Okay, now that we've all seen AOTC, can we PLEASE give this movie a respectable title???

i still think "attack of the clones" is a corny title, but the ever popular "rise of the empire" wouldn't have worked for the film either. so what should it have been called?

"Star Wars: Episode II - Dark Forces"

yeah, i know it's a videogame, but it fits perfectly to me. i know y'all are more creative than i am. help me out.

Dark Forces is perhaps the worst title suggestion I've ever heard. It doesn't even fit the naming scheme.

Attack of the Clones is perfect.

 

ATTACK OF THE CLONES is a great title. It works and it fits.

Attack of the Clones IS corny. Dark Forces doesn't fit too well, but it is not the worst possible title by a long shot.

"The Clone Wars" would have been sufficient

 

or the obvious:

"Star Wars: Episode II - The Clone War(s)"

i realize the word "war" appears twice in the title, but i'm not a fan of these long drawn out titles anyway. i like just using the subtitle and dropping all the obvious stuff.

And "The Empire Strikes Back" isn't corny? "Return of the Jedi" is corny too. Hell all the titles are corny.

 

The titles are corny in that most excellent sci-fi serials way. I thought we'd all be used to it by now.

 

If you don't like the title then just call it Episode 2.

 

oh god, here come the fanboys. listen you geeks, this thread isn't meant to bash your lord and savior george lucas, it's just an interesting topic that i thought might be fun. but i forgot that everything in star wars is the infallible, unquestioned word of god. my mistake.

 

I see where you're coming from skillmatic. Certain people around here treat Lucas like a God and defend his every inconsistency and mistake with horrible excuses and concoctions.

Actually, I hate TPM with every fibre of my being. Am I still a fanboy? Doesn't matter. AOTC is still a great title.

 

Yeah if we like something Lucas does that you don't like we must be fanboys...we must be blind followers of Lucas just because we like something he did that you don't like...

 

I honestly didn't mind the title AFTER I'd seen it for awhile. I would've preferred something else, but I'm not sure what. "The Clone Wars," might've worked but it doesn't have as much of that Saturday morning matinee feel to it.

 

When we were younger and were first introduced to Star Wars, the titles weren't corny to us, because we were young. Since we thought that then, most of us carried those opinions through to present day. Now that we're older, certain things seem more pathetic...

That's a horrible name for a Star Wars film. It doesn't say anything about the movie besides that there are dark forces.

Leave it alone, its respectable enough to know that fanboys had no part in making it up.

I think a fitting title for Episode 2 would have been "The Clone War Begins." But I have no problem with AOTC.

Star Wars Episode II: The Title Bashers Strike Back!

 

If I might make a point:

The Phantom Menace - title refers to a key intangible, probably to a key person, probably to a key grouping, one both political and mystical.

A New Hope - title refers to a key intangible, probably mystical, and certainly to a key person.

The Empire Strikes Back - title refers to events centred on a political grouping and avoids the mystical. (It contains a verb)

Return of the Jedi - title refers to events involving a key person and grouping, and to the mystical. (It contains a verb - but preferred Revenge...)

Attack of the Clones - contains a verb, and the title sort of refers to events (though the clones don't attack much) and to an important grouping - though one not key in the sense of being central characters, but key in the sense of being used. However vital, the clones are ever spear-carriers in this saga.

I do think the title has some problems... If I had to pick another???

Has a nice Yoda back to front-ness and avoids this attack/centering business - has no verb
