I told you before, but I love Master Majid. You've written him wonderfully - his dialogue was just great. Another wonderful OC, I see - but no surprise there. :)

He made some great insights into Eitan and Xan's friendship. Let's hope Eitan takes some of them to heart. Like a couple of other people have said, I can't wait for Majid to take Eitan as a Padawan.

    More soon?

Birdy Yup. The Master we hear so much about in Live and See will feature heavily from here on out. We get to see why he impacted Eitan so much. ;)

Kynstar [face_blush] I'm glad you enjoyed that post. I enjoyed writing it. :)

HHP Nice to see you. I'm slowing down in my old age. :p

Noi I must say I'm having a ball trying to go back and craft his youth. Course Birdy can tell you the headaches I've run into already. Live has acquired some edits recently. [face_laugh]

Diane Majid was good for Eitan, but in a way bad also. Make sense? [face_thinking] Hopefully it will as we go along.

ts I kind of picture Master Majid as a wise Japanese elder. Full of wisdom and kindness. :)

Bekah You'll learn soon that even Master Majid has his uncertainties. :(

Shaindl Master Majid's words haven't fallen on deaf ears. ;)

AnakinsHeir [face_blush] That's sweet of you. It's nice to see you.

Quick word of thanks for the noms. [face_love]

    Chapter Five

The series of symbols blurring into one large, unrecognizable blob, Eitan pushed his data pad away with a long suffering sigh. Hands resting limply in his lap, he rested his chin on the top of the small desk in his room and shut weary eyes. He?d slept little the night before, his thoughts consumed with both his best friend?s attitude at the training session and the puzzling conversation he?d had with Master Majid. Exhausted from his restless night, he?d almost fallen asleep in class several times. Master Ali-Allan had leveled him with a disapproving look each time he?d been forced to shake Eitan awake.

Xanatos' reaction, he knew, was caused by jealousy and a fear of not getting what he most desired. Eitan didn?t want to take his friend?s nasty remarks to heart but it was difficult not to. He?d never given the other boy any reason to doubt his loyalty and friendship which made Xanatos' nasty words wound even deeper. Eitan?s thoughts grew even more solemn as he once again recalled Master Majid?s words. It was clear now that the Jedi Master had been warning him about Xanatos. Eitan wasn?t sure how he felt about that.

The door chime had his head snapping up in surprise. He wasn?t expecting any visitors since it was close to curfew time for the entire level. Pushing the chair back, he hurried over to activate the door control. The instant he saw the wide, almost gloating smile that wreathed his friend?s face, he felt his stomach tighten into a knot. The tall, imposing figure that stood behind Xanatos only confirmed his fears.

"Guess what, Eitan? Master Qui-Gon just asked me to be his apprentice!"

It took all of his training for Eitan to swallow his initial feelings of disappointment and offer Xanatos a small, wobbly smile.

    "That?s great, Xan. Congratulations."

Xanatos stepped aside and waved a hand toward his new Master. "Master, this is my best friend Eitan Delano. Eitan, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn."

Craning his neck in order to meet the towering Jedi?s gaze, Eitan was once again unsettled by the piercing stare that bored into him. Tearing his eyes away from Master Jinn?s, he performed a respectful bow before staring at the JedI?s utility belt.

"It?s an honor to meet you, Master Jinn."

Qui-Gon Jinn moved around his newly chosen apprentice in order to crouch down in front of the other boy. He carefully surveyed young Delano, this being the first time he?d been face to face with the boy in eleven years. Although he would never reveal his secret to the two friends, he vividly remembered the day Eitan Delano came into the galaxy. Even now all these years later, the memory brought a wave of sadness with it. At eighteen standard years of age, having to watch a grieving Lady Eitan give her child away had greatly touched and affected him. The moment seared into his consciousness, Qui-Gon had gone out of his way ever since to keep an eye on the child as he grew and flourished. At one point the idea of taking Eitan as his apprentice had crossed his mind. Until the day three years

A great chapter! I loved seeing Qui-Gon and Eitan together. But now, knowing Eitan's fate, it makes it that much more sad!

