Okay, so here are the positions that need filled for the premiere night:

    Trivia contest:
Ushers (2): I?ll need two people for this. One person will keep the contestants in proper order. The contestants will be divided into two lines. There will be 4 rounds, for which you will be needed for the first 3. Just basically keep them in line for me, until I call for the next two participants. The second usher needed will politely escort the losing contestant away from the area.

Prize holder: For this I need one person who must be very cheerful and can ?show-off? the prizes. Think the ladies on ?The Price Is Right? Nothing to model, but you?ll hold up the certificates, then the main prize when asked for.

?Hand Watcher?: For lack of a better term. This person will be watching to see who raises their hand first when asked a question. You will be the official judge in that respect, so please have sharp eyes and quick reaction...no doubt you?ll get razzed from teh audience if you get it wrong...
I?ll be the host for this contest.

    Costume Contest.
Host: As stated previously, I?d like Dan to do this, since he?s put in a bit of work for this. Should he decline then the offer goes to Zero. I will need to here from the both of you before Sunday May 15. If both decline then it?s up for grabs. I will make a post in this thread and the first person who claims the spot will get to be the host. However I will have discretion on this part if I feel you can do the job or not. Please understand that I want our best effort on this and not someone who could be a joker or not put their best foot forward. remember that you will be representing the club in this, so ou must have a friendly but professional attitude when hosting. Your duties will include speaking loudly (but clearly), unless we have a microphone to use (which I?m still waiting on Loews for that info). Also, you will need to wave your hand over a contestant to signify which one is being voted on currently. we may need to have a toy lightsaber to wave over them, preferably an electronic one that lights up, but a toy one will suffice. (If the host can?t provide this, will someone else?)

Prize holder: For this I need one person who must be very cheerful and can ?show-off? the prizes. Think the ladies on ?The Price Is Right? Nothing to model, but you?ll hold up the certificates, then the main prize when asked for.
Listeners: Again for lack of a better term. The host and prize holder will pull doubl duty for this as well, plus I?ll need another person in addition to them. Your duties will consist of listening to the crowd reaction from the clapping that ensues for a particular contestant. If it is obvious who the winner is fine, but if it?s close then you along with the Host and Prize holder will need to confer on who the best ones were and if need be do a ?clap-off? for the contestants who got the most claps.

At the end of each contest the respective prize holders will come to the front so that the host can take the prizes from them and dole them out the respective winners, accordingly.

Are costumes needed to be a helper in either contest?
No, not neccessary. However if you want to that?s fine. Though I might discourage it more for the costume contest as we don?t want to out shine the contestants...or do we...ha ha ha.

If you have a club t-shirt you can wear that, otherwise, please try to dress nice. At the very least be clean and no dungy clothing. Again you are representing the whole group, no matter what position you have. We want a positive reaction to the group, not someone saying that we look ratty or smell, ha ha.

So to break this down we need:

    Trivia contest:
    ? 2 ushers
    ? Prize holder
    ? ?Hand Watcher?

    Costume Contest
? Host-Dan then Zero have first dibs, then it?s first come first chosen (at my discretion)
    ? Prize holder
? Listener-for which the Host and Prize holder will pull double duty on for this contest

So that?s 6 people total. (possiblity of 7 if Dan or Zero do not want to be the host for the costume contest)

Please PM me with you top 3 choices. With exception to the Host for the costume contest, the rest are on a first requested basis. If you only have one choice, that?s fine.

ONLY PMs will be accepted as requests for this.

Also, if we don?t get enough participation (which I hope so as it?s a small amount of people to ask for), then you may be asked to fill another area. If you are okay with that, please state so in you PM to me, if not, please state that as well. You will NOT be discriminated against if you only want to do one thing.

In general, we need all of you to look out for those in costume and ask them if they would like to be in the contest.
I will be meandering about in the buffet area with a clipboard for interested peoples to sign up for one or the other contest. (They are only allowed to participate in one of the contest) If you find someone interested, please direct them over to me. If the alotted slots ahve not been filled, I will add them to the list. This is more critical with the Trivia contest than the costume contest, as there are only 16 slots available. I?d prefer to only have 16 in the costume contest as well, but we may or may not have that many or more, so we?ll play that by ear.

For the costume contest there will be prizes awarded to:
    Best in show:
Host?s choice: Use whatever criteria you want, but please try to be fair. In other words, please don?t pick someone with overalls, a hat and a toy bantha who calls himself a Nerfherder, for instance. Not like we?d see that anyway...ha ha
    Best Child costume (if applicable)

For the trivia contest there will be prizes awarded to first and second place.

Sorry this is so technical folks.

Any further questions, please feel free to post them. I will answer them as quickly as possible.

I will be the prize holder... oh wait... "cheerful"... nevermind.

If zero wants to host the costume contest then that will be ok with me. In fact, I would rather that be the case.

One thing about the contest is we should have the right to not allow someone to participate just incase they have a really bad costume that could somehow get the most cheers.

