    ...this was released:

I still get goosebumps from this, just like I did when I watched it during a matinee of "Enemy of the State" (which I didn't see, because I left after the TPM trailer).

It kind of gives away a lot of the movie, including the podrace and Maul's double-bladed lightsaber.

Jar Jar is in it for less than 5 seconds and still manages to be an annoying sack of crap.

The trailer looked amazing at most due but the actual film was disappointing to me. I hope it isn't the same for TFA.

Wow.... I can practically feel the wind of the past carrying the scent of what was to come. In a sense, nostalgia for a time when I was incapable of preserving memories. It almost makes me see sort of a dim light, if that makes any sense.
Maybe I'm just tripping on SW again, but I do sometimes have these odd feelings, blissful as they may be

In 1998, to watch TPM trailer, I bought a ticket to watch Robin Williams' Patch Adams. While Patch Adams is not that good a film, it still holds sentimental value for me.
1998-99 were great times. I look back and think the world was a better place then [face_love] =((

    It's still a gob-smacking trailer.

Probably the best movie trailer ever produced.

    IMO, anyway.

    I always thought it looked....ok.

I preferred the AOTC trailers more though. And I even think the ROTS trailer was better than the TPM one.

I remember downloading this over 56k modem, waiting for I think over two hours for the whole thing to load... but I couldn't wait, so I would watch it as it loaded little by little via Quicktime. Trailer blew my 18 year old mind. This was coming off the high of having Star Wars Special Editions in theaters. Those were the days. Phantom Menace 4 ever.

I remember taking my daughter to see some kids movie (can't remember what it was) and this trailer was attached to it. To say it caught me by surprise is not doing it justice. I knew a new Star Wars was coming out, but, I wasn't following any of the news about it at all. So when this trailer was over, I can honestly say I sat there with tears in my eyes.

Didn't see it in the theaters because I didn't live in the US at the time. But I remember being excited about AOTC trailers (and Lord of the Rings, too).

I take it you weren't as disappointed as some others?

A friend of mine was also caught by surprise but feared it would be a silly Disney movie (ironic in retrospect). Then he saw it and ended it liking it quite a bit (but not the other prequels for some reason).

I never thought this trailer would be beat, but then that five minute trailer for Cloud Atlas came along. That thing was like a whole film experience in itself.

But yes, I'll never forget that first look at TPM. I'm not sure what I expected Episode I to look like, but the colors, the gorgeous locations, the intricate costumes, beautiful ships...the rules of Star Wars were being rewritten as I watched that for the first time. Fun time to be a fan.

Yeah, Phantom Menace just blew the doors off of what Star Wars could be. I never imagined that before Luke's time this incredible universe existed the way Lucas imagined it. It was like watching The Wizard of Oz for the first time all over again.

Sand planet with ship graveyard on it.
Space battles on the snow and tree planets.
Lightsaber battle on a snow planet.
Also the new weapon of a stormtrooper.
    So much to look forward.

There're some new things but locations don't look fresh. Not on the level of Naboo and Coruscant, for sure.

I'd rather see what they do on the planets than just the locales. Ship graveyard. Interesting new take.
Battles we haven't seen on said planets too.
Fresh? That feels pretty shallow imo.
But to each their own I guess. I'd rather see what they do on the planet.

That trailer made my friends and me think that TPM would be the greatest movie of all time. We were naïve 20-somethings at the end of one cinematic era and the start of a new one.
