True, but the hobbits were certainly able to deal with them! ;)

    SPOILER

One rumor I've heard, and seen a picture is that Saruman dies a gruesome death on a spike! Anyone know anything about that?

    END SPOILER

I haven't heard anything like that but it would certainly be cool.

That's apparently what happens. However, it's also been mentioned that Saruman is in all 3 films. Weird, huh?

It is always good to have read the books. You get alot more out of the movies.

This is sort of related. My friend said that Tom Bombadil was going to be on the FOTR DVD as deleted scenes. However, I was under the impression that PJ didn't shoot those scenes at all.

From what I know Jackson didn't even shoot those scenes, and they were never planned at all.

Hmmm, Saruman gets spiked in 2 but comes back in 3? Who does he think he is, Gandalf? [face_laugh]

If Gandalf and Sauron can come back from certain death, why not the White Wizard?

Also: the Bombadil scenes were never filmed. They thought of having a brief homage to him, with the sounds of a man singing off in the forest as the hobbits were passing through, but decided against that.

But he is no longer the powerful 'White Wizard'. By this point he has lost all his power 'save his voice'.

I'm not really a LOTR fan. I liked FOTR, it was dragged out a bit but I respect that the fans were happy with that. I look forward to seeing what will happen I suppose, so I guess you could say I am excited to see the two towers. Of course star wars is the saga of all sagas, and for me nothing can compare.

Has anyone seen the T3 teaser yet? It convinced me. haha. I think that if its good, the terminator trilogy will get more respect and maybe even rank up there with matrix and LOTR, but never star wars. haha

    Yeah, I saw it.
What do you mean it was dragged out? They left out some cool parts!
Like having a serious lack of Gollum!!!

I mean, from an unbiast point of view it was quite long. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it both times I saw it. I am not really a fan of the Lotr saga though, maybe I should take time to read the books. I'm just trying to say what some non-fans say about it, but not me. Anyways, I think TTT will be good. I'm not exaclty hyped up as I would be for ep3, but I will definetly see it.

In terms of movie sagas, heres how I see it:
    1. Star Wars!!!!!
    2. LOTR
    3. The Matrix(although it depends on the quality of 2 and 3, so I guess its pending, although it will never reach the quality and originality of LOTR, nor will it, or any saga, ever come into the ballpark of star wars, IMHO.) What I'm trying to say is that Star Wars is my ultimate favorite. haha, and it blows away the competition in my eyes.

Anyone agree or have any thoughts? Or should I start a seperate thread on sagas discussion?

I don't think any discussion about that is needed. We are all here because we love Star Wars.
I don't judge LOTR on the same scale as I do SW. I love them both differently, but I am more obsessed with SW. :)

I believe I am equally obsessed with both, though I tend to think it takes a lot more to really understand the entire Lord of the Rings then Star Wars...

Very true. Although, I'm not sure- I have spent more time learning what things are in SW. Lucas randomly puts things in the script and doesn't explain things and I always take the time to find out what they are.
But I must admit that LOTR is far more complicated. So many names...

That is correct spelling but Gollum is just Smeagol's nickname.

    How far have you gotten?

I just started to read FotR,I'm on chapter 5.

Very interesting how it plays out in the book compared to the movie,or the other way around I guess.