Sending you a couple of ideas for other stuff now Sal..

I agree on the point about the costumes.

Since this is a family oriented group, we can't allow possibly offensive costumes to be entered.

During a talk with the management at Loews, they said that they would start letting into the theater at 11:00.

Thanks for the information. By "theater", I assume you mean the actual room with the movie screen, and not the whole building.

I am not particular about what I do so I'll leave that open; just know that I will help however is needed.

I am planning to dress as Luminara, BTW. I hope Allie is planning to dress as Barris. If costumers are involved with the contest, it will be obvious why we are not competing in it.

Even if someone else hosts contests (which is fine with me, BTW), I could fill the position of "loudmouth" if need be. If there is no mic available, my voice can carry quite a bit.

Not only can my voice be loud, it can be easily understood. I have experience working at McDonald's drive through, where drivers would often ask if we got a new speaker system because I was so easy to understand. In my current job, I page over a loudspeaker system in a building with metal walls and noisy machines. It's not just volume that's important, it's enunciation.

Just something I'm putting out there if you need it.

Sure, I'll host the costume contest. I don't think I can screw it up that bad :D
As far as timing goes, I know that they said they will start letting people into the theatre at 11, but do we know when they will let people up to the buffet area? 11 also? Or earlier? And even if they do let people in the theatre at 11, I think it'll still take 15-20 min for people to get in there, cutting our time relatively in half. Is there anyway to possibly start the trivia contest early, and do the finals inside? I really don't think there is anyway to make sure everyone is inside by 11. People will be milling around, even with our contests going on. Did Lowes specifically say for us to hold our contests inside the theatre? Or maybe there is an area out by the buffet that we can do this at, while people are eating?

I think the buffet will start at 10pm. I also believe that Lisa from Loews would like the costume contest inside of the theater auditorium where the movie is playing. Not sure about the costume contest though. It might be kind of difficult to conduct that in the club area with all of those people around unless we can partition a small area off from the rest.

    Here's the schedule folks

    10:00 p.m. Buffet
11:00 p.m. Theater let in for seating
    11:20 p.m. Trivia Contest.
    11:40 p.m. Costume Contest
    12:01 p.m. Premiere

The Trivia contest should only take 20 minutes. Remember I've done this before. Besides that's why I'm doing that one first, to allow for extra time, if neccessary. The costume contest will go very quickly. So 20 minutes shouldn't be needed for that.

    Don't worry, it'll work. Just act casually....hey, it's me...ha ha

If I see that it's taking too long for the trivia contest, I have a contingency plan to speed it up.

    All is good.

Yeah, that did kinda work out nicely, since he's the one donating the vader mini saber and is getting the $25 Hot Topic gift certificate. His Pink hair and easy going style will lend itself nicely to the contest.

Oh and Bonnie, we may just make use of your voice talents yet. I had ofrgotten that since you sing and have done stage (IIRC) that you (general you not you specifically Bonnie) have to have a booming voice that projects in an articulate manner.

    Trivia contest:
    ? Host: Sal
? 2 ushers: Brian (You will keep people in line and direct them to me. Josh you will escort the losers away from the contest area.
? Prize holder: Bonnie and tentatively Allie (as Luminara and Barris!! How cool is that?
    ? ?Hand Watcher?: Unclaimed

    Costume Contest
    ? Host-Zero
? Prize holder: Bonnie and Allie again (our "Vanna White's" of the evening-to put it in Bonnie's words, ha ha)
    ? Listener: Unclaimed

Okay, so Dan has said he'd help and IIRC, Chris (GC) too.

If it's okay with everyone else, I'm going to assign the two unclaimed spots for them.

Dan, you'll be the "Hand Watcher," and Chris you'll be the "Listener."

In case someone is unable to fulfill their duties for whatever reason, I'd like to have two alternates that would be willing to fill in wherever needed.

    Thanks again folks.

it's going to be a blast! And we will have helped to make more memories for other fans, besides ourselves!

    Can you believe it's only:
6 days, 10 hours and 8 minutes as of this posting til the movie???

whatever task you want to assign me, I don't care. I'll be in my Padme velvet TPM battledress.

I am a little concerned about the time issue, of getting both contests done in 40 minutes (including getting the Trivia contestents lined up, clearing out the first set of contestents and getting the second set for the Costume contest lined up, giving out the prizes, mentioning our sponsors, indetifying ourselves as SWAP and thanking Loews). The last thing we want to do is hold up the start of the movie. That would not win us any friends.

Zero had a good idea of doing the early rounds of the trivia contest out in the buffet area (maybe over to the side, if you went right of the bar rather than left of the bar where the buffet tables are). And then take the top 6 players inside and have them compete in front of the audience for the top 3 spots.

Good idea about the trivia contest, but the top 6 wouldn't work as well as the top 4. The tow losers from the semi finals can challenge off for third place.

    Greetings, blokes.

