This is not about what the audience thinks of Hera's crew. It's about the verifiable evidence of the damage they've done to the Empire. I've made a small list above. That list doesn't represent what the audience thinks they've done. It's what they've actually done on screen. If the Empire somehow treats a rap sheet of that scale as "small time", then the Empire's got much bigger issues apparently.

I disagree they are intertwined. It doesn't mean the Imperials have to be all 'oh wow!' :p

Competent and skillfull isn't how I would describe the ghost crew, stumbling into victories is how I would call it. Regardless of your list, they are just five people in a small ship. Five Star Destroyers is enough safety precautions in almost any scenario, but of course that doesn't stop the writers from writing illogical plots in which the crew wins regardless.

C-3PO: "The odds of successfully surviving an attack on an Imperial Star Destroyer are approximately..."
    Leia: "Shut up!"

A Star Destroyer can deploy fighters whenever necessary. Also **** the logic in this show. How is it even possible to board an imperial Star Destroyer that easily? Only because the writers don't care about consistency. Can't blame Tarkin for treating a small ship like a small ship and a Star Destroyer like a real Star Wars Star Destroyer and not the made out of paper rebels version.

It's both a contrivance that the engine room was
    a) right there, an SD is kilometers long
    b) Inky was dominating the fight and inexplicably steering it to the engine room
c)Oh yes the flight path of those two sabers

Sorry, as it is written the crew won only by the dumbest luck possible, which is why I hate the finale and don't get all the rave reviews, there were better episodes in this season.

I seriously don't get why these contrivances are such a big issue. There's always been contrivances in Star Wars. A New Hope with the hole on the Death Star is a big one. Star Wars isn't supposed to be the extremely well thought out story with everything making the upmost logical sense.

On the note of the finale getting such rave reviews, I'm going to give you 3 things why.
-Cool Lightsaber fight with the Inquisitor and dual lightsaber Kanan.
    -Ahsoka returns
    -Darth Vader arrives

Ah, so throwing in fan favorite characters is enough? Is Darth Vader strolling off a ship like in ROTJ good writing?

The saber fight is hurt by the ending. The series makers didn't have the balls to make Kanan off Inky, so they've given him an easy way out, Inky kills himself. No serious moral questions here. There's also the part about "is Ezra really dead" that I didn't enjoy because obviously he's okay, I'm not stupid enough to think he's not.

    This read made me laugh:
    http://darth.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_Rebels

The Death Star's flaw was set-up masterfully which is why the audience could buy into it. When was any rebels victory in the show ever set up as well? Never, that's the answer.

Tarkin doesn't travel around the Empire dealing with common criminals. The whole point of Tarkin coming to Lothal in the first place was not to deal with "five normal beings", but to deal with an exceptional insurgency that had been wrecking imperial hardware on a routine basis. It doesn't matter if, as the audience, we see their victories as contrived or not. Tarkin doesn't; he is well aware of the damage they can cause. They've infiltrated star destroyers before and he even seems to expect them to try to infiltrate this ship as well. Is Tarkin underestimating Hera's crew? Is he unconcerned about the damage they could inflict once aboard? Or is he trying to lure them into a trap and capture them? In any of the cases, it is a terrible mistake on his part.

You're missing the point. It doesn't matter if it's five star destroyers or five thousand. If you don't establish better security protocols to screen ships incoming to the fleet, then what good is having all those extra destroyers? Aside from their strormtrooper complement, those ships are largely useless once the Moff's ship has been boarded. The same way that a carrier's destroyer and frigate escorts are useless if some guys sneak a RHIB through the screening force and slip aboard the carrier.

YT-1300 vs. Star Destroyer, in a direct assault, in space. Also, remember that Han stuck himself to the side of an ISD as well. If he had a lightsaber or other hull-cutting tool available, he probably could have boarded that ISD also. I hadn't thought about Han's little trick. Thank you for assisting my argument.

The time needed to deploy TIEs is irrelevant. If they're not in space and conducting visual inspections of incoming vessels, what good is the fact that they can be launched at a moment's notice? The only time they can intervene is to prevent a escape, which is what I think Tarkin intended all along.

How is it even possible to board all the ships that got boarded in TCW? I mean, it's not like what Hera's crew did was somehow unique to the Star Wars universe. Hell, even Padme was sneaking around the Malevolent with Golden Rod and his big mouth in tow. That was an impressive feat not to get caught immediately.

Negative. Again, Inky confronted Kanan and Ezra as they entered the engine room. The fight started in the engine room. Blame Mr. Ink for that. And see above regarding instances of sneaking aboard large capital ships in Star Wars.

Come on, it's a five man band in a tiny ship. And I am sure enough stormtroopers were ordered to patrol the Star Destroyers, but since they are even more pathetic shots than in the OT, of course they can't stop the ghost crew. And I am also sure the security vids were closely monitored but bzz who is even thinking that far? Certainly not the dumb kids watching this (or so the creators seem to think). Sometimes I feel like I am getting dumber from watching the show.

This logic you are spouting at me is all ignoring the many flaws in writing this show has. You seem to buy completely, 100%, into the bs that Filoni is throwing at us.

Tarkin the character is not to blame here, the ****** writing that turns the ghost crew into automatic victors in pretty much every engagement with imperial troops or war machines is.

Why are you talking about security protocols in a show that is lacking common logic? This is not a real military, it is a fake sci-fy kid version of it. Tarkin is acting intelligent compared to all the other "geniuses" in the show. The makers don't even want us to think about stuff like security protocols much or everything unravels anyhow. If you think that Tarkin is stupid it only further demonstrates how badly the show is written because that wasn't their intention according to interviews.

