Full Series Official Star Wars Rebels Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

And just to note.. for the girl characters, the outfits are a nice improvement from stuff in TCW.

 

Ah yup. That outfit of Ashoka is actually the starting cause of my dislike for her back before the Clone Wars started.

Oh and quick warning to all, be careful in the Rebels tags on Tumblr, there's already at least one piece of adult art of Sabine.

Though it's not badly drawn, it surprises me how most of the fan art for Rebels out so far is so good, especially this soon. Sabine already has at least 5 amazing pieces of Fan art.

 

Hera, Chopper and Zeb are the three that sound most interesting to me of the cast. I'm kind of indifferent to Kanan thus far. Sabine I am hoping to like. I have a hunch that Ezra is going to be my least favorite, and I feel like they spent too much time highlighting what Sabine does that makes her different, with no real indication as to what her personality is like or how she'll relate to other characters. So, she's kind of up in the air.

Ezra: Trouble maker. Wants to stick it to the Empire, but isn't exactly selfless. Initially kind of an outcast among the Ghost's crew.

Zeb: Begins to look after Ezra and helps bring Ezra into the group. Likes to fight and takes the most direct course. Hates Chopper.

Chopper: Hates being told what to do. Deep down means well, but does things his way and in his own time.

Kanan: Jedi in hiding. Leader of the group. Begins to relearn what it means to be a Jedi.

Hera: Owner of The Ghost. No non-sense, but understanding. The "glue" that holds the group together when they otherwise might fall apart. Knows how to talk to each member and appeal to their needs.

Sabine: ...Grafitti artist... Likes to blow stuff up...

It tells me what she does, but not what she's like or how she fits into the group.

 

Now that we've all of the Rebels on the show, I can comfortably say that I'm really looking forward to Kanan, Zeb and Sabine. I wasn't too interested in Hera before, but knowing that she's their leader makes me interested. I want to like Ezra and Chopper, but I feel like their videos didn't actually do anything for me.

 

I want Petro to try to stand up to Vader and ultimately fail.

 

Is Ezra like the least-favorite so far? Notice he was highlighted a while ago but is the only one without a thread. lol

 

I'm not so worried about Ezra, because I always did a pretty good job at ignoring Luke and still being a huge Star Wars fan...

 

I want them to be best friends.

I never cease to be amazed by the fandom's ability to whip up porn of a character mere hours after their announcement.

It's an interesting fan resource that I'm sure will be viewed and consulted repeatedly by a number of posters on the board as Rebels takes off. Appreciate the effort, SabineFett.

I like all of the characters so far, but here's my current order of Like (Scale from 1-10):

Kanan (10): This is the kind of Jedi I've always wanted to see. I've also always wanted to see what life would be like for a survivor of Order 66 (not Yoda or Kenobi). SW is about many things, but first and foremost it's about the Force and the struggle between the light and darkside. I've always disliked the idea that this period should have no Force users. I chalk this up to people being sick of the kind of Jedi we were given in the PT and TCW. I really hope his arc is not to become a Stoic.

Sabine (10): I like Mandos. I hated the binary way they were portrayed on TCW, so Sabine is a breath of fresh air. I dig her artsy side and how she seems a real voice of resistance. I also like how she's deconstructing the gender essentialism of the color pink. I also believe she's related somehow to Satine. Her and Kanan are tied for my favorite two so far.

Zeb (9): I dig the look and the mixed personality of a warrior and an intellectual, which contains a lot of potential interesting contradictions. I have a feeling his backstory is going to be a gut punch (what happened to his people).

Hera (7): I'm slightly burnt out on Twi'leks, although I'm very happy she is not being portrayed in the usual way as a sex object. I like that she's a pilot and matriarch figure, but I'm waiting to see if she'll be more interesting than the heart and moral vision of the group.

Ezra (7): He seems to have the room for the largest character arc since he's the youngest, so maybe I'll be more interested in him as time goes on. I like how he collects Stormtrooper helmets a lot, but I need to know more about his background.

Chopper (7): Just how different is a cat R2 from a dog R2? I love cats, so I have feeling Chopper's going to give them a bad name. He's going to have to be a real **** to be a star. Hopefully they really go with the ****ishness.

 

I love that you gave Sabine a 10, that's great that people are already giving her such love even with what little we know about her. But, it's actually not pink, if you look closely in some of the images, its more of a maroon color. The more you know. lol.

 

I really want to see more Jedi than just Kanan.

PS, if there is any romance in this series I say Zeb and Hera.

 

Hah, the Rebels are a perfect sentai teams right down to three dudes and two gals. Then we got the Alpha-esque robot sidekick. Hello green Twi'lek Gadget! Hera looks cool but I'm feeling meh about the character. I'm getting the crazy female pilot/ inventor/ mechanic vibe from her. I don't have anything against Ezra myself, I think alot of people are just wary of tween characters and getting a kid sidekick vibe from him. I can hear Yoda sayin', "Wary of the trope you should be." But not always master. I got another Disney comparison for you. Kit Cloudkicker who had a similar background in his show.

 

I kinda wanna see Starkiller. Sure it's up in the air if he still exists. But then, the Force Unleashed characters are some of the few EU characters still allowed to be made in toy form, so their most be some reason for that.

 

Well, there's some pink, no? If not, there should be.

Either way, she doesn't look like your typical warrior, and I love that.

 

I'm more of a "cat person" and love cats. But I know what stereotype Filoni is trying to evoke by calling Chopper a "cat."

There seems to be the stereotype for some that a "cat personality" consists of a grumpy animal that wants to be left alone, does what it wants and is not at all obedient. Cats tend to have the stereotype that they are more mischievious and reclusive while dogs are more happy-go-lucky and eager to please.

And while in my experience, those stereotypes depend heavily on the animal and how it was raised (I've seen spoiled disobedient dogs and very, very friendly cats), I still get what Filoni is trying to say.

R2 wants to help out, he's loyal, he pretty much wants to be where his master is.

Chopper looks like he's being billed as disobedient, lazy, anti-social and stubborn.

 

I think I'm the most suspicious of him just because of his age along with all the challenges of war he's guaranteed to face, that's stereotypically that is a recipe for an emo kid protagonist. For Boba, that worked very well because I already knew that rough journey would lead to an incredible bounty hunter. But nobody knows how Ezra's character is going to eventually develop in the end, or even his personality in the first place.

As long as nobody becomes another Lux Bonteri (And the original Lux is long forgotten & sealed away in the ancient ruins of Korriban never to escape) I'm good.

 

It would be cool if to contrast Chopper's usual grumpy cat personality, we see him befriend a specific character, be all sweet and make a purring noise. Show the other personality aspects of cats.

(I'm a cat person too . . .)

In the screenshots of Sabine in sure does look like her right cup is pink. I wouldn't mind pink myself. One can be plenty tough and wear hot pink. I think the scariest thing about her is when I think of how much she resembles a really annoying character from another animated series.

 

It needs to be Hera. Because Mommy Character + Cat.
