    I find it amazing each that i meet someone new who lives in long island that something happened in their town or someone famous grew up in thier town.

    So what is everyone's town known for?

    I live in Valley Stream and considering that its just a regular small town there have been plenty of things that my town is known for.

    Well if everyone remembers the Kelly Tynas {spell check} murder. That was so big back in the day.

    ok now the famous people who were born here or lived in VS.

    former football player Stephen Boyd. {Detroit Lions}

    Actor/Screenwriter Ed Burns

    Actor/Director Steve Buscemi

    Actor/Comedian Jim Breur

    and i believe that rap star Shaggy now lives in VS for what reason i do not know.

    I live in Huntington. My favorite town in all of Long Island. We don't have so many modern famous people, but they do boast that Mariah Carey was from here, and in nearby Syosset there was N. Portman. Anyone else from Huntington?

    Stonybrook (My school) is known for its wonderful surrounding farm area.....

    I used to live in Freeport, and where i lived, it was known for the street flooding.. cant tell you how many times my house was on News 12...

    My town, Hewlett, is named for the biggest Loyalist family in Long Island. One family member -- Richard Hewlett -- tried to capture Washington, and failed, earning himself a death mark (which is not an easy thing to live with!).

    A street in my neighborhood, Glendale, is the one used in the credits of All In the Family.

    And Harry Houdini is buried in the cemetary near our house.

    In all reality.. Bellmore used to be called Smithville or Smithhook or something like that... and then the bellmores moved here and they must have had some $$ or something cause the town was renamed.

    Okay everyone....Party at Mike's :)

    Sam: How much money do you think it would take to re-name a town. I'm thinking of saving up and re-naming the Bronx....Jasonville. :)

    Well it depends on how small the town is. Considering the fact Bellmore was mostly farms until around the 50's probably not a lot. lol