And how exactly does stupidity in TCW excuse the stupidity in rebels? While I liked TCW more, I don't think I ever praised it for its logical coherence.

Silly, as if Mr Inky were the cause of this happening, of course the writers are, they wrote it in this stupid way. Just this time, Inky was the one to be temporarily turned into a dumbass out of convenience, not that it hasn't happened before.

But I think I am finished here. I had my say and that's that.

There's an easy solution to that feeling. Don't watch. But the reality is that you will keep watching because deep down you still enjoy it. You just also like nitpicking it to death. You'll just use some excuse to keep coming back to it, such as "I keep watching in hopes it gets better." or some other common refrain.

Not at all. There's a lot of little details that bother me from time to time, and characterizations I question. But I look past those because it's a fun show, and the overarching story far outweighs issues such as the competence of the stormtroopers, I think. I didn't always feel that way, but I've been converted, especially having seen the opener for Season 2.

Control your language. Think of the fragile little minds you are warping. By the Force, man! Think of the children!

In case you hadn't noticed, Tarkin is the writing, good, bad or otherwise. He's not a real figure and he doesn't make decisions on his own. He is everything that the writers make him, nothing more, nothing less. So when you say Tarkin was not to blame for what happened, that's because you think the writers wrote it that way. Yet the writers also wrote flaws into Tarkin's security for the heroes to exploit. And the end of all this discussion, the fact remains that writers intentionally wrote flaws into Tarkin's plan, i.e. mistakes.

If the writers didn't want us to consider security, why go through the trouble of writing a whole scene in which Tarkin details the extra precautions he's taken? It's obvious that it was on their minds. And I never once stated that I thought Tarkin was stupid. He is arrogant and a bit reckless with the security of his command. That's shown very evidently in ANH as well. It's a pattern of his character. It's one of his flaws.

If that's what you're worried about, I think you're in the wrong story universe.

I'm finding it ironic and odd that this specific thread is currently more populated by people that don't like the show than do during the off-season.

The heroes pay for the contrivances in Star Wars.

Rebel pilots are killed, Obi Wan is killed, Beru and Owen are killed. Jawas are killed.

The Rebels take on ANH would have been no deaths for any people on the hero side, Obi Wan escapes the Death Star, Luke and Han blow up the Death Star on their own with a few comedy scenes of Imperials in between.

Rebels is also a TV show. That's the main difference between feature-length films and TV shows. The ratio of emotional/character development to events that take place is much smaller for TV shows.

If you want to site TCW as a counter point to that, it's because TCW didn't really accept its label as a TV show. By the end, we were getting several animated Star Wars FILMS a year. So there would be huge character development in every arc, but for different characters each time. That's why the opinions on the show were so divisive. People liked the arcs that progressed the stories of the characters they liked and then (for the most part) hated on arcs that dealt with characters or themes that didn't interest them.

Star Wars Rebels has embraced the television medium from day one. Every single member of the Ghost crew has appeared in every episode and their stories are constantly evolving; much slower than they evolve in, say, the original trilogy. But that's because Rebels is already about the same runtime as ANH and ESB mashed together and this is only the first season of what hopes to be a long-lived program!

Why does it bother people so much that other people dislike a cartoon that they like I.e Darth_Pevra shouldn't post if he does not like it.
I do not like the show but others do, that does not bother me so why is it not visa versa, I don't get it ?

As for the show the main problem (for me anyway) is that it's boring. It's essentially the same episode each week i.e. they infiltrate an Imperial complex, while out witting a 1000 Imperials Roadrunner/Wiley Coyote style, No real tension at all. Just scenes (and music) rip offs of the OT. Nothing original at all.
There is no real character development unless you count Aladdin's cut and paste Luke Skywalker story.
Which holds no real long term interest, even for kids, I suspect. I think Filoni recognises that too, hence all the "guest stars" to drum up interest.

To me it's damning for a show that the excitement and what's being talked about most is Darth Vader and Ahsoka and once they are done, I think the show will be finished.

Why do I still watch the show? Because I have enough trust in Filoni that I hope it will get better like TCW got better. Also, I want to know everything regarding Darth Vader in the new canon because he is my favorite character, I want to know every single detail about him.

But in truth it is nobody's business to tell me I should stop watching. Telling a poster to shut up or stop watching if I don't like it is rude and disrespectful. My reasons are nobody's business and I only stated them to demonstrate I am a human being with reasons and not just some anonymous internet troll.

Although it is perhaps not entirely fair, I have the same suspicion. However I would like to differ in a point: people were often dissappointed by the story arcs because they did not advance the story of the war much. Of course you could argue that the course of the war was insignificant because it was staged and its result clear from the beginning. I still found it strange that we were seeing bounty hounters, third party forces, and rogue dark siders left and right when there was a huge war going on. I tolerated it better when I liked the characters, as you said, but I was missing so much:
    • space battles: we only saw gimpses of huge battles, rather than a full length feature
    • non-clone/Non-Jedi officers: Yularen was very inconsistently characterized, Tarkin very one-dimensional, and overall we did not get enough screentime. ...which is sad, because they are a powerful background-link to the OT.
    • Heroes on Both Sides: despite a title to the contrary, we never saw a CIS hero.
    I could go on...

Rebels on the other hand is much smaller in scale, I don't expect much, at least for now.
