    Guess what folks?

I finally got ahold of our contact at the movie theater today. I spoke with them directly.

Points of interest during the conversation:
? Still don't have a definitive answer as to the buffet, but they want it to happen and fully expect it to.
? They ARE interesed in us holding a trivia and costume contest there, but can't confirm when they would be aloow to give the official okay until the word comes from "corporate" (This is a change from what was told to me a couple of weeks ago)
? I told them of the possibility of having a radio station do a satellite broadcast from there and they are interested but would need to speak with the radio station itself. (I'm going to pursue that further)
? They are aware of my interview and are fine with that a well.
? No confirmed pre-sale date for tickets, but we can purchase as a group, just NO group discounts. (I asked) They usually don't allow this for premiere gigs, so this outcome was not unusual.

So, I have a few questions for the group. Now that I've had some real dialog with this person, if they say it's a go on the contests, does anyone want to participate? I could probably do the trivia contest myself, so I'd just need help with the costume contest.

I know this could be a change in plans and though we've voted on it, I thought I should give it one more chance since things are finally heading in the right direction for all of this.

As to the help I would need for the costume contest, I would need you to:
Sign up people looking to be in the contest
Judge (you would be required to do at least one extra duty besides judging)
Take pictures or assist the participants in getting into a good pose for photgraphing. (Either I or Em will probably do the photographing, unless I get someone here who really WANTS to do that.)
Information specialist-you would tell people about the contests and how they will work and where to go to sign up. (this is for both contests)

Pre planning for this can be kept to a minimum, but I would need people to either hit up business to give to the prize pool or to donate items themselves.

I would do all of the graphics to promote the contest, so no worries there.

I can go over these things in finer detail sometime during C3 if you all like or just post them after C3 and we can dicuss it here on the boards.

This is the last one folks, so I hope people will reconsider and help to not only promote our favorite movies, but in affect the group as well.

This would be a great way to bring in new members!

Oh yes, and please, let's hear from EVERYONE. There may be some who would consider helping at this point. I wouldn't need everyone's participation in this, but it would be nice and very helpful. All I ask is that you speak for yourself only if you would like to help.

Thanks, and may the Force be with US!

The toughest thing will be making sure there is something to give away.

I will gladly help with the costume contest if we end up having one.

That's going to be great! I think I don't have any problem by helping in whatever you need (that day). I have a camera so I can take photos too. I also agree that the prizes will be the hardest part. I was wondering, if the theater is the one interested in doing the contest, why they don't give something, maybe free tickets or something else. Eitherway, I can be there (at the theater) all day if you want.

    TICKET TOTAL UPDATED.

Am I correct in saying that the premiere events are the evening of Wednesday, May 18? Just double checking because of the midnight time thing.

    Greetings, blokes.

Fluke... That is correct. Midnite is considered to be part of Wednesday night for movie theater purposes.

Also, in regards to doing up events at the show, I'll go along with whatever the majority seem to want.

    Looking forward to the show,
    Yours Truly

Tickets may go onsale today or very soon. We need to be on the lookout and let me know ASAP. Loews will tell you they don't have info until the end of this month, but as soon as they find out tickets are on sale elsewhere they might start selling them.

If you can't get in touch with me contact someone else who will probably be able to.

Jose, yes, I'm going to hit up the theater for free tickets for the contest. I also have several businesses that I had previously contacted about the contest and a fund raiser I'll be doing specifically there. SO we should have some prizes to hand out. I do ask that if there's a business that you all go to, on a frequent basis, that might be a good candidate for asking to sponser prizes to hit them up. Even something small like a $5 or $10 gift card. Anything that will help to boost the prize pool. Also, anything that you folkd might want to donate as well. Again it can be small, but it must be new or in new condition. (In other words, no loose toys, or used books for example.)

Preferably something to do with ROTS. If we pitch in even just $5 each, we could get a couple of ROTS books as prizes, OR better yet a signed copy of the ROTS novelization!

If we don't have enough in the club fund after C3 (which in all likelyhood we won't, then perhaps those of us going to the book signing, can pitch in and be reimbursed from the club later. Just a thought there.

I really hope everyone gets psyched about this. This is the last movie, let's make it go out with MORE of a bang and with a local flavor!

The idea of the signed copy seems excellent to me!! I think if we all give $3 that will do. And for toys, I think we could do the same, we can give money and buy some figures, to give a "ROTS-toys-package". Or a "ROTS-book-package". But the signed novel it's really great. How many prizes do we need?

Maybe we should take off about $50 from the CII Club funds and use it for the premiere? That would only be about $3 less per person.

Well that would be up to everyone to decide, but I'm up for that.

