*OFFICIAL THREAD* What Will Episode III Be Rated

I hoping for a confirmation today, but if it's in Playboy, I guess it can be trusted.

 

I don't think going from a PG to a PG-13 is "dumbing it down. A guy catches on fire, I bet that's the reason. It's all about realism. You can't get yur hand cut off with a lighsabre or get blasted but you can catch on fire. I think he'd be "dumbing it down" if they did't show it. That woud prove that he was just pandering to the kiddies.

 

I think the reason most people are excited about the PG-13 rating is not because blood/violence = good movie, but rather because it means that George is not cutting his film down for the sake of the rating. He made the movie the way he thinks it should be, and didn't "dumb it down" just to keep the ratings consistent. Does it mean the movie will definitely be good? No, but it means George is sticking with his vision and releasing what he feels is the best cut of the film. To me, that's promising.

 

I think part of the excitement over the rating being "upped" is because there has been an undercurrent of discontent among certain fans with the childish nature of TPM and some of the slapstick humor of AotC. Seeing a PG-13 rating gives them hope that the movie will be devoid of such silly indulgences on George's behalf. I personally don't think that this is the case. There will still be moments of lighthearted humor, but there is a dude that catches fire and plenty of limbs get lost...not to mention the most egregious form of domestic violence a Jedi could ever engage in. That's all a little too intense for a PG film.

I wonder what would happen if the official rating was PG, after all of these rumors. When will ROTS be rated,
does anyone know. I hope it gets a PG-13, but the rating doesn't really matter.

Uh, just because a movie is PG-13 (or NC-17 for that matter) does not mean it won't have or can't have "kiddy" stuff in it. There will certainly be the usual antics of R2 and 3p0.

 

I was told that MPAA usually has up to a week before the film premieres to announce the rating, is this accurate?

I think PalpatineSidewalker and Lord__NoONE have really nailed it. A PG13 rating doesn't guarantee a good film but it does mean it hasn't been watered down. Not just the visual violence but also the emotional violence of betrayal.

 

So when do you think the offical rating will be out? Should be soon.
