Force Smuggler: so it seems doesn't it? also seems like unnecessary pandering to me

Darth Eddie: TCW did have an internal continuity, and for better or worse, never really tried to expand the expanded universe.

by series 3 I strongly disagree with your statement :p

Well yeah... considering he created the damn thing it kind of makes sense that what the creator says goes versus a novelist hired to write a book in that universe.
    ---------

from what I understand Lucas was a "creative consultant" in movie business that just means "yeah, ok, I agree, whatever put that in" for the most part, it does not mean he spent the whole time creating stories for it, that was Filoni and co.

TCW will always be considered canon since it came directly from Lucas.

Thanks, Dave and the LFL story group, for taking my beloved Star Wars and smashing it into the ground.

"He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align."

No, actually quite a few episodes were stories handed down (written) by Lucas and passed off to a screenwriter. Filoni and Christian Taylor have spoken quite frequently about Lucas kicking off writing for each season with a writers meeting in which he laid down the stories he wanted to see, and to make sure writers were on the same page with him. That's pretty common knowledge.

Following Star Wars: A New Dawn, the all-new Star Wars fiction line will continue with the following 2014/2015 titles:

    STAR WARS: TARKIN
    James Luceno
    11/4/14

STAR WARS: HEIR TO THE JEDI
    Kevin Hearne
    January 2015

STAR WARS: LORDS OF THE SITH
    Paul Kemp
    March 2015
    HMMMMMMMMMM, let the speculation begin!

If that's what you want to hold on to, I'm happy the new debate is over assumptions and speculation and not facts.

I can only see them changing their minds if they want to reboot TCW era. And that just means new Clone Wars canon, not no canon at all.

The trend of distancing from the PT towards the OT is becoming more evident (which makes sense as VII is a sequel to Jedi). Everything on the OS and seen in those Disney merchandise releases his geared towards the OT. Probably serves a dual purpose - making sure the younger fans are up to speed by the time VII comes around and to appeal to those less enamoured with the PT.

I'm honestly okay with that. I love the EU, but admit it, it was an absolute mess with the whole TWC timeline and all the different retcons. Rebooting it may have its perks.

    So new canon is
    1- TPM
    2-AOTC
    3-TCW
    4-ROTS
    5-A new dawn/Rebels
    6- Original Trilogy
    7- ST

common knowledge for who? world leaders? the executives at McDonalds? no, "common knowledge amongst people who enjoy TCW "would be more an accurate statement, anyway semantics aside that just means that Lucas is really out of touch more than I thought he was on the whole thing.

And before I get accused of Lucas bashing, I'll withdraw from thread before it escalates that far

    yup he created Star Wars

and of course he Executive Produced it,

that doesn't mean he was there every day at the studio making every single episode.

Good. Should have done this years ago, IMO. So the “new” EU is completely canon, then?

It makes sense that the former EU is rendered obsolete. It also makes sense that Star Wars novels going forward are consistent with the new trilogy. However, how much about the new trilogy are these authors made aware of? Do these new books take place in the 30 years between ROTJ and the ST?
