Okay, now that we've all seen AOTC, can we PLEASE give this movie a respectable title???

Okay, for the last time. I want everyone to say this out loud:
    (Come on, don't be shy)

    Star Wars: A New Hope
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi
    Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars: The Clone Wars ???????

The only thing worse than that title would be "Dark Forces". It's not "respectable" as the title of this thread suggests. It's lame and lacks all the fun and imagination that makes Star Wars what it is. (And isn't it a 'video game' title anyways?)

That's why Georgie makes the movies and the billions of dollars, and you work at Taco Bell.

Movies.com posted this EXCELLENT response to the title of Episode II: Attack of the Clones

The new title has the same drive-in double feature, B-movie ring to it that was captured by 1999's Episode I ? The Phantom Menace, and it would appear that the effect is entirely intentional. The official announcement posted at StarWars.com states that the new title "harkens [sic] back to the sense of pure fun, imagination, and excitement that characterized the classic movie serials and pulp space fantasy adventures that inspired the Star Wars saga."

Or, try comparing Attack of the Clones to these B-movie chapter titles to the adventure Serial, The Shadow?

    1. The Doomed City
    2. The Shadow Attacks
    3. The Shadow's Peril
    4. In the Tiger's Lair
    5. Danger Above
    6. The Shadow's Trap
    7. Where Horror Waits
    8. The Shadow Rides the Rails
    9. The Devil in White
    10. The Underground Trap
    11. Chinatown Night
    12. Murder by Remote Control
    13. Wheels of Death
    14. The Sealed Room
    15. The Shadow's Net Closes (conclusion)

I love the title to Episode two, and I hope Episode III has a similar B-movie sounding title... The Emperors Shadow, or The Danger Within....

I think that all of the titles are just fine; "A Rose by any other name would smell but as sweet..."

I think a good name for Ep3 would be something like:

    The Fall Of The Jedi

    or

    The Shadow of the Empire

I'm glad Episode II doesn't have a respectable title. Star Wars isn't a part of Hollywood system or the establishment.

I'm more concerned about the title for EP3.

I don't think it will be "of the" something because GL has used that for AOTC. If he did I'd like to see EP3 titled "The Last of the Jedi"-- sort of a homage to "The Last of the Mohicans."

It's more likely the title for EP3 will be in the ESB mold. Something like "The Republic falls" or "The Dark Side Rises."

Although I could see GL taking those one step further to "The Republic Falls Down" or The Dark Side Rises Up/Forth."

"Duel of the Fates" would be a really cool title for EP3.

To the topic, if I could rename AOTC, I'd probably go with "Shroud of the Darkside."

How does the title translate in international markets?

    In Germany the title is:

    Angriff der Klonkrieger

    If translated literally it means:

    Attack of the Clone Warriors,

Which I quite like. Though I must add that "Attack of the Clones" makes much more sense than "The Clone Wars" because we see the beginning of the Clone War, not the actual War itself.

Ah, the classic basher argument. "You liked something I didn't, therefore you must be blindly following Lucas."

Ah, the classic strawman argument. Attack an opinion which is different from that of the opponent.

woody_1138, thanks for your opinion but i already stated in the original post that the title "Dark Forces" was both uncreative and a recycled videogame title. apparently the reason why you don't work at taco bell is because you can't read well enough to fill out the job application.

I didn't like the title Attack of the Clones at first, but it's grown on me. I think whatever Lucas had named the movie (within reason), most people would have come to accept it.

    Other suggestions:

Star Wars: Episode II: The Clone War
Star Wars: Episode II: Shadow of the Sith
Star Wars: Episode II: The Decline of the Republic
Star Wars: Episode II: The Demise of the Jedi
Star Wars: Episode II: Balance of the Force

Hmmm, some of them sound more like Episode III titles. The Clone War would have been good. AOTC is alright.

    Skillmatic,

"Dark Forces". You said that it was a "PERFECT" title for the film despite the fact that it was un-creative.

And then you said that "The Clone Wars" would have been a good title despite the fact that it's a grammatical nightmare in the context of the full title.

You obviously can't do any better.

And I'm sorry about the Taco Bell comment. It WAS a little immature. (Maybe I should have added a happy-face) But I come here to discuss Star Wars and lately all I've been doing is defending it.

Now can I get that Taco Supreme without sour cream please? :)

Woody you need to talk to people in PMs to actually discuss the film these days. The forums are strictly the battleground.