A tinge of red broke out on the boy?s face at his words. Almost against his will, Qui-Gon reached out and ran a fingertip along a smooth, brown cheek. Not surprisingly, a feeling of nostalgia accompanied the action as he recalled doing the same thing to a newly- born Eitan. He remembered with vivid detail the feather light weight as he cradled the small bundle the entire trip to Coruscant. A brief jolt of regret was ruthlessly squashed as he ruffled the ebony cap of hair and stood. He?d made his choice based on the connection he felt toward young deCrion. Eitan Delano?s destiny was out of his hands.

Awww, that's so sweet! I am reading this story and Learning to See, but it's so hard when I know what trials Eitan will face. I get more and more sad for the little boy. :_|

I really liked the Qui-Gon had thought to take Eitan as his apprentice before Xani came along. I wonder how very different history might have been if he had. Great job with showing the negative side of Xan even at this stage and poor Eitan's reaction to it all.

    Waiting impatiently for more.

So, Qui-Gon had chosen Xan now. What doesn't it surprise me that Xan turned up to gloat? It's nice that Qui wants to try to include Eitan, but I know this is going to be lonely for Eitan. Hurry up and pick him Master Majid! ;)

    Anthony Hopkins is here! :D

I don't like Xan. He's mean and inconsiderate. :( And yet they still remain buddies as padawans. That's even sadder. :(

I wonder, if Jinn had taken Eitan, would he have been the way he was with Obi-Wan? [face_thinking]

I owe some snarky remarks, hang on, I need to think them up. No one's been making any typos. :p

Checking in with a general post! Fashionably late as usual. I love how you are portraying Xan and Eitan?s beginnings. Eitan is a complex young Tot. You?re showing his early personality wonderfully, and his reactions to the life around him. I?m liking Majid already too.

PMed earlier posts to you, and I?ll be back. :D

Eitan! :_| I just want to run in there and comfort him. Master Jinn was right, definitely much more going on in that deep interior. Poor, Eitan so much to think about right now. And Xanatos has gotten what he wanted most of all. I'm worried about our little Eitan. Can't wait for more o_e! :D

So how long until Eitan is chosen? Does Qui have anything to do with it?

I felt sorry for Eitan. His best friend hurts him with words and now he seems worried about his own future with the Jedi. :(

VL I'm finding it kinda sad as I work on both fics at the same time also. Course if I'd done this fic before the other two I don't think I'd be capable of having Eitan take the path he ends up on. :(

Kynstar Typical Xan? Not for me! :p But it's a challenge to write him this way and I like that.

Diane In Live, Eitan tells Obi he was surprised by Xan's turning because he never saw a dark side to Xan. We'll find out in this how he could say that. ;)

Noi Qui finds out next post that keeping the boys together may be a tough task. :D And you're right about Eitan being lonely.

Birdy You want to hurt Xan?

Jadewan This Xan isn't very loveable is he? :p

Altaira Complex young Tot grows into a complex man, no? [face_love] So glad to see you here!

ts I think Master Majid ends up sensing what you do. Eitan has a lot going on inside. ;)

Bekah You find out soon how Majid comes around to asking Eitan. Patience. :)

    New posty up soon. :)

Further proving what a buckethead Jinn is, he chose Xan over Eitan?!? What a moron. :p

Lovely post, OE. I truly love how you're showing both Xan and Eitan in all their complexity. It's a fascinating relationship (I refuse to call it friendship) they have. Great job!

    Chapter Six

Eitan sat down on the chair in Xanatos's room and took a moment to study his friend. Xanatos had just returned from his first extended mission as Master Jinn?s apprentice. Watching as Xanatos described the adventure, Eitan was surprised by an unexpected spark of jealousy. He'd truly been thrilled that his friend had gotten what he'd wanted most, so why was he feeling this resentment and sense of abandonment?

Xanatos steely blue eyes met his, almost as if he could read Eitan?s thoughts. A small, mocking smile curved the new Padawan?s lips.

