With Mace Windu, Bail Organa, and K2S0, I'm always looking at them and seeing the other roles they're known for, and trying to spot quirks of the characters I knew. It was especially tough for me to get past that in R1; Tudyk was fantastic in Firefly, Wash was a favorite character, and I was waiting for Wash-isms from K thru the whole film. I'll probably be watching for Cheers-Woody in the Han movie.

 

Like the scene in the asteroid saloon where his character sits down at the grand upright keyboard and sings his ode to Qella.

See I have no problem overlooking it. There actors playing a role, and I'm always aware of that fact. It doesn't matter if they're well-known or not. It doesn't effect by enjoyment of it one way or another.

Also casting recognizable/respected veteran actors in SW has been going on since the beginning. Hello Sir Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing.

Heh! I thought Adam Driver looked a lot like the late Bob Denver, in TFA. But when Kylo Ren took off his mask, I didn't think to myself: "Huh!? Kylo Ren is Gilligan!? "

 

I am looking more forward to this movie mostly because of the cast. Woody playing a criminal mentor has a lot of potential. Donald Glover as Lando too. Really intrigued to see what direction they go with this movie.

 

Could be worse I suppose Woody's in some great films. Just not what I was expecting.

If you asked I wanted to see a Han Solo movie I'd say no, not really, but you asked me if I'd want to see a movie staring the actor who was the best part of "Hail Caesar" plus Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, that Game of Thrones lady and the dudes that directed the Jump Street movies and the Lego Movie I'd say "hell yeah I'll watch that movie."

Though it could turn out to be a fun movie I just wish it was something other than a Han Solo prequel.

 

SW fans need to start creating Woody fan art. Like, now.

 

I'm kinda wondering if he'll be playing a character whose name and mind gets changed to become Lobot. I suppose Woody looks as much like Lobot as Alden looks like Han, though. Their height is close.... Woody is 1" taller than Lobot.

The issue with this idea, is that we don't see interaction between Han and Lobot when he's greeted by Lando in Cloud City. Perhaps Han was merely distracted by Lando and didn't realize who Lobot was, or didn't notice him. Former criminal gets his mind altered and pal Lando hires him to head up the security team.

 

I could see that! Lobot is Woody with a lobotomy. Makes perfect sense.

I doubt he'll be a natural born killer type.

 

The casting is spot on so far. I actually believe this can and will be better than Rogue One. I love Han as a character, no matter who plays him. I predict a lot of scoundrel fun.

 

The movie is nearly two years away, and so far, there are good picks on casting.

 

I've been spoiled by Rogue One, as I think it's going to very, very difficult for any new Star Wars film to top it. But I think the Han movie is going to be a huge amount of fun. If Miller and Lord bring their A game, which I think they will, it simply can't not be fun. My only hope is that they add some depth to the fun, so it doesn't feel like the Avengers, or GotG, just set in the GFFA.

 

Just saw an article that said Woody himself said he is playing Garrish Shrike, a mentor character to Han that was first introduced in the book Paradise Snare.
