Anybody out there know when the oldest known fan film was created/released? My wife and her brother made one as kids on a little B&W camera, and when a friend heard about it, he excitedly commented that it might be the oldest one around. I'm just curious to know if there's anything out there older.

Are we just talking about Star Wars, or any fan films?

I HIGHLY recommend—and not just for this topic—"Homemade Hollywood", a book by one of our TFN forumgoers. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0826429238/adambertocci-20

It covers the history of fan films since practically the dawn of motion picture technology. If memory serves, the earliest example he found was a "The Little Rascals" knockoff called "Anderson Our Gang", produced in 1926. Yes, you read that correctly.
