Ok, after discussion with my fellow 3SA mods, from now on, THIS will be the thread to discuss Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader. Including all opinions of when in the movie it happens, where, and why.

This means, whenever new evidence arises that applies to the subject, please post in this thread, rather than starting a new one. Your speculation and opinions, whether or not supported by evidence are of course welcome as well.

Where: On a Star Destroyer or some other Imperial ship

Why: 'Cause Palpatine spent his entire life working on this plan. He's not gonna let a little lava stop him.

yep...i think that it'll be on a star destroyer rather than just an imperial shuttle...and in the end of course...in cuts between the birth and yoda, obi 1 and bail's talkings...

When: He took his first step by the murder of tuskin camp but im going to say the Anakin and Palpy/Sidious vs Mace Windo duel is the crucial step in the birth of Darth Vader. So he might not have the name at the time, Anakin killing Mace Windu marks the fall of Anakin Skywalker and the birth of Darth Vader.

Where: Palpatine's office on Coruscant .


Why: Anakin thinks he has been betrayed and held back by the Jedi. By giving into his hate of Mace or the Jedi as a whole and giving that final deadly strike to Mace IMO is the moment where Vader is born.

Wasn't Vader supposed to be on Coruscant at some point, according to some official spoiler ?

If so, when would it be ? I doubt they watch the DS being constructed (still hope it won't happen) from Coruscant.

My guess is that Vader's birth takes place on Coruscant.

I hope it will be cool.
That's one of the very few scenes I'm looking forward to.

it is rumoured that sidious tells him that anakin skywalker killed her...IMHO it has a bigger impact...

 

ome, that thread is for Darth Vader's ROLE in ROTS. This is for WHEN in the movie Anakin BECOMES Darth Vader, and where, and why, to a lesser extent. We've had a LOT of threads dealing with this pop up lately, hence the OFFICIAL Thread.

As for my own opinion, I believe Anakin becomes Darth Vader AFTER the duel with Obi-Wan, when he is made a Sith by Palpatine.

yes...that anakin skywalker is basically dead...that's sidious' twisted psychology...

 

WHEN: At the moment he commits the first act that "forever dominates his destiny". From this moment on, there is no comeback (or so we think).

WHERE: Clone Wars cartoon not included, when he lets Mace be destroyed, or joins in.

Why: If we need to explain that, we are struggling.

and it's not confirmed he won't be in coruscant in the suit...it is just most unlikely to happen..

because is it fact that Anakin still has the name Anakin when hes fighting or is it like

This is not meant solely for when Anakin gets the Suit. It is for ALL discussions of when Anakin is considered Darth Vader in the movie, whether it's before the suit or after.

 

He sees Anakin, in the Temple, but knows he is no longer Anakin. He sees Vader. Ben doesnt, Ben sees Anakin and wants to save Anakin.....Yoda lets him go, knowing the end result....Yoda can see the future, he interprates the Prophecy and he gets the rogue element that Sidious will never see.

Darth Vader THE SITH:

Where: Coruscant, Palpatine's Office

When: During Mace Windu VS Anakin Skywalker duel

Why: Palpatine/Sidious finally convinces Anakin that the actual Jedi philosophy is stopping Anakin from possessing, getting attatched to, and trying to preserve those that he loves.



Darth Vader THE CYBORG:

Where: Imperial Ship/Mustafar/nearby planet/Coruscant

When: Near the end, during the death of Padme and birth of Luke & Leia

Why: Palpatine/Sidious has recruited the most powerful force-user ever, and has used him to make war and hunt down the remaining Jedi under his own order. But now Anakin has been sverely injured, and much of his original power has been lost. But there is no one left for Palpatine to recruit, and he can't begin to rain a Sith from birth at the very beggining of his empire, so the Emperor is stuck with having Anakin or no one, and he chooses to save Anakin.