"I?ve gone on long enough about myself. What have you been up to since I?ve been gone?"

The words were intended to hurt and they did. Eitan refused to allow Xanatos even a glimpse of the pain and embarrassment he felt at not being chosen.

"The same thing I did before you were chosen. The galaxy and my life didn?t come to a complete stop just because you got picked, Xan."

Eyes widening at the unexpected jibe from his normally docile friend, Xanatos? hands clenched into fists as he leaned forward with a scowl. "That sounds like jealousy talking. Maybe that?s why no one wants you."

Eitan drew in a sharp breath at the cruel words, eyes blinking to hold back tears. Lips thinning, he jumped to his feet and glared warningly at the other boy.

    "Take it back."

Xanatos almost flew off his bed in order to stand toe-to-toe with his evenly matched friend. "Sod off, Delano! I?d like to see you try and make me."

Tension vibrated in the air as the two boys were caught in a stalemate, neither willing to be the first to back down. Feeling a puzzled query through the bond with his Master, Xanatos's attention was briefly diverted as he hurried to reassure his mentor that everything was alright. Eitan took advantage of the distraction and launched himself at the unsuspecting apprentice, his hand grabbing a fist full of the ebony hair Xanatos refused to let be spiked as he slammed his friend into the mattress.

"I said take it back," Eitan growled as he pulled with all his might, eliciting a pained gasp from his friend.

Gritting his teeth, Xanatos used his legs and hands to try and push Eitan off top of him. "Like hell I will."

A quick snap of his elbow into Eitan?s face had him jerking back with a pained cry. Hands loosening their grip allowed Xanatos to toss his friend off and get to his feet where he stood with raised fists, daring Eitan to come at him again. Determination gleaming in his eyes, Eitan started forward just as the door slid open behind him. So centered on getting his hands around Xanatos's neck, he failed to hear the arrival of someone else. It wasn?t until hands grasped him around the arms and pulled him back that he calmed down some.

"What is going on here?" Qui-Gon demanded as his gaze traveled back and forth between the two boys in bafflement.

They?d both seemed so excited to see one another when he?d escorted Xanatos to the initiate level, almost hugging before they realized they had an audience and settling for gruff hellos. To find them both visibly angry and disheveled from a physical altercation came as a shock.

"I was telling him about the mission and he got jealous," Xanatos informed his mentor, careful to bat his eyelashes for effect.

Qui-Gon turned Eitan around to face him, a thumb gently wiping away the trickle of blood from a cut to his eye. "Is that true, Eitan?"

Stubborn silence met his query, the boy refusing to even meet his gaze. Sighing, Qui-Gon shook his head and shot his apprentice a disapproving glance.

"I think it would be best if I escorted you back to your room, Eitan."

Xanatos watched as his friend turned without a protest and moved over to gather his few personal belongings. Turning a pleading gaze up at his Master, he grabbed Eitan?s elbow as he made his way past him, pulling him to a stop.

"No Master, please. It was just as much my fault as his. Please let him s

[face_love] That was wonderful o_e! Loved the tension and both were too stubborn to back down. And Eitan didn't notice someone had entered *hehehe*

And Xani didn't want him to leave! That is quite a change for him to admit part of the blame. I think he's missed our little Eitan. And Qui-Gon's tenderness with Eitan is so touching, of course Xani doesn't like it ;) Glad the two are back together again [face_love]

Ahh, the price of friendship. You can?t always get a perfect one but they do usually get over problems quickly. Eitan is getting a maturing glimpse of his place with his friend. Time can change everyone, not always for the better.

Xan needs someone to talk to (or should I say brag) and it looks like Eitan is it. [face_mischief] Poor kid. :p They do only have each other. I like Xan feeling threatened by the kindness Qui-Gon shows to Eitan. I don?t think Xan knows how to share very well. :D

Xan is really starting to show his true colors to Eitan.
Eitan is really going to need Master Majid's guidance I think because Xan is already looking to be a master manipulator.

My goodness, Eitan started brawling at an early age. :p Nice to see what I know of him in his younger self.
