Lightsaber Choreography Competition XII Begins!http://sabercomp.com/https://www.facebook.com/lighsaberchoreographycompetitionGet your lightsabers ready! This year's Lightsaber Choreography Competition starts now! For newcomers, this competition is a short lightsaber fight scene highlighting choreography. You are not limited to lightsabers, however, as you may use other weapons in the Star Wars lore such as blasters, lightwhips and yes, force powers. OFFICIAL RULES Entries must be previously unreleased and should not come from a larger project or fan film. The entry must be for this years competition ONLY. There is no time limit for this years competition, but we do recommend keeping it under 10 minutes as it is difficult to have an interesting fight last that long. Remember: keep it tight and lean. More often than not the shorter the better. Challenge every shot and cut you have. Is it effective? Is it excessive? You decide. There is no limit on how many entries you can enter as long as you pay the fee for each entry submitted. Entries are to be uploaded to your personal YouTube account UNLISTED. There is no longer a view limit for your video before the competition begins. ENTRY FEE & PRIZES Starting this year, the LCC will have an entry fee of $15 USD. Which means there will be prizes for all top three entries. You must pay before the entry fee deadline: SEPTEMBER 1st, 2014, if you wish to qualify for first, second or third place prizes. 1st Place wins 60% of the pool 2nd Place wins 30% of the pool 3rd Place wins remaining 10% of the pool *Fee submission information coming soon, check Facebook page or website for more info. **Prizes TBA, check Facebook page or website for more info. This year there will also be six categories of judging that each entry will be up for: Best Sound Editing Best Editing Best Cinematography Best VFX Best Picture These categories are mostly in recognition of the effort entrants put into their entries, giving them bragging rights for their entry's technical achievements. The Best Picture category winner will receive the 1st Place prize, with two runner-ups being announced to win the 2nd and 3rd prizes. JUDGING CRITERIA Judging will be based on four categories: CameraThis is based on your show selection and shot movements. Is your camera another participant in your duel? Is it involved with the fight?EditingThis is based on how you cut the action together. Are you choosing long shots for more tension, or fast cuts for more kinetic energy? PerformanceThis is based on how your actors perform the choreography. Do they seem tentative? Are they confident in their move set?Choreography This is a based on the creativity on the move set itself. Is the choreography interesting, or is it just gratuitous stick-bashing? This year's competition will once again be judged by the popular film commentary podcast,Friends In Your Head. During the live show (Date: TBD), each judge will be using the preferential balloting system to vote: 1st place gets 15 points, 2nd place gets 10 and 3rd place gets 5 points. During final intermission they will review their notes on the entries, tally the votes and announce the winners of this year's LCC. Competition begins Monday, June 2, 2014. Deadline is Monday, September 30, 2014 12:00 AM EST. Use the month of May as a planning month to get everything squared away before you start filming your fights! Good luck this year, and may the force be with you. *Rules and info subject to change, check the website or Facebook page for future revisions.
