A major complaint I see with Rebels is a lack of violence. Sex is an obvious no-go for Star Wars.

If you think about it, the tone in Rebels really isn't that much different from TCW. It's just we don't see limbs getting cut off in Rebels like we did in TCW, and that's what gives people the excuse to call it a kiddie show since its censored. That doesn't bother me though, implied violence is still violence. Aresko and Grint still got their heads removed from their bodies just like the leaders of the Black Sun did, we just didn't see it...but it happened.

I also suppose it doesn't help that many people see the art style as a typical Disney paintjob, too.

But ultimately, it's arguable that people's only judgment in whether Rebels is mature or not is how many limbs are flying.

Was it consensual missionary for the sole purpose of procreation? Because that really grinds my gears and is not something I would like to see on TV.

Game of Thrones is not just sex, there is sex without marriage, sadomasochism & rape(male on male or male on female) and there is incest , and other moral and ethical depravity.

I don't think Rebels is weak because of its lightheartness, on the contrary is close to Lucas's SW and it should remain so, however its problems lie more in its execution and failure to properly be restrained, and its failure to find the balance of what exactly they're looking to replicate. As most of their antics are falling into slapstick and buffoonery and losing sense of being grounded in some kinda reality. Maybe one can argue they're coping Lucas's later works with the PT and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, where they're complete messes and contradictions compared to the older films or even Willow(and the Ewok movies which is to me is good SW) which is closer to the tone of the OT and the first three Indiana Jones movies.

Depth and gravity likewise is not a weakness. I don't want something like GoT and people insisting/implying I do any time I speak for 'seriousness' clearly don't really pay attention to the tone of my posts. I don't care for 'hahhahaha'! content. It is dull and stupid to me. Those that do, great. I like to *think*. I like to dream and ponder. I am not trying to ruin other's enjoyment yet I am entitled to voice a differing stance and as I have said MANY times treating war like a game is dangerous.

Eh, nobody said you were not entitled to a different stance. Nobody even commented on your different stance, other than to ask you questions about why you hold it. Which people are also entitled to do.

But you can't bog the show down with needlessly convoluted philosophical plotlines. You're catering to a very specific niche market who will most likely not be interested in watching it anyway since it'd be beneath their massive intellects. There are far better options out there if that's what you want from a TV show.

Remember folks, family friendly site. :)

Also if TCW and Rebels are kiddie, then the other 90% of Disney XD's lineup is what, for babies? I mean, I guess one could argue these shows are kiddie compared to the rest of SW media, but that's a pretty thin argument when you have things like a reprogrammed B1 battle droid covered in bones in an "adult" novel and a WOOKIEE VS WOOKIEE fist fight in an "adult" comic.

Asking for a SW work to be real and mature is like, to use a GOT analogy, asking to see Jaime Lannister walk into the room and slip on a banana peel. I mean let's examine the most "mature" SW movie, Empire Strikes Back. Our Hero receives life lessons from a talking frog who initially pretended to be a crazy hobo, and then the other heroes' droid gets blown apart and spends the rest of the movie complaining about his disheveled appearance.

Sure, there's room for deeper issues and events but there'll always be a bit of silliness and absurdity in SW. That's what makes it pulp fiction. We can see Ezra struggling with complex moral quandaries in relation to the different sides of the Force, but we can also see his wacky hijinks with HONDO. That's what SW is all about really, having fun while also not forgetting the gravity of a world at war.
See, CA, no one's actually saying that. Enjoying lightheartedness does not equal shunning seriousness. Star Wars has always struck a delicate balance between the two. Look at ANH- Luke takes absolute glee fighting off TIEs, forgetting the fact that he's killing soldiers who had lives of their own before they crossed his path. But then later he fully understands the seriousness of war when his best friend Biggs dies defending him.

Really, nobody wants just one or the other, they want balance. And I don't just say that because balance is a key part of SW, but it's also a key part of real life too. We all have to deal with duality of some kind. Rebels tries to keep that fun atmosphere while also remembering the gravity of certain situations. Does it succeed at maintaining that balance? I'd say so, most of the time at least.

First off you can't class Sex without marriage as the rest. It's quite normal and certainly not a sin.

