I'd like to hear @Souderwan 's opinion of this, since he's actually a Navy man and is more familiar with rules and regulations than I would be.

Personally, I tend to agree with one of the commenters at the bottom of the article....

I think the death fakery was posted months ago, the discharge is new information.

What's this about "another lapse of judgment"? Isn't he already being discharged from the service?

I'm not entirely certain, but it's possible @Aytee-Aytee is referring to the Air Force General who overturned a jury's rape verdict of an air force serviceman. Who since, the verdict was overturned by the general, is now allowed back into the Air Force.

Why does the word "discharge" still make me giggle?

Oh yes, because that part of my brain is still twelve.

If the Sec. of the Navy signs off on it as an honorable discharge, it's possible that he would be allowed to re-enlist. Note that he was allowed to keep his rank as Captain. That's why I wonder what Souderwan thinks, because he knows more than I do. I'm only a sailor's son...I'd ask my father, but he left the service almost 30 years ago. Brian's in the here and now.
