It sounds weird from like an out of context mention (a lot like some TCW stuff) but it really worked when reading and experiencing it first hand.

 

I want to see civilian points of view. Who is the face of the Empire to them? What do they think of the Empire? What does the Empire tell them?

 

darklordoftech: Absolutely! I'm really interested to see the public's impression of Vader (if he's ever seen in "public" at all). Something tells me Tarkin may be at least the public face of the military arm of the Empire, although I'm not sure what his official role will be at this time. Leia definitely knows of his exploits by the time of ANH.

 

I also want to know who the public face of the non-military arm of the Empire is.

 

We talking Children of the Jedi or No Prisoners here? 'Cause hell if anything in COTJ made any sense.

Think we'll get any kinda information dump for Christmas?

 

I sent people out to look through the information dump but they can't find anything of importance in all that rubbish.

 

Is it possible that the dissolution of the Senate is what turned the core worlds against the Empire?

 

that doesn't happen until ANH though

 

He's a 7 foot tall man dressed in black with a breathing mask, he's kinda hard to miss

besides "Darth Vader, only you could be so bold" defo sounds like Vader's made a bit of a name for himself, besides which the other imperials seem to despise him

 

I know. I was speculating based Hidalgo's comments about support for the Empire among the core worlds during Rebels.

 

In other words they are gonna do what Lucas should have done in the prequels in showing how Palpatine won support for the Empire

 

In Rebels, I hope we see an episode where Tarkin serves Spaghetti Tuesdays on Wednesdays

 

What I really want to see is how Palpatine lost support for the Empire.

 

It will be interesting to see how they play this out. Before Lucas started making all kinds of changes to the OT the story did not extend really at all outside of the small little arena we were shown. When he did start making changes the only image we have is that very short clip from Coruscant where fire crackers are going off.

Is that short little clip enough evidence to say that a large part of the galaxy was against the Empire at that point?

 

I would say yes because The Making of ROTJ says that they wanted to show the end of the Empire being celebrated all around the galaxy.

 

Course the battle of Endor wasn't the end of the Empire.

It was the beginning of the end though. Palps was so focused on living and ruling forever via his clones that he never instituted any succession procedure. So when he died the thing disintigrated into a mess with moffs and admirals power-struggling. Many of them set themselves up as warlords over their own sectors. When Thrawn came back he sort of turned it around for a while... until he was killed, and the whole thing mostly went to hell again. But all said, it was over a decade after Palpatine's death before the last vestiges of the Galactic Empire died.

I'm not sure what the people on the various planets at the end of RoTJ were celebrating - fall of the empire? Death of the emperor? Or when this celebration was... was it right after Endor or some years later? It's kinda presented with no context so there's nothing concrete that be gleaned from it I think.

 

In movie canon, the Battle of Endor was the end of the Empire

 

Exactly. The novelization justifies it as well, Thrawn be damned.