Well Starwars has come close to some of those things though, we've had Luke and Leia for Incest, The sadomasochism and if not rape certainly sexual assaults by Jabba on both Leia and Moola, who he feeds to the rancor. Even in the in TCW with Ahsoka in the Zagarians hints at sexual slavery. The way the Queen was slapping her bum, well that was really not for kiddies in jmo.
Regards ethical depravity, well Han Solo is a drug runner, and Anakin has killed Younglings or what we call children in the real world. The Jedi (Guardians of Peace and Justice who aren't bothered by slavery at all) could be classed as religious fanatics who were attempting a Military coup.
While Pappa Palpatine openly gets off on people hating him :p

Instead of Game of Thrones maybe it's best to compare it to ROME (now that was a good show that ended too soon). As the fall of the Republic in Starwars, was certainly based on the real life Rome and how it turned from Republic to Empire.

Well it is my religion. The Bible undeniably does condemn adultery and sexual immorality which sexual intercourse before marriage does fall into.

    http://www.catholic.com/quickquesti...-as-long-as-it-reflects-a-loving-relationship

Besides, most of the sex on the GOT show is without even a commitment of marriage or any actual love between the two and that kinda sex often used on the show(when there is no rape or implied rape) is mainly born out've drunkenness, ambition, , prostitution(including little children), lust and debauchery or even witchcraft . It is sexual immorality. We know sexually-transmitted diseases, unintended pregnancy and all the emotional pain are too often the price paid for sexual activity without marriage. Plus womanizing, whoring, and philandering in general(whether male or female) is anti-social and unethical behavior. The show is fictional and wants an audience and one of the ways to do that now is nudity and sex - its very much softcore porn at the base, like the fictional TV series Rome was.

With Padme and Anakin, they courted some, and got married in the same movie and she later became pregnant in the next. I think that was one of the things done right despite the scripts being very weak and acting often reflecting the writing and direction. Unfortunately though Anakin was a nutjob and he was unable to fully control himself(temper) the Force and his own ambitions, plus he should've stepped down once he broke the Jedi rule and betrayed the oath and lived a lie that eventually cost many many people their lives and his own evil almost led him to murdering his own wife and unborn. But a traditional romance and marriage is key for the young audience, as is promotion of abstinence. Some characters, like people of opposite sexes, can form an intimate companionship or relationship that is absent of sexual involvement perhaps like Ezra and Sabine.

That may be your belief my friend but that doesn't make it so. I certainly don't subscribe to that view. Nor do I consider people I know who live together and aren't married as immoral

Does marriage lead to happier, healthier sex lives? A search on Google throws up hundreds if not thousands of posts from married couples who have lost the spark. There's also a lot of spousal abuse and really shady practices in world religions with regards to forced marriages and punishing those who refuse (or are perceived as refusing) to comply - that doesn't seem to be very moral to me. Marriage is just a piece of paper and I reject the notion that it is moral or necessary to allow for positive sex or a loving relationship. If you need a certificate to justify your relationship and demonstrate how much you love your partner, it's clearly not working out.

Also, spousal rape is a real thing and is now a criminal offence in pretty much every civilised country. Who knows if Luke and Leia's conception was consensual. In the TCW episodes with Rush Clovis, Anakin was shown repeatedly as trying to control Padme and limit her freedom. Doesn't seem like a very happy marriage to me.

No, it doesn't, not among people who did not already have a happy and healthy sex life to begin with, and there are also stories about people, women in particular, who have been taught their entire lives that sex is "dirty" or "wrong" before the wedding night and are not able to magically flip the switch on the honeymoon night and start believing it's acceptable and beautiful. There are also people who get married way the hell too young because they believe they have to so that they can have sex. And sex outside of marriage in modern times does not have the disastrous consequences outlined above. Many of us do not catch diseases or get pregnant without planning to.

It's morally better for two unmarried people to have a consensual sexual relationship in which they are both happy than have people constrained by arbitrary rules designed to control what they do in the bedroom. And I would rather see the former in Star Wars than the latter.

There are also some people in some religous groups in the US who believe spousal rape cannot be a thing, because the woman's body belongs to the man and he is entitled to use it as he pleases. Don't want THAT dynamic in Star Wars either.

Personally I think Luke and Leia's conception was consensual, I don't think Anakin got controlling until ROTS, but then again I did not like the Rush Clovis episodes or Rush Clovis himself. That said though, given how it ended, I would not prop up Anakin and Padme's relationship as the healthiest in Star Wars by any stretch of the imagination. And if they were given the opportunity prior, I seriously doubt that they waited until their wedding night to have sex anyway.

Also, especially after reading A New Dawn, I'd be willing to bet money on the idea that Kanan and Hera had a bedroom on the Ghost and had had that bedroom from the first time Kanan set foot on it.

As interesting as this discussion has been, I'd rather we steer away from this more personal stuff like religion and opinions on consensual relationships, m'kay?

    Kanan is no romeo.
