From the suggestions started in this thread and with a little help from the Fan Art Forum, here is our very first C&P monthly ?Costume and/or Prop Design Challenge?!

Imagine George Lucas has hired you as the costume designer, or props master for one of the Star Wars movies! You have creative license - so brainstorm and come up with what YOU would want the characters to wear or tote in the movies!

If this proves popular, each month we will post different character or prop challenges that people can choose from. You can submit drawings, paintings, posters, collage, photo-manipulation... whatever you're inspired to do.

This is not a contest, and everyone is welcome to post responses to this thread, regardless of whether you've ever posted anything in this forum. Please don't be nervous or discouraged, because all of us would love to see your creative endeavours!

Here are the topics for July:

    JULY DESIGN CHALLENGE:

Costumes: Prequel era Jedi or Sith
Props: Original lightsaber design for a Jedi or Sith
    ________________________________________

    A Few Notes:

-Please post your images in this thread so we can have them all collected in one area for everyone to appreciate. If you need help with how to post images, see the Markup Codes page.

-You can submit designs for one topic, or do both of them. It is up to you.

-Comments for everyone's artwork should also be posted in this thread. Even if you're not participating yourself, your comments are more than welcome.

-If you have suggestions for future topics, please PM them to me.
    ________________________________________

That's it. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of great designs and I know we'll see some amazing stuff! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them here.

The deadline for this challenge is July 30th.

What happens at the end of the challenge? Remembering that this is not a contest, but just a challenge for fun, we will have spent a month admiring the cool stuff the creative people around here come up with!

cool, gives me something to do at work lol
in trying to continue from the other thread...
I don't think Jedi would bother really distinguishing between ranks of Knight and Master, and only something minorly different for Padawans... It just seems that it would promote too arrogance (at least a possible source for arrogance) and the Jedi aren't about that. Sith on the other hand I could see having very obvious fantastic rank markers/markings (but nothing that couldn't be concealed easily) because they are after all the opposite of Jedi.

I'm glad to see that this was made into a reality! It looks great! :D

I'm not the best with costume design, but I may have to give this a try. Afterall, it is art-related. ;)

I took that to show off my new tabbards, but I think it provides a good look at what i'd like jedi to have looked like. I'm actually wearing a hakama, but you can't see it because it got chopped out of the picture.

    S_S edit: fixed link :)

This is my version of a new Prequel Jedi. The pattern in the print is organic. I like staying the with shades of brown for Jedi but this twists the standard uniform a bit. I also like skirts for Jedi women. This one is loose and has side slits, both for movement and to show the boots.

=D= I really like your material selection and the skirts. I look better in a Jedi skirt than pants too. Nice work and this is a great idea. Maybe it should also be pasted on the fanforce homepage with other announcements. I will get my work together before the end of the month.

this is one of my projects I have lined up. It is sith, but its more traditional jedi mixed with sith. It has a leather bottom piece that goes over the pants, its sort of like a leather skirt piece, and that has leather straps over it. Then the tabards come all the way down to meet it at the end and line up so that it makes 3 points at the bottom.

Also it has a matching lightsaber with leather straps all the way down it. I am thinking of making that a double blade also. Maybe even curving it to fit the hand perfectly.

Also I have the following two lightsaber designs that I plan to build as stunt sabers.

Tramp: nice idea for a Zabrak.

davisjaron: I like that costume. It's got enough brown it would be nice for a Jedi. Interesting treatment of the leather skirt.

Mine's a kind of "what if" alternate design for PT Jedi.

I chose to make my design closer to the "Galactic Police" that the Jedi act as in the PT. I also feel it's reminiscent of what Luke wears in his final confrontation with Vader, and to a lesser extent, the Imperial Officers.

I chose the color blue to give the uniform a closer connection to Earth police, and I kept the boots pretty much as they were, but kind of mixed it with the boots "Galactic Marines" wear (the clones with Ki-Adi-Mundi on Mygeeto).

Instead of a clip for the lightsaber, I gave it a removable holster.
    [image=http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/9444/pt4dq.jpg]

Since Luke and Obi-Wan's ANH lightsabers were from the PT, I decided that the lightsabers would have that "hardware" look, and I mixed parts from different OT sabers.
    [image=http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8929/pt1bq.jpg]

Keep in mind I only have MSpaint on my computer, and I don't have a scanner so you'll have to excuse the quality of the pictures.

Thanks. I have quite a few othe pics on SWAG as well. That one was done by request based upon information given by the requestor, though he didnâ??t give many specifics on the clothes. There is also a Wookiee Jedi there that I did as well.

Here's a design I used and made for Celebration III. Unfort I got no pics of me in it and I haven't found any on the net from the people who DID take my picture:

And a picture of it with one of the tabs:

I'll also be posting two more, I drew up a Sith and another Zabrak Jedi concept sketch for my sketch class, but I turned it in for the bloody final project and I won't get it back until next week!

    Wonderful designs, everyone. :)

The_awesome_jedi, what are your tabbards made out of? I can't quite tell from your picture if they are a soft fabric or some sort of leather?

Tramp, I really enjoyed looking at your artwork. Your costume design for the Zabrak is different, yet very recognizable as a Jedi. Great job! (I like the environment he's meditating in too.)
The Wookiee jedi is fantastic. I like the way you drew his robe, spread around him. Nice!

Jedi_Kai, nice costume! I especially like that you incorporated side slits into the skirt for added movement. :)

davisjaron, I really really like the design of your costume. The leather straps and three 'points' that the skirt and tabbards make create for a very interesting and textured piece. And adding the leather straps to the lightsaber hilt is a nice touch. Good job!

darth_Boba, interesting take on the Jedi 'police' idea. The holster really gives it that gun toting 'police' sort of touch. And I like the boots a lot.

Welcome to the forum Maltalosseion. Thanks for contributing to the thread with your design. I think it's quite nice and I dig the colors. :)

Verdaera, that is beautiful. I think I must have missed seeing you in it at C3.
It's a nice twist on the female Jedi look and I really like the leather tabs. Will you be adding the second one with the gold desing in the middle?
