    What species in Yoda?!?

I've heard someone say he is a Whill.

I've also heard he is a 900 year old Human.

I wanna know!!! I'm gonna beat down Lucas' door at Skywalker Ranch, and ask him point blank... WHO'S WITH ME?!?

Perhaps the race should be named the Oz, or the Frank?! :)

Or how about a brain trip - what if the race was called Jedi?

Whills are canon, It is in the Star Wars A New Hope Novel Adaptation(Lucasfilm states the the books are canon over all other EU sources, but this is not the place for that debate). Whills are in the Preface.

I'm not sure I only glanced at the preface. I haven't read the book yet. So many EU books to complete first. I think it vaguely talked about the history of the rise of the empire, then was signed from the journal of the wills.