As for the amount of books/toys, hmm

I wouldn't go wild getting things. At most $50-60 per contest. So that would be about 2-4 books depending on cost and about 10 figures; or a couple of ships and a couple of figures.

When I get whatever the businesses are going to give me for the contests/fund raiser, I'll split those up between the two contest.

So I'd think the trivia contest would get the books. (Obvious the person reads, so they'd have need of them) And the toys for the costume person. Make sense? Or we could just divy up the books and toys.

Well that depends on the kind of contest, I mean, is there going to be categories (kids, adults)? or is just one general category? And how many prizes per category (for the first, second and third place or just the first place)?

Maybe for adults will be better some books, whereas for kids toys (although if I were on the contest probably I'll prefer toys). Or also, there are some activity books for kids.

A mixture might be nice. Or choices for the first and second place with the remaining prize(s) going to third.

A mixture would be great. It all really depends on how many prizes we can come up with. That's the part I need the MOST help with in all of this. So I think tentatively we could say-providing we have enough prizes for the costume contest we will award at least 1st and 2nd in both an adult and children's category. For child, I'd say no older then 15. Oh and SWAP members, regardless if your are participating or not, are not eligible to win prizes. This is kind of our "gift" to the rest of the local SW community.

Also in fairness I think we need to exclude other organized SW groups as well from eligibility. This should be more for the fan who as yet doesn't belong to any kind of a group, like ours and costuming groups (how can the regular fan compete against that), and possibly collecting groups. My thought is that while the costumes should look good, they should also look homemade. For example, I'd love to see a person in a big cardboard box made up to look like a "Gonk" droid. Thoughts?

    Allie
No by all means babble away!. I'm happy to see your excitement for the premiere. And invite as many people as you want/can. That's the whole point of this thing. It's to promote SW, and consequently our group as well.

I'm hoping more people will get more excited as the premiere gets closer and will want to participate.

So let me make the plea again. I need your help folks. We need to round up as many prizes as we can for this. Either the small contribution like Dan suggested and/or a small toy or book from each person (no more then $7) would be more than enough to build up a decent prize pool. And don't forget, you can always hit up you local stores that you shop alot at for gift cards.

You can promise them that their name and/or logo will be displayed along with the announcements for prizes as a contributor. That give them advertising for a very SMALL amount.

(BTW, if you do get a business to commit or they want more info, please PM me with the store name and person to contact and I'll speak with them and explain it in detail.)

I think it could get messy trying to determine who's in a group and who isn't. We know who's in ours - I think we should just exclude ourselves. After all, if we let the public decide, that's fair.

Well, we've still got some time to iron the costume contest out. (no pun intended)

Right now I'm to busy trying to finish things up for c3. (I shouldn't even be online at the moment but wanted to check in)

I think I'm just going to show up and just buy a ticket, hehe. Though I'd like to catch it with ya'll it doesn't really matter. The theater in Delmont that I normally go to is a good one. Anyway. I think it's amusing there's going to be a buffet. I mean. Who is actually going to get out of their seat during this movie? Heh, I dunno, I've never been to a movie that had a buffet, hehe.

    More news!

Should we garner enough prizes for the two contests, the theater wants us to hold the contests in the actual theater, just before the movie.

Basically it will go like this:

    1) Buffet (providing they have one (that's still up in the air)
    2) Line up and enter the theater
    3) Have pre-registered contestants for both contests come to the front of the theater.
We will have the audience judge the costumes. There will only be different age categories or other categories like most creative, show best, etc, if we are able to get enough prizes for each. Otherwise, it's best overall.
If the theater has a microphone (which I'm looking into), then we will ask the questions aloud and have the participants answer aloud for everyone else to hear (ooohh the pressure).

Due to the limited time constraint we will only have 16 contestants for the trivia contest.

We will pit two contestants against each other. They must raise they're hand (yes like school) and be call upon to answer the question. If right they move on, if not the other person gets to answer, and if right, they move on. If not BOTH are eliminated. We will continue this until the second round. Even pairs or triplets depending on how many people get to the second round and on to the third etc, until the last two or three people. Each person in the final round will get three questions each. The person with the most right is the winner. In the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death question and the firts to answer correctly wins.

(Don't worry if it seems convoluted, I did this very thing for AOTC and it worked just fine.)

We should have a way to people's email addresses during the premiere. This will give us the chance to send out group emails and reminders about the website and message board as well as upcoming SWAP events.

Maybe when people come up the stairs to the Loews Lounge for their buffet wrist bands they can have the chance to fill out a slip of paper and enter a drawing to win prizes. Then we could draw some prizes inside the theater before the movie starts.

Fluke... Was there any word from Loew's on Episode III tickets while we were gone?

    Just curious,
