What's the deal with Yoda and R-2 on Daggabah?

Ok, I can buy that when they first meet, Yoda might want to act like something else to test Lukes reactions.(even though he's been 'watching' him for over 18 years) But tug-o-war, screaming, and hitting?
R-2 would know who Yoda is, yet attacks him?

Lucas didn't have it all figured out back in the 80's, so this could make some sort of logic, but now that the saga is complete (?), maybe it was all in fun, but I see no reference to this type of behavior for both R-2 and Yoda from ROTS.

Have I missed something in the prequils?
    Or has George?

    Never mind. :D

Maybe Yoda really did go crazy!. Now that would make for a story...

    "My staff, where is it?"

    "But Yoda, you're holding it."

    "Shut up, kid."

Artoo never made direct contact with Yoda in the prequels.

I would like to say yoda and R2 didnt really cross paths but in ROTS R2 is on the Tantive with Yoda when Yoda bails out to dagobah.

    Hmmmm...

I can still buy Yoda and R2 didnt really have any time together for it to cause a problem in ESB.

Well, you gotta figure that going from a posh apartment on Coruscant to 20 years on a swamp planet will make anyone a bit nuts. :D

I haven't seen ROTS, but someone told me that R2D2 and C3PO were ordered to have their memories wiped when taken by their new owners. If so, then R2D2 would never recognize Yoda, and Yoda would see R2D2 as just some droid. Droids are a dime a dozen in the SW galaxy.

ROTS Spoiler: R2's memory doesn't get wiped. But R2's first loyalty is to Luke, and who knows how smart or perceptive a droid really is? R2 may not realize it's Yoda, either. Assuming he could even recognize Yoda's species, who knows if it's actually the Jedi Master? Especially since the Jedi Master never acted like a senile toddler. :)

Just because (Insert the spoiler from RurouniKJS post here) didnt happen, doesnt mean it wont happen later, before the OT.

I don't think Yoda would remeber a certain R2 unit. especially one he barely interacts with.
But like Twilekjedi says, he could have been in on it all along.