Chris... Psssst... *whispers* Even though it's not bolded above, he said you get to be the "Listener." :)

Also, in regards to timing, I suggest we hussle as quick we can without rushing. Delay = bad mojo. ;)

Sal also slated 20 minutes for people getting in the theater, and that might be a bit of a high estimate, too. The folks that care about the contests will be in the theater quick, I'm sure. :)

I'm not overly concerned about it, but we definitely need to keep an eye on the time. I'll try not to be any edgier than I would normally be at the Premiere of a brand new Star Wars flick. Which is to say very edgy. :p

    Likes good mojo,

Okay, let me state all of this for the record for the FINAL time:

These times are NOT up for discussion. This is what has been alotted to us by Loews. We either get in done then or not at all. And I'm NOT giving it up now. Not after all of the work I as well as some others have put into it.

Again, I've done this before. I KNOW how long it takes and we WILL have plenty of time.

We cannot, and indeed are not allowed to, have this is the buffet area.

Here's a good run down of the times so everyone can see things much more clearly:

11:20 Line up the contestants in two rows of eight.
one question is asked for the first two people. The person who first raises there hand and gets it right moves on, If they get it wrong and the other person gets it right then they move on instead. Time for each question 1 minute (or less) since there will be eight pairings for the first round, four pairings for the second round, that will take 12 minutes, leaving wholly eight minutes for the last two people who wil be asked three alternating questions. total time for last round 6 minutes.

As to moving people out, that is the job or the usher. He (Josh) will direct them away from the contest area and that losing contestant can then go back to their seat.

Prizes will ALREADY be seperated into first and second place. So the prize holder will come to the front, hand me the second place prizes and I'll award them to the second place finisher, then same for the first place. No more than 2 minutes. Total time of the trivia contest 20 minutes (AS I've been saying from the beginning) Where did people get the idea that there was going to be a Third place??? I made it clear in the above posts that there will only be two winners for the trivia.

Contingency plan: If after the first round it is taking too long, I will simply ask a question. Whomever answers first moves on, but if they get it wrong then the other person by default will move on. So it will be critical of them to answer right.

11:40 Costume contest: Have contestants line up. Tell the audience the rules (clap for the one you want). No more than 4 minutes tops. The host (Zero) will briefly wave a hand (or Lightsaber) over each contestant long enought to here the claps (listener take note of the loudness if conferring is needed later) total time will depend on amount of contestants, but the hand or saber over the head of each should be no more than 10 seconds. If that seems short then literally count it out to yourself and you will see that it is not. So even if we were to have 24 contestants, the total time for hand over heads is 4 minutes!

Confer if needed between the host, prize holders and listener if claps were close then have a clap-off for the top vote getters. If there is a clear winner though, prizes will be awarded immediately. Again the prizes will ALREADY be seperated into Best of show
    Host's Choice
    Best Child's costume (if applicable)

If a clap-off ensues, this will most likely only be between 2-3 people so it will be quick. Total time for costume contest-NO MORE than 15 minutes. This gives us a couple extra minutes in case we need them for the trivia contest.

11:55 Both contests are done with contestants and SWAP members having enough time to get back to their seats.

    Is it close?
Yes, but I am FULLY confident we can get this done in the time allotted.

Would I have liked more time?
Sure, but I am not in control of theater operations. We must work with them.

Is that spelled out enough for everyone?

No more ideas will be taken about the operation of the contests.

    Oh ye of little faith...
    -Sal

    Might I make 2 suggestions.
    1. If someone is in the trivia contest, they can not be in the costume contest, and vice versa.
    2. We line up the costume contest contestants along the right wall of the theater during or even before the trivia contest. When it's over, we can walk them right along the aisle to the front of the theater.

Thanks for bringing those up, Zero. I actually already have the poster that we are putting up in the theater nearly designed and it states that a person can only be a contestant in one or the other, not both.

Also, I had figured that we would have the costume contestants lined up anyway, but it might be unfair to make them wait 20 minutes standing, while we finish the trivia contest. (We'll play that one by ear, but if it seems that we are running low on time, I'll put a call out for the costume contestants to start making their way towards the front, while we are finishing the trivia contest.

    Fair enough?

    Hi everyone!!

Sorry for not being so participant lately I just returned from my trip to NY (which was awesome).

I had to read ALL your posts to understand what's going on. It seems really good all that has been done, great job!

    Sal:

I think you have the needed prizes, so if you want I can give $10 for the charity.

    Everyone:

I have a problem (well not me, my roomate), he is going to a congress in Lousiana and he won't be able to attend the premiere so if you know of someone who might be interested in the ticket please let me know. My roomate is coming back that night but is almost impossible he could make it. So if you know of someone let me know.

Did you watch the new TV ad? it's amazing! I can't wait to watch the movie!!

Hidai... If memory serves, Fluke said there was someone interested in the tickets, if anyone had to bail. Here's to hoping there's still interest there, so you aren't out 25 clams. :(
